The Theoret Family
Jacques Triolet dit Lariviere was the first in this line to New France. He came as a Carignan Soldier in the compagnie de La Verrier about 1687. His last name can also be found as Triolet dit Lafleur. He was born in Dinan, France around 1665. On Mar 14, 1701 he married Marie Agnes Jeanne Roy in Lachine, Quebec. She was born on Oct 23, 1664 in Ville Marie, Quebec daughter of Jean Roy and Francoise Bouet. The couple were among the first settlers of Pointe Claire and had at least 5 children. Agnes died on Dec 14, 1717 in Ste Anne de Bellevue and Jacques died July 31, 1728 at Pointe Claire, Quebec.
It is not clear when the name changed from Triolet to Theoret but as with most French names pronunciation was likely the cause. It is also found as Triplet.
Jean Baptiste Theoret was born on March 2, 1707, Lachine, Quebec. He married Marie Marthe Laviolette de Cholet born July 5, 1709, Lachine daughter of Sebastien & Anne Herd dit Prevost. They were married on July 19, 1731, Pointe Claire, Quebec and settled in Pointe Claire where they had at least 6 children. Marie died February 21, 1747 in Pointe Claire leaving young children. Jean Baptiste died July 15, 1787 in Pointe Claire.
Jacques Amable Theoret was born on October 8, 1735 in Pointe Claire and baptised the same day. He married Marie Louise Grandmaison dit Barbari daughter of Michel and Marie Francoise Trepanier born January 27, 1742 in Ste Genevieve, Montreal. The marriage took place November 4, 1760 at Pointe Claire. Jacques and Louise resided and raised their family in Pierrefonds, Quebec. Louise died on October 12, 1765 in Ste Genevieve leaving three small children. Jacques remarried on May 25, 1767, Pointe Claire to Marie Catherine Lefebvre and the couple had 4 more children. Jacques died on September 15, 1806 in Pointe Claire.
Joseph Theoret was born on March 25, 1763, Ste Genevieve, Quebec. He married Marie Josephe Massy the fourth child of Francois and Marie Josephe Cardinal, on January 27, 1784, Ste Genevieve, Quebec. Marie Josephe was born on December 5, 1767, Ste Genevieve, Pierrefonds, Quebec. Joseph died on December 14, 1844.
I have very little information for the years between Joseph's birth 1763 and his grandson Antoine death 1899.
Joseph Theoret married Angelique Paiement and had at least 11 children.
Antoine Theoret was born about 1818 and married Eulalie Poudrette dit Lavigne on July 25, 1846 in Ste. Genevieve, Pierrefonds, Quebec. Eulalie is the daughter of Jacques and Marie Louise Cousineau. Antoine and Eulalie had at least 9 children and moved to Glengarry County where many of their children are found in the local Catholic churches and cemeteries. Antoine died in 1899 and is buried in St. Alexandre Cemetery, Lochiel, Ontario. Eulalie died in 1910 and is also buried in St. Alexandre Cemetery, Lochiel, Ontario.
Salomee Theoret was born July 12, 1854 in I'lle Bizard, Quebec. She married 1st Joseph Belair on September 2, 1867, Ste Marthe-sur-le-Lac, Quebec. They had 7 children in Vaudreuil County, Quebec and moved to Glengarry County, Ontario where many of their children's marriages are found in the Catholic Churches. Salomee married a 2nd time to George Alexandre Sabourin her brother-in-law whom was widowed from her sister Marie Louise. Salomee died on April 6, 1943, place is unknown.
