Morgan le Fay

-pic-

The fairy sister of King Arthur. She is a principal figure in Celtic legend and Arthurian romance. She is mentioned as the one who told Arthur about Guinevere and Lancelot. She gave him a cup containing a magic draught and he had no sooner drunk it than his eyes were opened to the perfidy of his wife and friend.

In Orlando Furioso, Morgan (Morgana) is represented as living at the bottom of a lake, and dispensing her treasures to whom she liked.

In Orlando Innamorato, she first appears as 'Lady Fortune', but subsequently assumes her witch-like attributes.

In Tasso, she has three daughters: Carvilia, Morganetta, and Nivetta.

Finally, in the romance of Ogier the Dane she receives Ogier in the Isle of Avalon when he is over one hundred years old. She restores his youth, and becomes his bride.

She is known as Morgane, Morganetta, Morgaine, Morgue la Faye, and Morgana (especially in Orlando Furioso).
