More Big O?

The last episode of The Big O, "RD", aired on Cartoon Network for the first time on April 18th. As of right now, there are no more episodes available anywhere. It's all finished.

What's that, you say? You want more? Well, so do I! Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to encourage the production of more Big O episodes.

First and foremost, a good thing would be to reward Bandai financially for releasing the show in the first place by preordering the DVD version. It's already available for preorders at Amazon.com, The Right Stuf, and Anime Nation.

Second, you could send a (polite!!) e-note to Cartoon Network. They actually have a handy-dandy form for feedback here. Remember, politeness counts!

Third, an encouraging note to Bandai Entertainment (who also have a feedback form) would probably also help move things along.

Fourth, astute reader Cailean Babcock managed to dig up an official English-language email address for feedback directly to Sunrise. There's a web page here, and the email (where we're advised to send "opinions, request, and impressions by e-mail to SUNRISE, INC." " is here. However, the page is very old, and the email may not be read regularly.

HOWEVER: Please remember that Cartoon Network and Bandai Entertainment do not own The Big O outright. By supporting their products and giving them our feedback, the idea is to encourage them to put pressure on SUNRISE, Inc. (the animation studio responsible for The Big O) to create more episodes.

Another problem is the fact that e-mailed requests like these often aren't taken seriously enough-- to quote my good friend and fellow Big O webmeister Mara K., writing and demanding more episodes of The Big O via email is about as effective as writing a stranger and demanding that they make eggs for you RIGHT NOW.

On that note, here are physical, snail-mail addresses for Cartoon Network and Bandai Entertainment. If you like the show enough, please consider wasting a couple of stamps and some printer toner to put your thoughts on the series on paper and send them in to the companies that have brought us The Big O in the U.S.

Not sure about what to put on paper? Here's a basic idea:

To whom it may concern,

I'm writing to you because I'm a fan of The Big O, an animated TV series that was recently broadcast by Cartoon Network and released by Bandai Entertainment USA. I understand that only thirteen episodes of the show were originally produced, but that isn't enough.

The fact is, I must have more. The series ended on a terrible cliffhanger, and the creative team behind the series (Kazuyoshi Katayama, Keiichi Sato, and Chiaki Konaka) have all expressed interest in continuing the series. Please consider this letter a formal request to have more episodes of The Big O TV series made. I understand that you are not SUNRISE, Inc. (the Japanese animation studio) and therefore can't produce the episodes yourself, but I'm hoping that my letter of support will encourage you to put pressure on SUNRISE and ask them to produce more episodes of the Big O.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Finally, a member of the Big O forum has suggested emailing series screenwriter Chiaki Konaka to ask for more episodes. Let me state this: Mr. Konaka, Mr. Sato (character designer) and Mr. Katayama (director) would already like to do more episodes. They need approval from SUNRISE for this. The best way to get SUNRISE interested is to get their business partners in a lather over this. And how do you do that? Do the above things! Grab a copy of the first Big O DVD, or if you can't afford it, at least write to Cartoon Network and Bandai Entertainment to let them know that you loved the show and want some more! It doesn't have to end here - our voices count!
