Interview with Adam Pedretti:

2002 didn't get off to a good start for Killing Heidi's Adam Pedretti. For one his grandmother died just before new years, his cat got run over two weeks later, he's just broken up with his girlfriend and KH's new album isn't on the shelves. "I guess when you hit rock bottom, the only way is up" he tells us.
It's been 3 years since KH released their debut album, Reflector, in 1999 and fans are waiting-yearning-for its successor. The release of KH's second album, due out next month, has not only been a tedious wait for diehard fans, but also the band itself.
"It's been a long time between drinks" drummer Adam tells us. While KH fans may be frustrated about the lack of KH presence over the last year, Adam seems equally, if not more annoyed "We were preparing to take 6 months to do this record and i don't know how but it blew out to nearly a year. We started pre-production on this, that took 3 weeks and then 2 weeks of rehearsing the material full on and then we're cutting drum tracks and bass tracks and rhythum tracks straight off the cuff. We did all that within the space of two or three months so i've got no idea where the rest of our times been spent. It's got me knackered! If we can spend that much time on the road i'd be happy, but at the moment it seems like we're doing bugger all".

While Adam doesn't have a clue what has caused the delay in KH's second album, the band suffered a major setback when lead singer Ella Hooper had to undergo a serious throat op. a cyst on Ella's vocal chord had to be cut out, meaning 5 weeks of no talking. Fortunately their first single was recorded prior to Ella's op, meaning KH had at least one song to offer impatient fans. The group released the single earlier this year, which included 3 bonus live tracks recorded at Jesse Hoopers 21st. "It was Jesse's 21st and we went out to his mums in Violet Town, cause she's got this church she just bought. It was more or less there for rock n roll so we could have a party there for Jess's 21st and one of our engineers, Robbie, had driven all our stuff there and brought our gear up. There were BBQ's and grog everywhere and we were having so much fun and then all of a sudden Paul is up there saying 'right, we'll record these songs now' and by this stage all of us are just going 'what! couldn't we have done this a bit earlier? We're a bit pissed now!".

The thing Adam is most looking foward to is going on tour again. Killing Heidi are also in talks to tour New Zealand this year and our Sony representatives are gunning to make it happen-something the band is very excited about. "We all love NZ. Ella really loves it over there, she had a ball. I had a really good time in Queenstown as well, especially jumping off that damn cliff, man! I bungeed and did the swing, went water skiing, tobogganing. We had a great time. It was excellent...we kept stopping the car and running into the bush to play Xena and Hercules. And Jesse's seen LOTR a couple of times so i can imagine him buggering off into the wilderness, we love NZ. It's a beautiful place. We drove around alot of it and we were just amazed how beautiful the landscape is. It's such a beautiful country. And you people are damn fine aswell-always making sure we've got a seat or a drink". In the meantime KH are preoccupying them-selves by playing golf...

"Everyones into golf! I love it. It's a great way to walk off a hangover(laughs). We used to play ratbag golf where you could only play if you've got tattoos and you smoke and swear. Ella has been playing and Waz plays aswell, so we've gotta hook Jesse cause then everyone will play golf. It'll take us two years to tour the world cos we'll be playing golf everywhere we stop. It's addictive. We'll make a deal then Adam. If KH comes to NZ you can play as much golf as you like. We don't mind if it takes 2 years to play all the golf courses in NZ, so long as you do an equal amount of touring here, sounds like a fair exchange, don't you think?
