This album is
cool!
I expected to like it. What I hadn't expected was that it would be one of my all time favorite albums. The music is solid throughout and the lyrics... Fukuyama-san tackles such topics as love, separation, depression, war, and hope with great skill. All the lyrics were written by Fukuyama-san's wife, Kyoko-san. All the music was written by Fukuyama-san. He's joined on "Fuyu" by the other members of the Fukuyama Yoshiki Band. However, on the rest of the album, all the instruments but drum (Shoichiro Aso-san) are performed by Fukuyama-san himself. This album is an awesome showcase of Fukuyama-san's performing skill. |

1. RED DATA FRIENDS |
Fukuyama-san's second solo album is fun! I don't mean fun, as in the songs are funny type fun, but rather it is fun in a creative sense. On this album, he plays more with the rhythms and dynamics, giving the album a more progressive rock feel that I really like. Although Fukuyama-san himself does most of the vocals and instruments, except for drums which are again done by Shoichiro Aso-san, he is joined by a few friends on these songs: Tetsuro Morita: Bass 4, 5 Songwriting Credits: |

This is a Macross 7
tribute album, but it also has the distinction of being the
debut Fukuyama Yoshiki Band album. 10 years after Macross 7, Yoshiki Fukuyama still sounds wonderful singing the songs! If you come expecting to hear all your favorites as you remember them, you won't be disappointed. If you would prefer it wasn't just a rehash of all the old Fire Bomber CDs, you won't be disappointed either. These are all newly arranged versions that treat the songs with the respect they deserve. By the way, the one new song on the album, "Like a Fire" is fantastic! The newer version of the old Fire Bomber and Humming Bird (#4, 6,10) songs are great, but even if they weren't, this album would be worth buying for "Like A Fire" alone! Check it out! |

Excellent album! This one goes right up there with Humming Bird's "Timeless"! There's something for everyone on this album. The songs are an interesting mix of hard rock, soft ballads and... spaghetti western?!? "Akai Hanabira" sounds like something straight out of an old western movie. I know it's a strange thing to have on an album by a Japanese rock singer, but, hey, it works! The song showcases Fukuyama-san's vocal and guitar (and whistling) talent very well! So does the rest of the album. I highly recommend it! |

Most of this album is composed of songs that are close to Fukuyama-san in some way, and it is reflected in the warmth and feeling of the lyrics. The music is varied and timeless, showcasing his expansive range of vocal and instrumental ability well. This is quickly becoming one of my all time favorite albums! |

1. VICTORY |
JAM Project's 3rd greatest hits album. Unlike the last album, all the songs on this album were recorded after Okui-san and Fukuyama-san joined the group. This one is even better than the second. The sound of JAM Project was definitely affected by the member additions, despite the fact that the main songwriter is still Kageyama-san. Perhaps, it is because he is changing his writing to work with the styles of the newer members. I don't know... but I like it! A real gem on this album is the original song, "Cry for the Earth". It's a totally different sound for the group, somewhere halfway between Evanescence and Linkin Park. In the hands of JAM Project, the sound is near perfection! I would recommend this album to both fans and people getting their first taste of the group. Very well done! |

This is the video release of JAM Project's 4th Live on October 16, 2004. If possible, this concert was even more energetic than the last one on DVD! The way they bounce around the stage, it's sometimes easy to forget that even the youngest members of the group are in their late 30s. They looked and sounded great! The DVD contains a two hour concert + an "interview / making of" video and profiles of the group. The profiles this time contain hand written messages from each member. My only criticism of this DVD: no lyric subtitles this time. Even without the subtitles, this DVD is well worth the 5,800 yen! note: Please, be aware that this is a Japanese (region 2) DVD. You may require special equipment to play it. |

A good collection of songs - I liked JAM-ISM better, but this album is at least as good as the other JAM Project albums. The one "original song" on the album, "Garimpeiro", doesn't really grab me much yet, but like "Olympia" on the previous album, it may yet grow on me to become one of my favorites... we'll see. ^-^ So far, my personal favorite on the album is "STORMBRINGER". My oldest daughter's favorite is "Fight to the End ~seisen~". |

