Chapter 22

We walked hurriedly down the hallway. Our feet were silent on the red thin carpet. Going down one flight of steps we were stopped from two ghosts looking at us.

“Up! Up!” J.C. yelled as we turned and ran back up the couple of steps we took before. Joey and I were going down the other stairs when we stopped short in front of 2 more ghosts.

“Go up!” I yelled. Looking down both flights of stairs I realized we were trapped. We couldn’t get out of the house without dying first and even then they still wouldn’t let us leave. Unless…

“You guys we have got to get to my room,” I told them.

“Why?” Joey asked keeping his eyes on the 4 ghosts that kept getting closer and closer.

“It’s the only way out. When I count to 3, turn and run. I’ll somehow distract them.”

“No, I’m not leaving without you.” Joey said squeezing my hand tighter.

“You have to, they’re trying to kill you not me,” I persisted.

“Tabitha…”

“One…Two…” I let go of Joey’s hand. “Three! Run!” The guys turned running down the hallway we just came from except Joey. “Run!” I screamed at him. “Run!” The ghosts were closing in on us more. “Run!” I screamed again. Hastily he turned and ran, leaving me alone with the ghosts. I turned to face the ghosts again.

“You have been haunting me for the last 18 years and I’m tired of it. You made me cry, scream and hurt. I think its time for you to stop and go to hell for the pain you cost us all. Leave!” I yelled at them. I turned around to run down the hallway when I saw the lady with half a face blocking my path. She came towards me.

Holding onto the banister I looked below me on the ballroom floor. I felt dizzy. Looking at the lady I screamed loudly. Taking another breath I filled my lungs and screamed for help. “Joey! Help! Joey!”

I suddenly felt myself being flung over the banister. With one sudden movement I caught the ledge with my right hand. My legs dangled freely over he ledge. “Joey!”

My hand started to get tired from holding my body. I used my other hand to grab the ledge. I tried to pull my self up but I couldn’t do it. My hands started to slip away. I said a silent prayer to GOD to send a miracle to help me.

I screamed again for help. “Joey!”

Joey peeked his head over the banister. “What are you doing?”

“Just hanging around. Come on, Joey I’m slipping.” He reached for my hand but couldn’t grab it.

“I can’t reach, you have got to help me.”

“I’ll fall.”

“No, you won’t. I won’t let you.”

“Yes…”

“Tabitha,” I looked into his eyes and relaxed, “I won’t let you fall. Trust me.”

His eyes captured me in his steady glare. He reached for my hand again. I let my hand release from the ledge as I reached for Joey’s hand. I stretched farther up. My other hand started to slip.

“Joey, I’m slipping.” He reached farther out for me desperate to reach me. My hand was at the edge. He just grabbed my hand when my hand slipped from the ledge. I let out a little scream as I hung in the air with just Joey’s hand holding onto mine.

“Joey don't let go.”

“I won’t.” I looked into his eyes and saw how scared he was. I knew that if he would lose his grip I would fall to my death. Beneath the scared look I saw love and knew he wouldn’t let me go without dying himself. “Tabitha, I can’t just pull you up by myself. Princess, you will have to help me.”

I nodded. He started to slowly pull me up. I struggled to help him. He finally got me on the ledge. He pulled me over the banister and we hugged.

“Oh my god, I love you so much. I won’t leave you again. I promise,” Joey said while he kissed all over my face. I started crying in his shirt. My knees were shaking so hard Joey was the only thing that kept me standing.

Joey looked over my shoulder and gasped. “We need to get out of here. Come on, let’s go.” Joey started pulling me down the hallway.

I looked behind us and saw the lady looking at us like she was angry. Her face was all scrunched up like she was going to torture us then kill us. If looks could kill, we would have already been dead. We ran for my room.
