CAVE IN DEPTH "Demo 1994-1999" CD - This is a well compiled demo taken from their previous works. This demo-CD sums up what Cave in Depth is all about and the big metallic influence. Actually I mentioned to Saiko that I do listen to bands considered as non-metal but because of the dark associations, they are like part of the metal scene (like Arcana, Elend, Mortiss etc.), but Cave In Depth totally differs from those styles. GRIMOIRES OF THE EXALTED DEEDS PRESENTS LEGION OF THE SCROLL #13 Comp. CD - 16 music but not all of them are metal or music for that matter. The truth is, the other trax will just pisses you off or just make you really fuckin crazy! You will definitely like the trax by Mercyful Fate, Nightfall, Tristitia, Arghoslent, Diabolical, Esoteric & Immortal Intent. The radio stuff will make you grin or laugh. But the other stuff which are like comical or toon music that are purposely made to piss people off. The CD indicates if you give Grimoire $150, you can get a spot in the comp. & a 100 cd copy for you. It's cool but they should strictly be for metal or extreme music, not extremely fucked-up who has the money!!! So learn to program your CD players when you get this. The True Ideal Realized Through the Underground pt.2 - An all Japanese Comp. CD with 10bands. You'll be amazed with what each band has to offer. Brutal Grinding Death Attack by Decapitation, Mortalized, Evol, HydroPhobia, Baked Bomb, Death & Doomy by StillBirth, Black by Sacred Blood, Dark Fantasy by Cave in Depth. Death/Black by Basilisk & Brutal Death w/ Alien influence by Cryptic Revelation. This are all brutalized Japanese musick for you!!! OBSCENITY "Human Barbecue" CD - This tastes good with some beer(mmmm) Brutal Death, or Grinding Death or Death Gore, okay Brutal Death with catchy grinding parts & some gore lyrics. Well not your "I gonna cut you up with something" type but well written (did I understand every growling vox? lyrics are included!). Actually you will find that some titles does not particularly hold the meaning of the song. Humans Barbecue is not putting human flesh in sticks atop a burning coal, or Eternal Life is not an spiritual immortality. You'll find out all about it & how they set it into a brutal musick. The CD I got has 99 tracks but the truth is it has only 8, most are spaces & some German words (which made me laugh really!!) but the last is a real song, a bonus track?. SLUDGE! "Behavior Modification Theory" - 9 song CD. I do listen to punk/hardcore but the last few years It seems to me those music has mellowed down, I hate fucking mellow!!! So I'm glad Dave sent me their CD 'coz I don't really check out new HC bands today. Yup, this is Hard(er)Core w/ Big Metal overtones but not really Crossover sounding. It's a great listen with the shouting vox I missed from those hatecores + other vocal experimentations to add more insanity to the expressions. UNSILENCE "Transfiguration" - Self released 3 song MCD. This band came out from the ashes of "Burial" (Their music is featured in Issue#1/Path of the Serpent compilation.) The title does say everything in comparison to Burial. The band has truly transfigured itself. Now with a more Doomy & Emotional touch. I'm amazed at the magnificence of the music & deepness of the lyrics but the Vocals is really not appropriate. Andrew Hodson can't seem to express the same feeling the music has. He seems to be in the same emotional feeling throughout, but the music is more than that. Not because they have thrown out the whole growl/demonic vocals, this could have been a real awesome music for me if the vocals were properly "Transfigured"!!! CAUSTIC "Rebirth of Procreation" - 8 song CD including an Intro & Outro. This brutal grinding-death that has some catchy parts & great vocalization. But the music is a bit redundant , so when you're half way through the CD you'll probably notice it. Bit & pieces sounds the same. They managed to put a film sampling which I'm very much into. The track that stand out for me is the 7th "Dissectioned Before Born" 'coz maybe it the most different. The outro is cool though.Get this from JackHamer Music!!!!

