Missing Songs

Light Changes - written by A. Summers 1980. This appeared only as a video release from: Police Around The World - Thorn EMI TVE 90 13022, 1983.

De Do Do Do De Da Da Da - (Spanish Version) - written by Sting 1980. Released in many countries on 7" but the main release was in the USA, cat no AM 25000, 1981.

De Do Do Do De Da Da Da - (Japanese Version) - written by Sting 1980. B-side of above single AM25000.

Spirits In The Material World (Remix) - written by Sting 1981. This version with re-recorded vocals and with re-mixed backing track was first played on TV. The Police lip-synched to the track on two shows - Top Of The Pops and The Kenny Everett Show, both in December 81.

Spirits In The Material World (Remix) - written by Sting 1981. Same backing track as the original version but with synthesized vocal. Plus the bass and keyboard arrangements are very evident in this version, along with different drumming arrangements towards the end, with a very early vocal fade out, thus giving the mix a very different sound to the original version. This version actually accompanied the promo video when it was first shown on the BBC "Police In Montserrat" special, but when the promo was included in the 1986 and 1992 compilation video releases it had the original version dubbed over the video clip.

Brimstone 1 - written by Sting 1982. This appeared on the soundtrack album of Brimstone and Treacle - LP AMLH 64915, Cassette CAM 64915, 1982 and was later released on CD in the USA cat no CD 3245. (Note: Even though the track was credited to Sting, The Police actually played the backing track (this is stated on the film credits). Close scrutiny will reveal Stewarts snare and bass drum and most importantly Andy's guitar riff and wah effects pedal.)

Brimstone 2 - written by Sting 1982. LP AMLH 64915, Cassette CAM 64915, 1982 and CD 3245. * As above.

You Know I Had The Strangest Dream - written by Sting 1982. LP AMLH 64915, Cassette CAM 64915, 1982 and CD 3245. * As above.

Wrapped Around Your Finger (Live in Atlanta) - written by Sting 1983. This was featured on the 12" USA promo of Wrapped Around Your Finger, cat no SP-17264.

Brimstone 1 (Film Remix) - written by Sting 1982. This version which is featured at the end of the film, is only available on video AVL 002.

Brimstone 2 (Film Remix) - written by Sting 1982. This version, which is featured at the beginning of the film, has added Police overdubs and rearrangements. Only available on video AVL 002.

You Know I Had The Strangest Dream (Film Remix) - written by Sting 1982. Only available on Video AVL 002.

I Burn For You (Film Remix) - written by Sting 1976. Now this is a strange remix! This track has the added guitar riff from 'You Know I Had The Strangest Dream', but even stranger, at the end of 'I Burn For You' it fades into the chorus of 'You Know I Had The Strangest Dream' but keeps the guitar part of 'I Burn For You' which Andy plays in a totally different chord to the version on the Brimstone & Treacle album! Only available on video AVL 002.

How Stupid Mr Bates (Film Remix) - written by Sting/Summers/Copeland 1982. Only available on video AVL 002.

A Kind Of Loving (Film Remix) - written by Sting/Summers/Copeland 1982. Only available on video AVL 002 1982. (Note: The track 'Only You' did not feature The Police, due to Stewart's roadie Jeff Seitz playing drums on that song).

Truth Hits Everybody (Remix) - written by Sting 1977/78. Also known as the slow version amongst fans, this is possibly the most famous missing track from the box set. This is a live studio recording which took place during the Synchronicity album sessions and was available very briefly as the extra 'live' 7" from the limited edition 7" UK double pack of 'Every Breath You Take' cat no AM 117. (Note: The B side of the 'Truth Hits Everybody' (Remix), which was 'Man In A Suitcase' - live, did actually appear on the Box Set!)

Every Breath You Take (Backing Track) - written by Sting 1983. Released on 7" in Japan without the vocals on cat no AMP 782.

Roxanne (Backing Track) - written by Sting 1977. B-side of the above mentioned single AMP 782.

Can't Stand Losing You (Live) - written by Sting 1978. Available on the compilation album '21 years of Radio 1' (1992). (Note: This version was recorded at the Paris Theatre in 23/6/79).

Don't Stand So Close To Me '86 - written by Sting 1980. Strange as it may seem, it's not actually on the UK box set! In it's place is the Dance Mix of the track, even though the CD gives the right credit. If you buy the US box set you get the original '86 version but not the Dance Mix! The original '86 version was available on the album 'Every Breath You Take - the Singles' LP EVERY1/Cass EVERC1/CD EVECD and is now available on the USA/Canada only release 'Every Breath You Take - the Classics' cat no CD 31454 0380 2.

Don't Stand So Close To Me (Live) - written by Sting 1980. This was the B-side to the last studio track 'Don't Stand So Close To Me '86', 7" AM 354, 12" AMY 354. (Note: The 12" included the Dance Mix which replaced the standard '86 version).
