Welcome! Please take a few minutes to read the following rules. You cannot probably play the game all by yourself.
First of all, the game has yet to have a title. You can propose a title if you like.:) After reading the rules, click on the link at the bottom to acquire the playtest cards (version 3). Thanks again!
This game (I'll call it "Hoarders" for now) is good for three to four players. You can experiment with other numbers of players, although two would be quite imbalanced, and anything more than six would be too much (based on the number of cards).
Aside from the demo cards (which you have to print out yourself) that compose the Draw deck, you also need counters to mark Yellow, Blue and Red tokens. About 30 pieces for each color is okay. Naturally, you will need to play on a flat surface.
Each player is given a Goal card which he/she attempts to fulfill. Each player's Goal card is a secret -- only the owner may naturally know what it says (some card abilities may allow other players to know your goal!). There are three different goals, each requiring 20 tokens of a specific color. Through Hoarders, which are cards that allow players to collect colored tokens, a player attempts to complete his Goal before other players do. The player may also wish to hinder his/her opponents' way to victory, by trying to discover their goals and playing cards against them.
Only one player can win each game.
Have a print-out of the playtest cards. Cut through the lines to turn each page into eight cards. There are 72 cards in all. The extra sheet of cards is for making your own cards, if you want to have it your way.
Separate the Goal cards from the other cards. There are 12 Goal cards, labelled "Goal A" "Goal B" and "Goal C". Shuffle the Goal cards and randomly give each player one. After the owner sees and understands it, he/she puts it face down if front of him/her. Anyway, he/she may look at it anytime. Remember, only the owner can know what his/her Goal card is, except when a card explicitly allows other players to discover it. Remaining Goal cards are then combined with the other cards and shuffled thoroughly.
Randomly deal seven cards from the shuffled Draw pile to each player. This comprises their starting Hand. Only the owner can see the cards in his hand, but other players may know the number of cards in any other player's hand.
Set the remaining cards of the draw pile in the center of the table, face down. Set a Discard pile beside it. All discarded cards from any player's hand and cards removed from play go here face up. Set the tokens beside it. It is currently uncontrolled.
Determine who goes first. Rolling the lowest in a die is okay, but you can find other means. The player who rolled the lowest starts, and turns move to the left (clockwise).
Example: Albert, Bart, and Carlo have printed the playtest version of Hoarders and are ready to play. They've collected 30 yellow tokens, 30 blue tokens, and 30 red tokens. Albert separates the 12 Goal cards, shuffles them, and dealt one Goal to each player. Carlo received Goal C, Bart received Goal B, and Albert received Goal A. Each of them places his goal card face down on the table. Albert takes the other cards and shuffles the rest of the undealt Goals with it. This becomes their draw deck. After shuffling, he dealt seven cards to each player for their starting hand, and then set the draw pile in the middle of a table. Now they're set.
Each player's turn consists of a number of phases. Please pay attention to the sequence because this must be followed in order.
---------------------------------------
In case you feel that it is too random, you may use this variant instead. In setting up, separate all hoarders too. Shuffle the hoarders and remove 1(for 3 players) card at random. Put it with the other cards. For 4 players, remove 2.
This is a rolling draft. Reveal the top cards of the Hoarder pack equal to the number of players. Choose someone to start picking. Each player takes one hoarder, going clockwise, until no more hoarders are revealed. After this, repeat the process, except the person on the starting player's left becomes the new starting player. When all the hoarders are dealt, the game begins.
The hoarders picked by the players are not yet in play. It is placed in a "holding" area and are played liked hoarders from their hands. So, only one hoarder is played per turn. However, the holding area is NOT part of the players' hands. Players are dealt with five cards for their hands now (the maximum hand size for this variant). The players may not use the hoarders in their holding area to discard, except to use the Leprechaun's ability (this is the only exception to this rule). All removed hoarders from play still go to the discard pile, and gets reshuffled if the draw pile is exhausted.
Click HERE to get a copy of the Cards(currently version 3! I added colors even if it just a demo set to distinguish that these colored cards are permanent). You'll need these to play the game =).