OCCULTUS/ESGAROTH "Dark Passion/Kingdoms of a Darker Side" split CD - Occultus is from Colombia & Esgaroth is from Greece & they are united as one by Fernando of Semphiternal (USA). Both bands are into the Symphonic Occultic side of Black Metal yet the music really differs so you'll know which band is which. Occultus has 3 songs & Esgaroth has 4 (both has intro included). The bands have the power of black & can summon the Dark in their own way with Scynth, Vocal improvisations & hymns.

CEREBRAL TURBULENCY "Forces Closing Down" - 26 track CD, that's many right, yeah 'coz this is GRIND!!! This show of grinding style, just straight forward blast beats to great hc/crust influenced, plus some sampling within the songs. Vocals has many forms too, from that really low to medium & HC shouting. They also did covers of Agathocles, Anal Cunt & Brutal Truth. Oh yeah, Bio is featured here so please get contact from there.

BEAST PETRIFY "Dimensionally Deranged Dilemma" - 9 track CD released by Sonic Wave Int. (Singapore). This is the latest from this Singaporean Duo. And this is my first to really find such Death Thrash infused with emotionally charged guitar works. The vocals has multiple faces too. This is masterfully mixed 'coz the two would record other instruments first. Fuck!!! This is a different touch in thrash. Some say's brutalized power speed metal! DEW OF NOTHING "Doubleueird" - 10 track CD including intro & outro. This guys from mexico has truelly unified their skill to make their style. This is Death Metal with great Diabolical vocals plus more musical improvisations. They can make parts of their music oriental sounding, sometimes darker & atmospheric. AGATHOCLES "Humarrogance" - 20 mince-core tracks! This is the Japanese version, No! They did not sing in Japanese! This is from Lard Rec. (now JACKHAMMER) licensed from Morbid Rec. The music is from 1997. You can never really get what this guys are singing about so you'll be glad that lyrics are included. And all true grind heads do know the brutality of the music equals the essence the lyrics and you will say, what the fuck! Just mosh & bang your heads!!! Get this from JACKHAMMER Music.

GORE BEYOND NECROPSY "Go! Filth Go!!!" - 58 tracks of grind attack (Including 7 intros & 1 utro). This is actually a re-release now in CD format. These are recordings from 1997 & Akinob actually sent me a copy of this in cassette way back in 1998(? I think). This is Grind Noise & they prefer to call it Analdrilling Harshit Core & I don't know why they adore shit (the cover is pile of shit, humanshit, dogshit or whatever they could find!?) This is already too much noisy for others but actually this is a bit slower & less chaotic than their "Noise-A-Go Go!!!" release. This is a joined offering of Harshit Records & INFERNAL Records. So contact either one!!! Or both!!!

G.B.N. "Noise-A-Go Go!!!" - CD 59 Analdrilling tracks (including 5 intros & 1 outro). And you might say another harsh attack! You're damn right. This is harsher & faster but actually this was released earlier than "Go! Filth Go!!!" . It seems to me those intros are G.B.N. trademarks now. It's sick & funny, nobody else seems to be doing it ('coz it's not those horror flick stuff I tell you!) & I really don't know where the hell did they get it! This was released thru Relapse (have you read my zine review yet? Yup, same Relapse!) but also available thru Harshit Records, so go Direct to G.B.N./Harshit!!!

G.B.N. "Sounds Like Shit" - 7" ep. This is really the newest shit so far from G.B.N. & they made shit synonymous to their band's name & actually giving it a new great meaning. Still another picture of a man moving his bowels!!! This one has 2 intros & no outro? And this crazy grinders has put 7 tracks on "Side Arsehole" & 8 tracks on "Side Butthole" & you should probably follow the note on the sleeve "Play Fuckin' Loud", & you can get this Raw Filthy Harshitiest Grind from G.B.N & Blurred Records.