01. Overture 2007 extras include: country-wide tour off shot, Ricardo's diary, Skill versions, Member profiles |
JAM Project's Winter tour filmed January 21, 2007 in Tokyo With well over two hours of concert footage, this DVD is the best yet. They keep getting better and better with each release! They went acoustic for a couple songs again - this time it was "Voyager" and "Cry for the Earth". They always have fun with "Voyager" , and this time was no exception, with Fukuyama-san leading the charge as they play around with the audience. I always thought the best version of "Cry for the Earth" was the full band hard rock version - until I saw them perform it accoustic. The accoustic version had a melocholy about it that I found to be very beautiful and fitting to go with the song's lyrics. My favorite JAM Project song performed my favorite way... I think I've watched that segment at least 50 times already! Part-time JAM Project member, Ricardo Cruz from Brazil, was able to get his visa this time and was joined them for the last few songs of the show this tour. Ricardo's diary is a fun behind-the-scenes movie showing the tour from Ricardo's point of view. There's a bit more English on this DVDs than the others. While it's the first language of none of the people involved, it seems to be the "foreign" language that everyone seems to know. Including Ricardo's diary and the
behind-the-scenes footage from each city (and not including the various
"Skill" extended endings) there is a good hour and a half of
candid fun on the extras DVD. Lots of fun! |

6th Best Album Get Over The Border |
LACA-5795 Lantis |
8/6/2008 |
01. Get Over the Border |
This CD seems to mark a change in direction
for JAM Project. Usually on their best albums, there's one or two original
songs created for the CD. This time, over half the songs are original
songs created for and by the members of the group! Some of their best
songs (Cry for the Earth, No Border, etc) are created when they aren't
having to write to the needs of an anime, and the original songs on this
album hold true to that pattern! One song, "BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE", is an "acoustic corner" song entirely written and arranged by Yoshiki Fukuyama. It has a catchy tune that makes for a great sing-along song. "Tsubasa", which was composed by Fukuyama-san with lyrics by Okui-san, is a beautiful tune that is sung nearly acapella - accompanied only by strings. The song that sticks in my head most after hearing the album though is the title song "Get Over the Border". Very catchy. |

2-DVD set: Concert disc + extras disc.
The concert was filmed March 2, 2008 at NHK Hall in Tokyo. This was the concert that Fukuyama-san broke his collar bone during, but they handled the situation so well that if you didn't know something had happened during the concert, you wouldn't know... unless you happen to accidentally hit pause at just the right moment as they are coming on the stage for the second encore. I did. The fall is there. Each year I buy JAM Project's live DVDs, and each DVD I like even better than the last. This one is no different! It seems the more the members are together, the tighter their harmonies and more coordinated their performances become. I especially liked the dancing while they sang "No Border"... and on the extra's disc, watching Fukuyama-san's reaction when he learned they were going to be dancing! Yoshiki Fukuyama is a man of many talents, but apparently - until now - dancing was not one of them... I could go on and devote a whole page to this DVD, but better you just buy the DVD and see for yourself. ^-^b note: Please, be aware that this is a Japanese (region 2) DVD. had at least as much fun watching this DVD as they obviously had making

Between the concert disc and the extras disc there is roughly four hours of entertaining material - and both discs have the option of regular audio or audio with commentary. Yes, they even comment on their interviews! I haven't listened to all the commentary yet (I just received the DVD yesterday) but what I heard was pretty interesting. The concert had a mixture of Macross 7 material and original songs... and Nekokoshan. Nekokoshan is... well, you'll just have to

This
2-CD set is Wild Vox's first album. It's divided into the "Wind
Side" (acoustic) and the "Wild Side" (electric). Both sides
have an underground folk and indie music feel to them. My favorites from
this set: "Haru ga Ippai (SPRING IS NEARLY HERE)", "I'm
Free", "Meguri Ai (Feeling Love Going Home)", and the very
pleasant surprise, "Oki na Furu Tokei", which turned out to be a
Japanese version of a personal family favorite, "My Grandfather's
Clock".
Ushijima-san sings lead for the larger number of songs. Personally, I think it should be the other way around since Fukuyama-san clearly has the stronger voice. Still, it's a good album that I'm glad to add to my collection. BTW, the CD cover is incredible! It opens out to about 6 feet long! You've got to see it to believe it! Also included is a small promotional poster advertising the album, the May 25th concert, etc. For oversees orders (outside Japan), Aqua Entertainment asks that you inquire directly by phone |

The album was well worth the effort to find. I love it! It's a little different than the others with more of a basic folk-rock feel. There are a couple of driving rock songs, most notably "haruka naru umi e", but even those have a bit of a folk concert feel. I'd list my favorites, but I can't think of a song off this album I don't absolutely love! If you can find this album, buy it! You won't regret it! |

