We are all reasonably well, Rob had a checkup and tests at the Alfred today. The respiratory and renal doctors had a meeting today and they discussed Rob's suitability for a kidney transplant. Rob is on the 'Category 2' waiting list at the moment - as soon as he passes his tests, he goes on the 'category 1' list. I'm sure that you know the drill... Rob has an appointment for an angiogram, to see if his heart can stand up to the whole proceedure. He has an appointment for an ultrasound of his legs, to check the plumbing of the blood vessels they need to attatch the kidney to. Rob will also see a shrink.
His tests today were all good, lung function was up a little, blood tests were unremarkable, etc.

Rob has had a series of X-rays to investigate his painful joints.

THE RESULTS:

The results of the skeletal survey showed 'renal osteodistrophy', which is not an unusual consequence of being on dialysis. There are references to assorted minor soft tissue and ligament calcification, consistent with chronic renal disease and hyperparathyroidism. Rob will take the report to the Alfred when he has his checkup next Wednesday. (2nd of May) I will put the whole 'conclusion' of the report here for you:

'CONCLUSION: There is evidence of renal osteodistrophy with erosion of the clivius and calcification of the common flexor and extensor tendon origins of both elbows and ligamentous calcification around numerous joints and erosion of the tufts of the distal phalanges of several toes. There is no evidence of a stress fracture at this stage, but early stress fractures can be missed on plain films and a repeat study in 2 weeks time of the affected area may be appropriate to look for periosteal reaction.'

Did that make any sense to you?
