A faint voice echoed through the jungle and before Billy had time to realize what it meant, the Kirbys were running away from him.

"Eric!"

"Eric!"

Just a bit slower, Billy ran behind them. Ever since having left the shelter of the trees that morning, Billy had been on the lookout. He was searching for dinosaurs, yes. But more so, he was searching for some sign -- any sign -- of Alan.

A feeling of dread had sunk in his stomach the night before. The night had seemed an eternity -- sitting alone in the darkness, praying for some sign that Alan had made it. And the longer they walked, the further they went away from the last place he'd seen Alan, the worse Billy felt.

The screams of Nash and Udesky as they were ripped apart echoed in his ears and in the moments of real doubt Billy had he was left to wonder. Did Alan have time to scream? Did he scream for him?

"Mom! Dad!"

"Eric!"

The joyous screams broke through Billy's thoughts as he jogged toward the boy's voice. He looked up only to see a monstrous fence looming before them. Billy laughed quietly -- humorlessly -- at the thought. Everything on Isla Sorna was monstrous.

"Mom! Dad!"

Squinting, Billy looked to see a boy -- Eric -- breaking into the open area on the other side of the fence. He smiled faintly at the reunion about to take place, even though his own heart was still heavy with uncertainty.

He was turning to look away when he saw something -- someone -- behind Eric. An instant later, he froze.

Alan.

Billy's eyes opened wide, breath catching in his throat.

He was alive. Alan was alive.

Billy watched as Alan ran forward, just behind Eric. The grad student's breath slammed back into his chest. Ignoring the family reunion, Billy stumbled forward more slowly.

Alan was alive.

He couldn't get past that single thought. It continued to repeat inside his head, as though he needed to assure himself what he was seeing was real.

Billy hung back for a moment as the Kirbys embraced their son -- his eyes never leaving Alan's face.

A near hysterical laugh burst forth as he took it all in. Mentally shaking himself, Billy took the last steps to the fence. He reached a hand through the barrier, ignoring the almost faint trembling he could see in his fingers.

When Alan took Billy's hand in a firm, familiar grasp, the younger man's knees felt weak with relief. Billy knew he was smiling like a fool, but didn't care.

Alan was alive he wanted to blurt out. Instead he settled for, "Boy am I glad to see you." He could see, however, that Alan knew everything he couldn't say, and everything he had put behind those words.

With a short nod, Alan grinned and Billy wanted nothing more than to pull him into his arms. He settled however, for squeezing Alan's hand tightly before letting go. The entire thing had taken seconds, but the renewed contact seemed to stay with him.

Alan was okay -- they were all okay.

The rest... Whatever the rest was, it could be dealt with.
