KRAAL OF EMPOWERMENT

find nourishment for the soul, fuel for the fire, and a passion for life

This is the main page of the web ring Kraal of Empowerment.  If you are so inspired to voice positive nourishment for the soul, then this ring is for you.  The purpose is to create a community of pages and web sites that offer means for empowerment.  This ring is not purely for and about Black women.  It is about empowerment of humanity on all levels.

We are warriors in this life, fighting everyday to survive.  This fight is not energy depleting or one that draws blood.  It is an activism that reveals a life force - a determination to live a life unique to our own understandings and those of the communities in which we reside or represent.  Warrior-activism is an organic quest, a journey through which those dedicated to cause of empowerment undergo.  There have been many warrior-activist - Queen Nzinga, Sojourner Truth, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, bell hooks, Audre Lorde, Susan L. Taylor, Angela Davis and many other strong Black women not unlike you and me.

As evidenced on this page, first we must learn to celebrate our power, understand its reality as a uniquely divine force.  Self-definition and self-valuation are integral to this celebration of our divine spirit.. Black women have been marginalized, if not all together silenced within American society. And it is critical that we define ourselves, name ourselves, and speak for ourselves, instead of being defined and spoken for by others  Second in celebration of this new spirit we must end our silence.  Self-valuation is what makes this possible and it represents the substance of this new self.  Something tangible or visible must emerge as a result of this newly formed authentic Black self.  Write, speak, and act, each of these is an end to silence.  Action is perhaps the most powerful of all and it is the fundamental aspect to warrior-activism.

Love yourself as  a beautiful and necessary light that was created by the God.  Remember that the Highest Power is alive within  you.  It is  alive as you.  You are human and divine.  As is true of the universe, nothing about you is haphazard or accidental.  Know that the channels for your existence were put into place in the very beginning.  You were created on purpose, with a purpose.  You are exactly who and where you need to be, with all the power you need to take your next steps forward.  Accept yourself as you are, and make any changes in your life based on your discoveries of what is best for you, what nourishes you and celebrates God through you.  Lift up your faith in yourself and in the miracle that is your being.  you never doubt that tomorrow the sun will rise.  Have faith that you, too, are an important part of creation.  You, too, are protected by love.  Don't put your faith in transitory things:  They are here today and gone tomorrow.

In The Spirit:  The Inspirational Writings of Susan L. Taylor

Mask of the Organic

In becoming forcibly and essentially aware of my mortality, and of what I wished and wanted for my life, however short it might be, priorities and omissions became strongly etched in a merciless light, and what I most regretted where my silences.  Of what had I ever been afraid?  To question or to speak as I believed could have meant pain, or death.  But we all hurt in so many different ways, all the time, and pain will either change or end.  Death, on the other hand, is the final silence.  And that might be coming quickly, now, without regard for whether I had ever spoken what needed to be said, or had only betrayed myself into small silences, while I planned someday to speak, or waited for someone else's words.  And I began to recognize a source of power within myself that comes from the knowledge that while it is most desirable not to be afraid, learning to put fear into perspective gave me great strength.

I was going to die, if not sooner than later, whether or not I had ever spoken myself.  My silences had not protected me  You silence will not protect you.  But for every real word spoken, for every attempt I had ever made to speak those truths for which I am still seeking, I had made contact with other women while we examined the words to fit a world in which we all believed, bridging our differences.  And it was the concern and caring of all those women which gave me strength and enabled me to scrutinize the essentials of my living.
