The guys stood outside the theatre. They waited to see the sister’s faces. Hallie and Monique turned around a corner talking. Their eyes dropped to the ground as a group of teenage girls walked by. Monique and Hallie came up to stand beside the group. They were arguing.
“He was not a football player,” Monique argued.
“Yes, he was.”
“No, he wasn’t.”
“Yes, he was. Ask Chris,” Hallie told her.
“Fine. Was O.J. Simpson a football player?” Monique asked.
“Yeah, he was a record breaking running back,” Chris told them.
“Ha, told you,” Hallie bragged.
Monique shrugged. “He can’t be a record breaking running back. He got caught.” She laughed at her own joke.
“Oh, man, that was a bad joke. So lame. God that so sucked.” Hallie said.
“I know. Ok, so what are we watching today?” Monique asked clapping her hands.
“I want to watch ‘The Fast and the Furious’,” Justin said.
“I heard ‘Pearl Harbor’ was a good movie,” Hallie put her sense in.
After moments of discussing and arguing they all decided on ‘Pearl Harbor’. They got their tickets and went in the dark large theatre room. Sitting clear in the back where it was the darkest, they talked and laughed until more people came in. Hallie stood up from beside Monique and Joey.
“Where are you going?” Monique asked.
“Nature calls.”
“What?”
“I need to take a leak.”
“Oh, I’ll go with you,” Monique stood up. She was squeezing past Joey when somebody grabbed her ass.
“Don’t touch my ass, Joey.”
“It wasn’t me,” Joey told her.
“Yeah, whatever, pimp.”
“Hey, that is pimp daddy. If you’re going to yell at me, get the name right.” Monique flicked him off.
“Oh wait. Get me a popcorn and a Pepsi while you’re up,” Chris said. Monique and Hallie stood there waiting. Chris shooed them off.
“Show the money, monkey boy,” Monique told him.
Chris let out a little groan and got in his jeans pocket. He handed a five-dollar bill over. “Women, that’s all they want from you, just the money. Here you go sweetie.” Everybody handed over their money.
Justin yelled over his shoulder. “Don’t forget to wash your hands.” They both gave him the finger. Justin laughed.
Hallie and Monique stood in line for the popcorn. “Did you hear the comment Chris made? It wouldn’t have been so bad if all of them agreed to it. Even Lance agreed to it,” Hallie told her. “They so need to pay. Chris wasn’t going to even give us money, the old geezer.”
“I already have a plan going,” Monique told her.
They ordered. Before they reached the theatre Monique hide Chris’ change in his popcorn. Hallie shook her head and smiled. Everybody looked up as they went through the door.
Hallie gave the guys their popcorn. Monique held five drinks for the guys. She squeezed through J.C.’s legs and took a drink of his Pepsi. J.C. looked up at her shocked. Monique gave it to him with a smile.
Next was Chris. She did the same with his drink. Chris looked at her like she was crazy. Monique did the same with Joey’s, Justin’s, and Lance’s. After she sat down Chris leaned forward and looked at her.
“Where’s my change?”
“I kept it for the little comment you made,” Monique told her.
“See, what did I tell you guys?”
The previews started. Monique grabbed some popcorn from Justin’s bucket on his lap. Justin stared at her as she took more handfuls. Monique looked around. She picked up Justin’s drink and took a sip before eating more of the popcorn.
“What the hell is this?” he asked.
Monique smiled at him. “My pay.”
J.C. leaned over the guys. “Did you guys put salt on my popcorn?”
Hallie nodded.
“I’m allergic to salt,” he said.
“Well, can’t let good popcorn go to waste. I’ll eat it then,” Monique said.
J.C. shook his head and leaned back. “I was just kidding.”
Monique shrugged and took another handful of popcorn. Justin watched her. She turned towards him. Moving her eyebrows up and down she slowly put a piece of popcorn in her mouth. “Man, Justin, your popcorn is good. Especially your kernels.”
Lance stopped his hand halfway to his mouth. He looked at them both. His eyes were wide. “That could be taken in many different ways.”
