Killing Heidi deliver rock to the river: Kathryn Torpy

KILLING Heidi's Ella Hooper describes the group's new album as "more mature" than their smash-hit debut Reflector, but brother Jesse advises that she be careful with the term.

"I don't know whether mature is a good word for us – I think it's just more an evolution," the guitarist said.

"We'll look back at it in five years' time and we'll definitely think that it wasn't mature."

The Hoopers and bandmates Adam Pedretti and Warren Jenkin stormed the charts with their debut in 2000, selling half a million copies and collecting a swag of ARIA awards. Their new album hits the shelves next month.

They are in Brisbane for Riverfestival's free Riverconcert tonight.

Aneiki, Zephyr Timbre and DJ Groove Terminator are also on the bill for tonight's Riverstage gig, from 5.30pm.

The Riverfestival's Riversymposium yesterday included the presentation of river management awards. The Yarra River's Merri Creek Management Committee won the 2002 Thiess Services National Riverprize. The Mekong River Commission, responsible for the Mekong in Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, won the international award.