This album was recorded
live at Conisis's EGM Studios. Since it was released on an indie
label, it is extremely difficult to find. I've been told that even
Fukuyama-san doesn't have a copy, but I keep looking!
I did get a chance to hear some of the songs from it. Normally, I don't care much for live albums. The sound quality is often inferior and many performers are inclined to try to turn every song into a Broadway production, or worse, let the audience sing half the album. However, Humming Bird figured out how to do live albums right! This album, like Happy Birthday Live Side, has rich sound and good tight arrangements. I wish I could have seen them in concert! |

This CD is a collection of favorites from Humming Bird and Timeless. My favorite off this album is "Hoshi no Tegami" (Star's Letter) That voice! This song really shows how good Fukuyama-san can be! Also on the album is Furuya-san's absolutely beautiful song, "ima wo ikiru hito he". Hearing this album just heightened my resolve to find Timeless, so I could hear the rest of it! |

The first album released after Macross7 came out. Macross7 fans will recognize a few of the songs. "Miracle Sky" is cute - I can just imagine it as an animation. "Oh Yeah!" is proof that love and driving guitar riffs can mix - quite nicely, in fact! |

This is a little edgier rock album and the last album of original music Humming Bird released. Macross7 fans will probably recognize "Dynamite Explosion" and like this version even better. "To Heart" will stay with you for hours after you've heard it. "Sakanatsuri no Uta" (Fishing Song) is a fun song featuring Fukuyama-san trading off guitar riffs with none other than Peter Frampton! Another very good album. |

Happy Birthday is a 2-CD set, timed to come out about the same time as the band's final concert. Disc 1, Best Side, is a collection of greatest hits from the Victor years - including "Hikari naki yoru wo yuke" which was released on a single but not on any of the previous albums. Disc 2, Live Side, is a montage of songs taken from concerts 1996-2000. I normally don't like live albums, but I love this one! As a friend said, "They plugged into the sound system right." The sound is rich, and except for "Sakanatsuri no Uta" which is meant to be an audience participation song, the songs are sung fully by the band (a pet peeve of mine on many live albums). For someone who is just starting out with Humming Bird music, this collection is an excellent place to begin. |

Imagine
Basara Nekki singing the original Macross theme or Lynn Minmay Singing
"Angel Voice". That's what you have here. Eight of the
vocalists from the Macross series doing one song each from one of the
series, but not their own. It sounds interesting! Singers include Mari Iijima, Yoshiki Fukuyama,
Tomo Sakarai, Hiroko Kasahara, and others.
I really like the album! All the songs are good but my favorite is Fukuyama-san's "Macross" rendition. Mari Iijima also does an extremely good job with "Angel Voice". This is a wonderful tribute to the Macross series. |

This one isn't
actually a CD. It's a 4 song clear vinyl EP record. Since this one
was an independent label college band release, there were only a limited
number made.
This is a very cool record, full of fun and energy! This is one college band with a lot of talent! Fukuyama-san doesn't sing lead on the songs, but you can hear his voice a bit in the harmonies. You can definitely hear the guitar, showing that even back in college he was very skilled, as were the other band members! It's worth the effort to find, if you can. Check out Baltan's Music Paradise to learn more about this band and its music! By the way, Baltan-san was the drummer. |

soundtrack album. The album is produced and most of the songs written by
Rui Nagai. Apparently, Nagai-san also like the rock group, Queen.
Most of the CD has a definite Queen flavor to it, except one song that
sounds more like the Beatles. (smile) I bought this CD for one song, but
the rest of the album is also very good. It was well worth the price.
As for the one song, it's Fukuyama-san's "Make My Day" - probably the most Queen like song on the album! The song, written by Nagai-san, features Fukuyama-san doing main vocals with Fukuyama-san and Nagai-san together for background vocals. It's really cool! You've got to hear it! "King Gainer - Over!" is sung by Yoshiki Fukuyama. "Can you feel my soul" is sung by a group called Himistu Gakudan Maboroshi. Both are good songs... an insert song that he wrote and composed himself - in English!
Actually, several of the songs on the soundtrack are written with
English words... but Fukuyama-san actually managed to compose comprehensible
English lyrics. I'm impressed! The song, "Always", has a sort of haunting sound, reminiscent of the harmonies in the Beatle's song "Because". I really like it! By the way, former Humming Bird member (and current Fukuyama Yoshiki Band member, etc.), Shoichiro Aso, can also be heard drumming in a couple of the other songs on this album. |
