Helga Hufflepuff, the Founder of the Hufflepuff House, was known as the sweetest of the four, thought not necessarily the most powerful (that would be a toss-up between Gryffindor and Slytherin)
Helga prized the students who were unafraid to work hard to get what they desired. And she also favored fair play, though this resulted in several nasty little squabbles.
She wanted Slytherin and Gryffindor to just get along, somehing neither man wanted to do. They had a fight one day, Slytherin was said to have lost, and supposedly, left the school soon after.
