Name: ShiVani
Age: 2 ½ FaelinTurns
Note: Ever
heard of cat/dog years? If you haven't,
the story is that they age seven years in every one
human year. The 'years' on Faelin, a planet of cat-people, are seven times
the length of a normal Pern Turn.
Family: Parents: Va'ali and Tau'mayn
Soulmate-to-be: Ze'klii
Species: Faeliyiin (fay-LEE-in)

Appearance: Tall (for a female Faeliyiin) at about
5'6", ShiVani's dark, chocolate skin seems to melt into the lighter
amber of her tufted tail. She has wideset, amber eyes above a short nose
and small mouth; her heart-shaped face is framed by a silky, gold-and-black
mane, in which the tips of feline ears are just visible. She prefers loose,
flowing garments that do not hamper her movement, usually in greens and
browns. Her robes are fastened with a silvery chain of stars. One
of the more feline Faelinyi, ShiVani's exotic beauty is quite striking.
The Faelinyi are humanoid, with varying degrees of
feline qualities. All Faelinyi have a thick mane; both mane and skin can
be any shade, from cream to rust to sepia. However, due to Faelin's hot
climate, the darker colors are more prevalent. Some Faelinyi have other
feline characteristics: feline ears, tail, or (rarely) a thick, silky coat.
Clothing also varies; some Faelinyi, especially those with fur, wear nothing,
while others choose light, cool clothing. The Faelinyi society is fairly
free of rules and taboos, and is more relaxed than typical Terran societies.
History: ShiVani is a fairly normal adolescent
Faeliyiin, although she has an unusually strong
love of nature and the feilons (large felines native to the planet). She
eagerly awaits her Binding to Ze'klii, her soulmate-to-be. However,
she is living in a difficult time; a feline plague is sweeping the land,
and because the Faelinyi are closely related to the feilons, it poses a
grave threat to them.
Faelin was first colonized by a group from a nearby
planet, at about 4060 Galactic Time. The Faelinyi, as the settlers called
themselves, were already somewhat feline, and the planet appealed to them
because of its feilon population. Through close association with their
distant feline cousins, the Faelinyi became gradually more cat-like. They
abandoned many of their space-faring ways, but when a new, feline-transmitted
disease struck, they were forced to turn back to space to escape. Unfortunately,
there were few working space-craft, and even less time...
