StarrWolf’s Commentary on The Wayfinder’sUniversal Ways of Beingness

Recently, I was given the task of researching the Wayist philosophy.  In my search, I came across a site written by the Wayfinder.  I read over a piece on rules of the philosophy and began writing my own personal thoughts, opinions and interpretations on these principles.  The following is a rough outline of my thoughts on each principle listed.  It is important to read the original source of the discussion to understand what I am responding to in each section.

1. Love yourself unconditionally

This is basically saying that you are you now.  That won’t change and doesn’t have to.  You have responsibility over yourself, so if you are unhappy, it is up to you to make something of yourself.  For yourself, you are all there is.  You are the only thing you can ever know or change, and all things are possible though you.  Perceive yourself as exactly what you are and not what others have influenced you to be. You are perfect, so believe it.

2. Make a conscious choice to heal and change your life

You can never truly know anyone but you, and you are stuck with yourself for good, so you might as well make yourself everything you can.  You and you alone can make this change in your life.  There is no one out there who can care as much about you as yourself, and no one with as much power over your life than you.

3. Understanding that you are a Divine expression of Godhead

This is sort of like my “Lesser God in Training” theory.  In Wicca, there are creation stories about how the Goddess was without physical presence, so she made the God.  Then wanting to experience physical things herself they created all that is.  They created people, physical manifestations of themselves to experience this world.  There is not a single creation that is without the union.  The spirit is in everything and is for all time.  We are all God and Goddess in physical form sent to enjoy and experience life.  My theory before I even knew about this was that I was more than just a body on earth, but a god myself sent here to study life so that I would better understand it in order to create and govern my creations.  To experience everything so that I could offer my creations all the experiences I was fortunate enough to enjoy.

4. You are the creator of your life

This was mentioned earlier, but deserves more thought.  It is a basic application of Mind Over Matter, which is a pretty common concept.  With the right training you can do anything, but through years of reprogramming, mankind has forgotten and made rules.  Jesus was a great practitioner of magick, because from an early age he was brainwashed to believe in himself.  He was made to have no doubt in his mind that he was capable of wonderful things, and it is this kind of mental training that needs to be developed.  In Wicca, a thought is a thing, so it is important to think good things and watch out for the negative thoughts.  If you think it, you will it, and you create it.  If it is good thoughts you create, it is good luck and positive outcomes you will find.

5. Expand your ability to see all things through love

We are all born good. Remnants of generations passed are handed down in the form of cynicism, pessimism, laws, and old ideals.  Man is the only creature who is not born free, by nature.  No other creature sets up rules that live on when they are gone, and these rules are the reprogramming that prevents us from understanding.  It is the understanding of true freedom and true responsibility for one’s self by which real love and happiness come.  Understanding that the rules of the world you were born into do not have to control your life.  There will always be rules, and you can change them.  You don’t have to feel bad because someone else has more of what these rules say are desirable.  You are the only one that really matters.  Be happy with the things you were blessed to experience, because your experience is unique to you.  If you want more, you can have it.  You are your responsibility and as such responsible for your happiness.

6. Do not criticize or judge yourself or others

Back to the idea of people being the physical manifestations of God and Goddess, all experiences are unique and people have different attitudes because God and Goddess want to have that experience.  If someone is rude to you, it is probably just the result of the things they were chosen to experience.

7. Go within

Again, we see the idea that society can be a bad influence as far as understanding ourselves.  We are not this “society”.  Society is not just what the majority thinks and believes.  It is what is left behind that we don’t understand, so we accept it anyway and pass it on ever generation.  Deep down we know that these things aren’t real or necessary, they’re just left-overs.  Don’t blindly pass on these artifacts of the past we collectively call society.  See what is real and true to you.  If you were all there was and in control of everything, would you be doing what you’re doing now?  No way!  So why do you let those left-over ideals get in your way.  You are in control!  So take charge.  Find out why you’re here.

7. Forgiveness

People we call criminals do things for very simple reasons.  They were not taught in this life to achieve things that would make them happy without conflict with others.  But they realize they can take control of their life, even if the steps they choose to get there aren’t the best for everyone else.  They want something, and they know how to get it.  They are making things happen for themselves.  They want to experience specific things and haven’t learned how yet.  Everyone wants to be happy, some know how, some only have ideas of things that might make them happy.  But they do what they fell they must.  Starting now, we have to find the will and power to create our own happiness within, instead of without.  This is a much better thing to leave behind when we are gone.  And if we pass this on, we allow others the opportunity to understand and not resort to harmful deeds to achieve the things they desire.

8. Have a sense of humor and gratitude

You are the only one with your experiences.  They should be good ones.  Rejoice in your ability to experience everything.  Be happy you can experience pain too, because then you can see more value in the good.  This reminds me of the movie City of Angels.  When the character decides to “fall” and give up his eternity of feeling nothing for the chance to experience a life, he feels pain for the first time and isn’t upset because of it, but happy because he had never felt it before.  Goddess wanted to feel and experience something physical, so she created the God for this to happen.  That is why we are here, and why we are allowed all feelings and emotions and sensations.  They are all good and meaningful. Just think, if everyone you knew had always been nice to you, and you had always been given everything you ever wanted, you would never feel a sense of accomplishment or fulfillment within yourself.  That’s why we get to have people call us names and pick on us early in our experience.  So that we can grow to be happy and understand how great life really can be.  You could say, the worse things start, the better and more surprising the finish.

9. Creating balance

Here’s a big one.  When my grandmother died, I want as upset as everyone else around me.  She had led a good, full life with plenty of experiences.  I was happy for her.  It seemed a very great and satisfying journey through life, and that was all that concerned me.  And in my own life, I got to have her there to add to my experience of what life is.  We benefited each other in life and though my family felt loss, I only felt it was another page turned in my book.  Balance is a very important thing in this way, because for every person sent to experience something good, someone else took the path of pain because it was just another task on the experience agenda that they felt they could manage.  Everyone forgets everything and starts over, and the people who are still feeling pain haven’t learned any other way yet.  But they can control the pain.  Life is their creation.

10. Being the observer

The explanation of this goes into the things we cannot change.  Bad things don’t just happen without some purpose.  It’s not for us to say that someone just had bad luck, maybe they just needed their focus redirected at the moment.  People die to make room, so just hope they got enough from life this time around.  It’s hard to learn to be objective, but subjectivity is based on the idea of misfortune.  What may look like misfortune to the subjective eye, would instead be another step towards a greater purpose.  If we all died of old age, people would put things off all their lives.  But some people get killed or die young, and that reminds everyone that we’re here to experience in our own lives.

11. Speaking your truth

Lies are socially perpetuated.  Remember what I said earlier about society?  This is where it started.  Someone lied, someone else didn’t want to be “different” out of a need to feel accepted and tied to everyone else, and the lie became society.  Society became a set of rules that no one would accept if everyone else hadn’t already fallen for it first.  We are all connected and everyone wants to feel that way.  So instead of saying, “No, that’s not how I feel,” they pass the lie on another generation because they don’t want to be “weird.”  Be careful what lies you tell, because you’re enslaving people who haven’t been born yet.  Say what you really feel.  And if you can’t say nice things, think about why you’d want to say anything otherwise.  There’s no reason to say cruel things, and they are only based on society’s ancient artifacts of mistruths.  Only know that everyone else out there is doing the best they believe they can for now, and the one common tie is a need to feel connected and loved.  That is real and true always.

Okay, that about sums up this commentary and I hope I have not strayed too far from the mark in what I have expressed above.