Monique licked her lips seductively at him. Lance leaned back into his seat. Hallie hit Monique in the arm. Monique jumped then looked at her. “What?”
“Knock it off. You’re embarrassing me.”
“That’s what I do best.”
Monique reached over for more popcorn. “Here, just take it. All of it.” Justin shoved the bucket in her lap.
“I don’t want it,” she told him shoving it back. “I just wanted a handful. Jezz, touchy.”
Mid way through the movie Monique reached into her pocket and pulled out a straw and a couple napkins. She tore off a small piece of napkin and put it in her mouth. After a moment she pulled the straw up to her mouth and blew. The spitball sailed through the air and just missed a man’s head by inches. She swore under her breath.
Monique put another piece of napkin in her mouth. Aiming for the same guy she blew harder. It was wide to the right. Hallie noticed the white piece of paper fly across her line of vision. She looked at Monique who looked like she didn’t do anything. Hallie knew better. Never underestimate her sister. She elbowed her.
“What?” Monique asked totally innocent.
“Stop it.”
“Stop what?” Joey looked at them.
“Shooting spitballs.”
“It wasn’t me,” Monique told her.
“Bullshit, it was so you.”
“Whatever.”
Hallie looked back at the screen. Monique covered her smile and laugh with a hand. Joey watched her spit another spitball to a guy-who looked around the age of 30- on the other side of the aisle and 3 rows down. A young girl was sitting beside him. He had his arm around her. Joey looked back at Monique. That time the others heard the soft sound of the air coming from the straw.
They looked down at her. Except Hallie she shook her head and continued to watch the movie. Monique put another piece of napkin in her mouth. She blew it out the straw and it hit the side of the guy’s head and bounced in the drink he was holding.
Chris started laughing first his voice carrying throughout the movie theatre. Some people turned in their seats to look at him. One guy told him to shut up. Hallie missed it all. She kept asking Joey and J.C. what happened. They didn’t tell her because they too were laughing. She turned to Lance and Justin they couldn’t say because they were still laughing. After they calmed down a bit Hallie asked again.
“Monique just blew a spitball and it hit the side of that guy’s head and bounced into his drink,” J.C. said wiping his eyes.
Hallie turned to scold her when another spitball hit the guy’s head. The guy felt the back of his head. They saw his face like he was confused.
Hallie looked at Monique. “I can’t believe you did that.” Everybody laughed except Hallie. “Guys that is not funny.”
Monique was about to spit another spitball when the woman the guy was sitting with took a drink of his drink. They laughed again. The woman made a weird face and looked up at her date. She leaned back in her seat.
Hallie scolded her again. “Don’t do it again. You’re acting like a child. Stop it. How did you get that straw anyway?”
“I stole it.”
“You stole it?” Hallie asked shocked.
Monique shrugged. “Yeah.”
“When?” Hallie asked still not believing her sister stole a straw.
“When that guy turned around to get our popcorn,” Monique told her. She spit the next spitball in the lady’s hair. “Oops.”
“I was standing right behind you.”
“I know. I’m just sneaky,” Monique told her.
“Why didn’t you just ask him for another straw?”
“Because it’s no fun if you just ask him. That takes all the fun out of it. No risk sucks,” Monique, said.
“Well that is what sensible people do,” Hallie reminded her.
Monique put the rest of the napkins in her mouth. All 5 of them. “This sucks. I’m not getting him.” After wetting it with her saliva she took it out of her mouth and held it in her palm. The spitball was as big as a softball.
“Don’t do it, Monique. You are going to get us kicked out,” Hallie warned her.
“I know but what a way to go.” Monique reared back her arm and let the spitball fly. It sailed through the air before hitting the man square in the back of the head. The man had saliva running down his neck. The man grabbed the spitball and stood up.
“Who threw that? Who threw that?”
Monique looked up from the screen. “Threw what?”
“This spitball.”
“Ugh, yuck. That was rude and mean. Who would do such a thing? That is so disgusting,” Monique totally covered her ass.
The man grabbed the date he had and stormed out of the theatre in a rage. Only when they had left did they all laugh.
