Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun and neighbor to Earth, has long been the object of centuries of intense curiosity and careful scrutiny by mortal and supernatural alike.

Mars has now been colonized. The year is 2148. The Solar System has been explored but suprises and mysteries still manage to appear. Interstellar probes of exploration have been sent out into the void. We have found no evidence of intelligence beyond our own system.

Mars is mysterious, a planet with roughly the same surface area as Earth and only a tiny fraction of the population. Rumors abound of the mysteries of Mars that lay undiscovered, from secret  bases to ancient alien technology to the aliens themselves.

Along with its intriguing past and wild rumors, the small, rocky planet has some impressive geological features. It boasts the largest volcano in the solar system, Olympus Mons, which stands 25 km (16 miles) high and 624 km (374 miles) wide. A giant canyon, Valles Marineris, stretches a length close to the distance between Los Angeles and New York--4000 km (2500 miles) long and as deep as 7 km (4 miles).
