Chapter 20

I clutched my pillow in my hands to my tear streaked face. My pillow was lightly soaked from the tears I cried. How will I ever get him back? I love him so much. My head suddenly popped up from my pillow, remembering something.

“What have I done?” I asked out loud.

I raced from my bed to the trapdoor. Going down the old stairs dust greeted me. I could barely see while running down the cold corridor. Lights flickered once. By the time I reached Joey’s room my tears were all dried.

I didn’t see Joey till I looked on the balcony. He was twirling the ring I threw at him around his fingertip. The moonlight shone on his face in a light blue haze. I stood silently, watching him look at the full moon. His eyes sparkled in the light. A light cool summer breeze brushed past us making his hair slightly sway. He looked down at the ring and then at the pond sadly. The love I had for him burned deeper into my soul.

Joey suddenly turned around facing me. He started to apologize again while I walked toward him. I grabbed the side of his face and pulled him into a kiss. After a moment of realization he grabbed my hips. He pulled me closer into a deeper more passionate kiss. My hands went through his soft hair. We pulled away.

“Telepathic communication.” I simply told him. Joey smiled.

“Will you please take your present?” he asked holding the ring in front of me.

I took it and put it on my finger. “I think we better go down. We did say we were going to the exploration.” I reminded him.

He grabbed my hand leading me down the hallway. The sweet sensation still lingering on my lips when we reached Lance, Justin, and Chris’ side.

“Where are we starting first?” Chris asked.

“I say in the kitchen,” Justin spoke up.

“Why? Did something happen in the kitchen?” asked Joey.

Justin shrugged. “I don’t know. I’m just hungry.”

After several minutes of waiting in the kitchen nothing happened.

“I don’t think they are into kitchens,” Chris suggested.

As soon as he said it the room’s tempature dropped 15 degrees. The lights got dimmer. We looked around ourselves. We all shivered.

“Do you guys feel that?” I asked.

They all nodded looking around. Heavy breathing started. The candles on the table blew out by themselves. The crystal chandelier above the table started to slowly turn. We looked up scared. Looking at each other we knew the breathing wasn’t coming from any of us. Without a word spoken we got up and left.

The living room was a lot warmer than the kitchen. Well, for a couple of minutes that is. We started to talk about what happened in the kitchen when it suddenly got colder. We again looked around. Our eyes rested on the piano as it started playing…on its own.

Lance got up from his seat beside me on the couch. He walked to the piano.

“What are you doing?” Joey asked his arm around my shoulders.

“I want to see if it will touch me,” Lance put his fingers on the white ivory keys. Nothing happened. “Ok, I think we should go upstairs,” Lance suggested.

“I agree on that.” Chris rose from his chair, followed by the rest of us.

We went to the playroom I used to play in the most. As soon as we shut the door an awful smell filled our nostrils. The smell of rotting flesh.

“What is that awful smell?” Justin asked covering his nose.

“Rotting flesh,” I told them.

“What?” they all chorused.

“Smells good don’t it?” I asked sarcastically.

“Hardly,” Chris said.

They all started to roam around the room, looking at carious objects. Joey stopped at one thing and called the rest of us over. We looked down at a baby doll in a toy cradle.

“Look at the doll, its sweating,” Joey pointed out. “Its not everyday you see that happen.”

“Its so cold in here though, why would it be sweating?” Lance pondered out loud.

“I don’t know,” I answered. “Unless…” I stopped

“Unless what?” Joey urged.

“Unless the house is so hot…” I stopped again hoping what I think is happening isn’t really happening.

“Why don’t we sweat then?” Joey asked confused.

I turned around and started to bite on my thumbnail. “Maybe something so cold is standing near us we can’t feel the heat, just the coldness.” They all turned pale.

“I’m getting out of here,” Justin said moving to the door. He just about reached the door when he jumped back suddenly. “Ouch,” he yelled holding his arm. Justin quickly moved where he was before, still holding his arm.

“What happened?” I asked moving his hand form his arm. “Oh my god,” I whispered.

“Something scratched me.” Red blood ran in streaks down Justin’s arm. Three claw marks showed on his arm where all the blood was coming from.

Lance grabbed a small, white blanket and threw it at me. After catching it I tied it around Justin’s arm trying to stop the bleeding.

“We need to get you to a hospital, the scratches are to close to your main vein. With the scratches going down your arm it could’ve even hit it. If it did, you could bleed to death,” I told him.

“Thanks for the encouragement.”

“I try.”

Joey was going to open the other door when he was also scratched. Joey’s wasn’t as bad as Justin’s but it drew blood.

“You guys something isn’t letting us out of this room,” I told them.

After I said it a loud evil laugh filled the room. We looked up at the ceiling where the laugh came from. A dark black reddish figure laughed at us while circling the light. Quick as light the demon started pounding on Chris. He cried out in agony as the demon bit him hard on the shoulder.

The demon had dull horns on the top of his head. Long claws on his hands and what felt like hooves as his feet, which he continually used at us.

In a desperate attempt to get out of the room, Lance lunged at the door. I screamed as Lance was thrown to the other side of the room where he landed on his back hard. He groaned in pain. I rushed to his side to help him up.

Just as Lance got to his feet I felt myself being lifted and thrown. I flew backwards. I seemed to be going in slow motion. When I hit the opposite wall my breath got caught in my throat and I began to struggle. Hitting the floor I gasped for breath again and again. A tightness in my chest grew and grew until I couldn’t stand it. Just when I thought I was going to die, the tightness in my chest eased and I slowly began to breath. Taking slow and shallow breaths I stood up.

Joey got up form where he was thrown. I limped toward him. My ankle twisted when I hit the floor. The demon laughed at us each time any of us were thrown. After I helped Joey from the floor I turned toward the demon that was hitting Justin.

“In the name of GOD I command you to leave this house now!” The demon looked at me and slowly started to disappear. As soon as he was gone we ran from the room.