G.B.N./MINCH (Pizza Party!) - Split 7", G.B.N. side untitled , both are devastating grind w/ G.B.N.'s 10 tracks including 1 intro in the Sex Pistol inspired(?) track "The Great Cock 'n' Roll Swindle". Minch side has 18 tracks & from the titles you'll get the idea of Pizza Eating Alcoholic Drinkers!!! The music is great but I don't really pair pizza & beer 'coz I'll just puke it out. Oh I guess the track "Oh Fuck! He's Puking" is for me!!! So what do you get when you mix Puke w/ Shit? This noisy grind attack!!! Get it from Mink Records.

WARSORE "Nothing But Enemies"/ G.B.N - 7" split & this is another grind offering. Warsore is your crust influenced flesh cutting grinders from Australia w/ additional sound samplings & of course your harshit grinders from Japan G.B.N. The sides are 5/10 tracks respectively but not really. I mean Warsore side has 1 track by G.B.N. & G.B.N.'s side has 2 tracks by Warsore, so it's actually 6/9 respectively. Oh yeah, the loony caricatures of G.B.N. is done by Paul of Warsore. This is from Sterilized Decay Records.

WARSORE "Horrendous Bloody Experiments"/NEE - 7" split in a great yellow translucent vinyl. Warsore has 6 tracks of crusty obliterating raw grind + some samplings as intro in some tracks. This side will get to spin more 'coz I don't know what the hell Nee is all about!? It could be grind or noise or they're just drugged or something. The sound is not clear w/c seems like a rehearsal & they have no track list at all! I'm a bit pissed but at long listen I kinda laugh 'coz the vocalist sounds like Grover (you know, Sesame Street?) is being poked in the ass! Although they seem to be having fun. Still this is worth the Warsore side. Get it from Mortville Records.

BLACK EYES AGGRESSION (Comp. Tape, Band contacts included.) - An all black metal attack from the land of the rising!!! 9 tracks from 8 bands, The Under, Insanity of Slaughter, Crifotoure Satanarda, Infernal Necromancy, Gorugoth, Hurusoma, Holokaust Winds, Old Serpent. Each band possesses different styles. Like Crifotoure Satanarda's "Medieval Siege" black army war marching out to battle. Hurusoma's "The Shadow" that has an Oriental eerie touch. Infernal Necromancy's "Monotonous Junk Fuck" that started slow with a deranged vox & Old Serpent's "Bloody Sin" which reminds me of Mortiis w/ speed. This is a joint project of Weird Truth Production & Cosmic Garden Promotion. $5(Y500).

