Betrayers and Saviors- The Odd stage of Geeba By Jeremy "Slighbrarian" Pickett I realize it has been a good while since I actually wrote an article for my own site, but I'm sure I'll begin to write more now that I sort of have a little time now. Mainly,I've been extrememly busy with work and other odd-ball stuff to warrant any time for writing articles about Geeba/Sligh. But I'm back now and here's the shimmy on Betrayers and Saviors, the second and third sets of the Kamigawa Block. Betrayers: ---------- Akki Raider-1R 2/1(unc) Whenever a land is put into a graveyard from play, Akki Raider gets +1/+0 until end of turn. -He's basically a normal 2/1 for 1R as his ability is rarely used.- Cunning Bandit-1RR 2/2(unc-flip) Whenever you play a Spirit or Arcane spell, you may put a ki counter on Cunning Bandit. At end of turn, if there are two or more ki counters on Cunning Bandit, you may flip it. --- Azamuki, Treachery Incarnate(legend) 5/2 Remove a ki counter from Azamuki, Treachery Incarnate: Gain control of target creature until end of turn. -This guy is really good considering you sohuld be playing four of both Frostling and Hearth Kami.- Flames of the Blood Hand-2R (unc) instant Flames of the Blood Hand deals 4 damage to target player. The damage can’t be prevented. If that player would gain life this turn, that player gains no life instead. -very useful when going against Kokusho. It's also not terribly bad for the odd 4 life left situation.- Frostling-R (common) 1/1 Sacrifice Frostling: Frostling deals 1 damage to target creature. -Yes Mogg Fanatic has returned,only can't damage opponent.- Fumiko the Lowblood-2RR(rare) 3/2 Fumiko the Lowblood has bushido X, where X is the number of attacking creatures. (When this blocks or becomes blocked, it gets +X/+X until end of turn.) Creatures your opponents control attack each turn if able. -She's really good at disrupting another creature horde,forcing them to attack essentially clearing you path.- Genju of the Spires-R (unc) enchant mountain 2: Enchanted Mountain becomes a 6/1 red Spirit creature until end of turn. It’s still a land. When enchanted Mountain is put into a graveyard, you may return Genju of the Spires from your graveyard to your hand. -Excellent against control. He's reusable also as long as you can keep the lands on the board.- Goblin Cohort-R(common) 2/2 Goblin Cohort can’t attack unless you’ve played a creature spell this turn -Mogg Conscripts all over again,we all knew how good they did in Tempest block for David Price.- Ishi-Ishi Crackshot-1R(Rare) 1/1 legend Whenever an opponent plays a Spirit or Arcane spell, Ishi-Ishi, Akki Crackshot deals 2 damage to that player. -A good sideboard card in todays environment.- Mannichi, the Fevered Dream-2R(rare) 1/2 legend 1R: Switch each creature’s power and toughness until end of turn. -Rivals Dwarven Thaumaturagist, might be better. Only I haven't really found how good he is now. Thaum was good but he was in a time when people maindecked Wall of Roots and Wall of Blossoms like mad- Ogre Recluse-3R(unc) 5/4 Whenever a player plays a spell, tap Ogre Recluse. -He's actually quite good unless your against blue,even then he's not that bad.- Shinka Gatekeeper-2R(common) 3/2 Whenever Shinka Gatekeeper is dealt damage, it deals that much damage to you. -A Balduvian Horde with the Jackal Pup ability. Decent in a pinch but there are a few better 3 drops.- Sowing Salt-2RR(unc) sorcery Remove target nonbasic land from the game. Search its controller’s graveyard, hand, and library for all cards with the same name as that land and remove them from the game. That player then shuffles his or her library. -always used against Tooth and Nail(the big deck now in type2), also handy against Stalking Stones/Blinkmoth Nexus- Umezawa's Jitte-2(rare-chase) legendary Equipment Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage, put two charge counters on Umezawa’s Jitte. Remove a charge counter from Umezawa’s Jitte: Choose one — Equipped creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn; or target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn; or you gain 2 life. Equip:2 -no need to explain this card. If it hits then it's almost an auto-loss. You almost have to have these in block constructed.- Gods’ Eye, Gate to the Reikai-(unc) legendary land Tap: Add 1 Mana to your mana pool. When Gods’ Eye, Gate to the Reikai is put into a graveyard from play, put a 1/1 colorless Spirit creature token into play. -Really good in tandem with Akki Avalanchers and Raiders. They changed the Legend rule so when you play the second it destroys both giving you two 1/1's so it's more critters to kill with- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Saviors:(actually haven't tested these yet,so i'll give initial thoughts only) -------- Adamaro, First to Desire-1RR(rare) legendary creature-*/* Adamaro, First to Desire’s power and toughness are each equal to the number of cards in the hand of the opponent with the most cards in hand. -seems to be really potent against control oriented decks. Will normally be a 2/2 or 3/3 for 1RR, so not bad- Akki Underling-1R(unc) 2/1 As long as you have seven or more cards in hand, Akki Underling gets +2/+1 and has first strike. -Really just a generic 2/1 for 1R as your nevre going to have seven or more cards in hand.- Glitterfang-R(common) 1/1 Haste At end of turn, return Glitterfang to its owner’s hand. -Eh I really don't like him, but he's still Geeba/Sligh,although he's probably good with Cunning Bandit- Godo's Irregulars-R(unc) 1/1 R: Godo’s Irregulars deals 1 damage to target creature blocking it. -I like these guys, it makes blocking with 2/2's and higher tedious for the opponent,meaning they might walk through everytime- Skyfire Kirin-2RR(rare) legendary creature-3/3 Flying.Whenever you play a Spirit or Arcane spell, you may gain control of target creature with that spell’s converted mana cost until end of turn. -a very good flyer for red,although with Rhathi Dragon comming back in 9th he might not be the flyer for long. He's still going to steal a few creatures in his time and beat for three in the air for 2RR.- Pithing Needle-1(rare) artifact As Pithing Needle comes into play, name a card. Activated abilities of the named card can’t be played unless they’re mana abilities. -Will be a sideboard card against many decks using Kumano and Slogger-
