Why I Stayed
Elanor Gamgee

A year ago I spent a lot of time on HP for Grownups. And I remember that a bunch of people from that list were getting together to meet in person, and I was so jealous. So last January I sent out a message asking if anyone on that list lived in my area, and Zsenya responded to say that she did, and that she and B Bennett were getting together that very weekend and did I want to join them? I hadn't really spent much time on SQ at that point, not because I didn't like it, but because defending the Good Ship R/H over on HP4GU took up so much time. But then I got to meet Zsenya and B in person, and they were awesome (That was the very first SQ Summit, with many more to follow.) Zsenya and I came to find out that, not only did we live 30 minutes away from each other, but we actually grew up within a mile of each other, went to the same graduate school (I started the semester after she left) and that my husband had actually been to her her parent's old house! But we met over the internet. Just weird. Anyway, I was immediately glad to be part of the SQ family. Zsenya and Arabella work so incredibly hard to keep up this site's good name, and they do a remarkable job of sticking to the high standards they have set. I was so honored when they asked me to be a Professor, and becoming friends with the SQ gals has been one of the best things in my life. I've only known them for a year, but I feel like they understand me better than some people I have known my whole life. And I have seen, again and again, how SQ is an important part of so many people's lives. Congratulations, and thank you, Zsenya and Arabella, for creating something so beautiful and wonderful and touching so many people.