GORUGOTH "Ankoku Shinwa" - Side A has 5 tracks including intro & side B has 3 (intro & spells) including outro. That's "Myth of Darkness" in English & this came from the Darkest Bowels of Hell!!! This is a one-man band & after you hear this you'll say it's the Devil himself!!! It has a very dark sound, doomy at some parts & b/m speed is there. But the thing that strikes me is the horror. This is a horrific piece of b.m. Maybe because of the film samplings & a different sound as if everything is coming out from an unknown depth. With 2 vocals of low growls & one a bit high & thin. This is actually a compiled version of previous demos. The tape indicates "Kouzaburou Kazima 1992~97 R.I.P"., but Black Eyes Aggression has a track of Gorugoth w/ 2 members "Kouzaburou & Woods" so I don't know if he's back from the dead!?! CAVE IN DEPTH "The Lurking Fear" (some lyrics included) - 5 tracks. This is Saiko's forlorn fantasy soundscape. Don't get me wrong, this has a big metal in it. Interpreted through the different vocal medium, natural female vocals & a great husky one in "The Lurking Fear" track. This is now a solo project but has a quest vox (Manami Kaneko) in "Nothing Sacred". This is complex mixture of fantasy music & metal. You can get trapped in it!!! SHAKE DEATH'S HAND (Comp. Tape) - I traded this from Nattaphon of Slava Zine. He's distributing some stuff in Thailand. Anyway this is a European comp. With very varied BM styles, symphonic, melancholy, atmospheric but the main style is BM!!!. It's a great unification of darksouls in the bm realm. 11 tracks from 11 bands, Nagelfar, Tortura, Blazing Eternity, Crimson Midwinter, Apolokia, Withering Surface, Bishop of Hexen, Mundanus Imperium, Thule, Black Mist & Poles Apart. NIGHTSKY BEQUEST "Keep The Lonely Tress" (lyrics included) - This is a 1997 release. I traded for this from Anemone (Poisonous Piglet Distro "Oink") & He said "I never thought you have a softer side." Or something like that. Anyway, I don't think this is really soft 'coz it built its heaviness from a different aspect. This is not doom at all. This is about Nature, the Stars, Dreams, The Trees, Sky & Ocean. It's Elemental music & Enchanting metal!! Interpreted in the natural beauty of the female vox. No growly stuff. It has 7 tracks & the last one is soundscaped reproducing the feeling of the Sky meeting the Ocean. You can use this in your self-induced dream exploration. DEADLY DARK "Chaotic Omen" (lyrics included) - Newest release (8 tracks) of this trinity in the persona of Pedro Guevarra(guit/vox), Victor Gutierrez(drums) & Juan Lara(gut/bass). And this is Deadly Metal indeed!!! It's in a purer metal 'coz they attain a natural brutality without trying in infuse other styles or insert extreme grinding just to prove the brutality. It's more into early heavy thrash but they can slow things down at will. This album has a main topic about extra terrestial terror. DEADLY DARK "Slaughter Times" - This is an earlier work (10 tracks) of this deadly trio! This is a bit rawer but has the same thrashy metal power! It has an intro in the 2nd track of side B, you might ask why? This is a combined work from 1993 promo & 1995/96. This has no centralized topic, more on the darker nature of man. No lyrics included. SPIRITUAL IMPURITY "Hellwards" - 8 tracks intro & outro included. This is a one man band (w/ the help of Kawai R-50-the drum machine). This is black metal with a mixture of other evil form, from War in "Battle of Armageddon" to a synth laced cold atmospheric outro "Arctic Shadow" plus a great cover of Beherit's "Black Arts"! This is not a Hyper Blasting Black metal beast but can surely add some impurities to your soul. Markus is interviewed in this issue, you can find out more impure thoughts & how to contact him. UNBORN "Sounds of Agony" - 4 song demo tape. Tom has warned "This is not a Pro-recording & it will be a very raw listen." Well it's filthy fucking RAW alright!!! He even included some of their reviews but I did not even try reading it 'coz it might cloud my judgment. So all I know is, the sounds reproduced by a 20 year old tape deck & 2 really cheap mics is one hell of a Raw Brutal Musick. It gives a feeling of being there in front of them, just listening live. If they can capture such brutality in this way, how much more if they have a good production. Well they're working on it with a new line-up. So for now, I'll stick to this raw release. This can actually be considered as Death Gore 'coz the lyrics are more Gore & Horror influence with out the film sampling. KORIHOR "Innocent Deist" - 4 songs cassette demo, color cover. This is Black Metal from the only Christian Dominated country in Asia, & these guys are not only in for the music!!! The music is unrelenting in all department but not your typical hyperblast d.m. The vocals of Santo is like, as if he's throat has dried up & craves for blood. The only thing I can complain is the production, my copy tends to output the music on one