Well I don’t know what happened. Well I know what happened but I don’t know how it started. It all started one morning I think. Well that’s where I am going to start there because I can’t remember much before that on this subject.
It was the middle of June. I was walking along the street in London when I saw a pub I’d never noticed before. I must have walked along this street about a thousand times but never once had this pub come into my eye line. I looked at my watch, it was ten to twelve. I didn’t have anything else to do so I went inside. The inside was dark but nice. There was a group of people sitting in the corner. They were all very funnily dressed, then I noticed every person in the pub was dressed like that. Long robes, of different colours. I was just looking around to a man in a set of blue robes with waist length silver hair and beard when the bartender asked me what I wanted to drink.
“Just a coke thanks.” I told him, still staring absently at the man in light blue robes.
“Coke?” the bartender asked.
“Yeah.”
“Sorry, we don’t serve that here.” The bartender said eyeing me strangely.
“What?” I snapped back into reality. A pub that doesn’t have coke? “I’ll just have a water then.”
“Ok.” The bartender answered and fished around under the bar and brought up a glass of water.
“Thanks.” I answered.
My eyes darted back to the man in the blue robes who was now standing and getting ready to go. I put two pounds on the bar and followed him into the back of the pub, out of a door and into an ally way. Then the man pulled a stick out of his pocket and tapped a brick above the dustbin. Suddenly the wall began to move. It was creating a hole. I stood, rooted to the spot. The man seemed perfectly fine. After a few seconds there was a large archway with a message along the top. DIAGON ALLY.
“What in the world?” I gasped. The man must have heard me because he turned around.
“Pardon me?” He asked politely. His light blue eyes twinkled behind his glasses as he smiled kindly at me.
“How did you do that?” I asked. It was then that he looked down at my clothes.
“Oh, you’re a muggle. How did you find the Leaky Cauldron?” He asked kindly.
“I’m a what?”
“Muggle. Person without magical powers.” The man explained.
“You’re a, you’re a…” I stammered.
“Wizard.” The man finished. I shook my head disbelievingly and started backing away. The man pulled out what must have been a wand and started muttering something, but he stopped in the middle and turned around.
Someone had screamed. I heard it too. The man ran into the ally way, completely forgetting about me. I followed curiously. It was hard to keep up with the man through all the people but I kept him in sight as he ran further and further into the ally. Suddenly the man stopped still and stared at a group of people. All of them were masked and dressed in long black robes.
I gasped as I saw that two of them had hold of a teenage boy who was struggling to get out of their grip, also clutching his forehead like it was causing him tremendous pain. One man stepped forward and unmasked himself. I gasped with shock as I saw his face. His eyes were red and cold. And their shape was almost like a snake’s. His nose was flat, triangular and had thin slits for nostrils. His lips were thin and straight. To me he looked like a snake made human. He walked forward making a gesture towards the old man in blue robes.
“Dumbledore, old man. You weren’t invited to the party.” The man hissed. Even his voice sounded snake like.
“Sorry to crash this party. But someone here never planned to attend. I think he should have the right to leave this party of yours Voldemort.” The man he called Dumbledore said. He indicated to the teenage boy as he spoke.
“Yes, well he’s the guest of honour. Can’t have him leave before he serves his purpose.” Voldemort hissed.
“Attacio.” Dumbledore roared making the boy fly towards him. The boy crumpled to the floor as he landed, his hands covering his forehead completely as he howled in pain.
“Oh Dumbledore. Manners, manners. You should ask before taking.” Voldemort hissed and he tried to make the boy come back to him but Dumbledore muttered another spell which crashed into the one Voldemort had sent and the disappeared in front of me.
The boy stood up and grabbed his wand. His face was resolute, stern, knowing. Voldemort looked at the boy and smiled.
“Well Harry, you’re going to fight like your father? Strong and proud, That wasn’t how he died. He died pleading for me to let him live, he didn’t give a damn for you boy, he was saving his own skin.”
“YOU’RE LIEING!” Harry yelled back. His face was red with fury.
I looked at the people around them. Most of them were stood still, to scared to move. The men in black were al starting to prowl around Voldemort, Dumbledore and Harry. I stood just outside the circle waiting for something else to happen. This Voldemort had killed Harry’s father. Voldemort paced back and forward, obviously considering his options. Then in a flash he yelled…
“Adava Kedavra.” He pointed his wand at a bystander. A green flash came out of the wand, when I could see again the woman was lying on the floor, a glazed look upon her face.
“You see, you can’t save everyone Dumbledore.” Voldemort hissed successfully.
Dumbledore gazed into Voldemort’s eyes and nodded silently. After a moment he spoke quietly.
“I know I cannot save everyone.” Dumbledore answered sombrely. Suddenly two men appeared out of nowhere. One was quite young had short dark messy hair, he was very thin and he stood next to Harry. The other was young but had greying hair and lines on his face. Both wore shabby robes. The people around gasped and a mutter of “Sirius Black. Oh my god it’s Sirius Black, is he here to join You-Know-Who?” ran through the frightened crowd while people pointed at the man with dark hair.
“Sirius, Remus, how nice of you to join us.”
A small man stepped forward and the two men who had just arrived had a look of fury and hatred across their faces.
“You rat!” Sirius snarled, very dog like he had his teeth bared and his eyes were wild and furious.
“Sirius. Act like the human you are and not like a dog.” The small masked man squeaked back. The man then turned to me and yelled.
“MUGGLE! THAT ONE IS A MUGGLE!” He yelled in his squeaky voice.
Everyone in the street turned to me and I gasped. Voldemort turned on me and started to whisper a spell. Remus, who was standing next to Dumbledore, said a spell and it shot at Voldemort, knocking him off his feet. The short man yelled Adava Kedavra, his wand pointed at Remus’ heart. It hit him and he fell to the floor. Sirius yelled and shot the same spell back at the short man, who also fell to the floor dead. Dumbledore grabbed Harry around the waist and they disappeared. Sirius picked up the body of his fallen friend, tears streaming silently down his face, though his eyes were cold with hatred. He also disappeared. I knew I had to run. I sprinted from the ally way and out under the archway. I bolted into the pub and out the front door. I didn’t stop running until I reached my house, fifteen streets away even though I knew nobody was following me.
I never told anybody about what happened that day. I knew people would think I was crazy and I would have to go to a psychiatrist. I try to remember everything I can about that day. I walked down that street many times afterwards, trying to find the little pub that started my witness to that terrible day but I can never even see a faint trace of it’s existence. I think I was aloud to see it that day for a purpose, though I don’t know what that purpose was. But I now know there is a world with wizards, magic and a man named Voldemort I hate more than life itself.
