Your Lips Won't Do Tonight

Despite my inability to think clearly.
And my desire to fall blindly...
Your lips won't do tonight.

You're unofficially defined as a faulty gentleman.
While I'm down and desperate for affection.
While I'm vulnerable you make your move

Rehearsed movements
Warm touches, bare shoulder blades.
Common sense refuses to fade
In response to the fake concern clouding your eyes.

There is no move you can make.
Nothing you can say.
My ignorance is not so complete
That I'd trust you for a second.

So retreat, you needn't hang your head.
You needn't feel ashamed.
You just aren't him and noone else is right.
And so your lips won't do tonight,

You move in closer
Sensing weakness
Warm hands sliding from shoulders to hips.
Unaware of the disgust residing on my face.

So don't move in closer
And don't rest your hand on my hand.
Just because my heart has been slaughtered
Does not mean my head died along with it.

Lips upon Lips
Receiving no reply
Because your lips would never be enough
To replace his.
Not tonight.