speaker only. Alas! A re-mastered copy! NYARLATHOTEP/GNOME - Split tape 1999. These are 2 one man band, Both gives a 3 tracks of hard to categorize music. They have a distinct style. Nyarlathotep is an Obscure way of Dark Manifestation w/ dual vocalization and this is more straight & lengthy metal than he's previous releases. Gnome is into Forest Dark metal & he can really summon the dark forces of those realm with a really eerie witching vocals. Oh yeah, they are both Japanese. MASTECTOMIA "Subcallosal Area" - This is 7 tracks in a Promo Tape released in Sept. 1999. This is Grinding Death with gruffy low vox but the poor production is getting in the way to fully enjoy it. The band is still new, well being officially created in 1996, they only re-grouped July last year (1999). Still knowing the style they want to create is great. LIMITS OF NESCIENT "Germs of Obsession" - 4 song demo on Pro. Tape ,1998 recording.. This band is a quartet but I don't know why there are only 3 of them in the pic, actually this is included in the tape sleeve. This is a great Death Metal, very good sound. This guys definitely know how to make brutalized metal. The pounding drums, guitar works & guttural vocals sometime being backed-up by another plus other musical add on . CORTEGE "AWARENESS" - 8 song demo tape lyrics included, colored cover. It has a clear sound. They did not really sent any additional info about them. At first look I thought "Christian Metal?" because of the title & the artwork, which seems like a depiction in the bible. The 1st track is a bit too predictable with the vocals & music has the same pattern & the lyrics even though in a parable state seem repetitive. But the rest is a great piece of Death Metal. With decipherable death vocals, great guitar solos between Ambrozy & Schubert, very controlled drumming & a classical influence (was it because of Schubert?). MESS AGE "Fallen" - 5 Song demo tape. Actually this tape comes in the other side of "Dogma" (Featured in this issue) given by Mateusz of Forgotten Chapel Zine. And their bio was given by Anemone of Poisonous Piglet Distro but I fucking misplaced it. Sorry guys! They did get a really cool name, I mean it's a word play, a Message in a Mess-y Age. They have 6 members & play a Thrashy form of Metal, they can slow it down & speed it up, they can really control things in their music with a good husky male vox. Yeah the female vox is out of place. Don't get me wrong, I do love female vox if it's appropriate with music. The female vox here is a bit annoying for me specially when she goes to that same tone through out. DREAMS "The Neverending Wonderin of Dreams" & "Act II-My Heart...The Sea of Scarlet Dreams" - This is their two demos recorded in a single tape given by Artur. The 1st has 4 tracks & 2nd has 5 tracks. This is Masterfully created with a black metallish vocals & an eerie whispering vocals as if carried by wind. Atmosphere is dreamlike or you would prefer Nightmarish!!! Dreams is indeed in Nostalgic Dark Metal realm where they can create their own elements, with nature samplings, scynth & cosmic passages & each release seems like a whole story. SUCCUBUS "Art of Hate"/ CRYPT "Eternally Damned" - Split tape 10 song release (Intro & Outro included) from Succubus & 4 songs from Crypt. This is a mind blowing aggression for both band who plays Brutal Death. Read more on Succubus in this issue. So I give this space for Crypt who plays tight & temperamental death metal. Nice solos & tempo changes. The vocals are really growly & a bit screechy back vox but both are kinda weak. Well because it becomes like a background. It's like everything is loud except the voclas. Maybe it's just the mixing or recording. So I hope they do something about it next time. Oh yeah, Christopher of Succubus also included tracks form Cicatrix but it's a lousy recording. Reviewing it here will just flunk the band. Sorry about that.

WORSHIP "Last Tape before Doomsday" - 4 tracks of pure Doom Death Metal. Slowly enchanting you to your death. Real Sssllllooowwllllyyyy. With a very low growls and sometimes a whisperied vox. This is a technical doom masterpiece for the atmosphere is created mostly by the guitars not like others that have become more theatrical & scynthesized in category. Another plus for this is the French Romanticism you can feel from the lyrical interpretation. DECAPITATED "Of Suffering And Death" - 3 tracks (original is 4 tracks) of Brutal Death Metal. Very tightly done. Has an awesome grinding death parts just great for background music if you're are planning to decapitate someone. Read more about the band in this issue! Contact is in there too. TWISTED TOWER DIRE "The Curse of the Twisted Tower" - This is Promo99 in its 2nd pressing. I'm not really into heavy metal now (& I lost copies of bands I like before), but now am I re-thinking of getting some? All I know is I'll keep the T.T.D. along w/ my brutal music collection!!! This is True Epic Heavy Metal!!!
