Monsters of Rock at Klub Fluids!

Guardian Crucifix	August 29, Klub Fluids, Meralco Ave. cor Julia Vargas, Ortigas Center, Pasig City, Philippines. Whew! The long wait was over! The info about this gig was given to me by Sergio, Guitarist of 'Rage of Iscariot' (formerly ELD interviewed in my Issue#1, Thanks Man!!!). Even though the date falls on an ordinary working day I did not think twice, well maybe because it has been a long time since I went to a gig. I know the gig was to start at 7pm but I have to work till that time (I hate you slave drivers!!!). 1st I went to the mall in that area to buy me a film. I hooked up with Bart (my sis's BF) who is also going to the gig. My sis told me he is in the mall. We arrived in the place at 9pm. Outside, I can hear the music but it took a bit more time to enter. I don't know how many bands have played already. The 1st band that I saw was 'GUARDIAN CRUCIFIX'. It's a good band to start off my night. Death-thrash, and I can't say if they played an original track but I've been told some were covers. Oh before I continue, some bands played Rap or 'New' Metal (as the Americans call them..trendy yankees..) and another a sort of ska metal (?), since UnderWorld don't cover (& don't wanna cover..) those stuff plus limited films, I'd pass off, sorry guys! It's not my cup of tea, I mean it's not my brand of beer, It's not as hard as my liquor, oh well, you get it right???. So I'll fast forward to these guys, 'TOMB' Fuck Yeah! Brutal Grinding Death Metal ala Cannibal Corpse, very tightly executed!!! Guttural Vocals and another sick one too!!! 'BLOODSHED' is another neck crushing experience! Did covers of Sodom & what else...Damn I can't remember now...then came 'RAGE OF ISCARIOT'. I think they are the only Black Metallers in this gig. And Hail to these Dark Souls!!! Christian, the organizer of the gig is actually the Vokills of the band and these guys have summoned the powers of Cradle of Filth & Emperor, BM with keys..but their set was cut short 'coz of keyboard got damaged or something. It was 1:00 am already & I have to travel a long way to go home plus I have to work that morning at 8, but another band is on the set. I was gonna judge the book by it's cover since I thought another 'new' metal band, but wait, fuck! these guys can grind!!! Damn! I really need to go home, gotta run, so I failed to get the bands name, maybe next time....as I re-live the moments in my mind.. mmmmm...it's hard to attend a gig when you want to feature it in your 'zine 'coz you have to shoot pics & go to positions & stuff...it's also hard when you wear glasses 'coz you can't fully bang your head & I don't have those goggles. Over all it's fun & nice to know 'METAL' is not 'rusting' in the Philippines, especially the extreme ones. All the bands you see in the photos have played a Truely Neck Twisting, Head Cracking, Mind Bashing, chaos for the hair Lice sets!!! Oh, for the crowd, I would say a little bit 'reserved'. I hope I would get news that these bands have a demo or in the process of making one. They can expect full support from the UnderWorld!. Some info: 'Rage of Iscariot' have original compositions and agreed on contributing to Alvaro's Philippines Metal compilation project. (Alvaro also makes 'Metal Havoc' Zine, contact him for more info). Incarion's demo 'Blasphemiak' is still available from the band & currently working on new materials for future release. Pathogen from Laguna already released their demo, more info will be given soon. Effluvium's 1st demo still available from the band and their 2nd now released by Thailands 'Maelstrom666' Production. Effluvium (Laguna) & Decapitated (Davao) are included in Maelstrom666's Compilation#2, Contact 'Pithak' for info. Watch out for 'Funeral Frost', now working on their demo but a rehearsal tape is available.
