Ok. This is the review for the most awesome independent film I've ever seen, "Requiem for a Dream."
ok. It starts of with a three dope heads, a white dude, his girlfriend, and his black friend(Marlon Wayans, mind you). They devise this scheme to become rich. They buy crystal heroine and they are going to cook it into pure and sell it on the streets for a hefty price. Everything is working fine. Meanwhile, on the other side of Brooklyn, the dude's mother is watching her favorite game show when she gets a call from them saying that she has won the chance to come on the show and that they would be sending her the information in the mail. She gets excited and tries on the dress that she wore to her son's graduation. It doesn't fit, so she tries to lose weight. She goes on a diet and exercises and she decides that it's horrible. Not only that, but in an attempt to give herself red hair to match the dress, it turns her hair bright orange. At a friend's suggestion, she goes to the doctor and gets on diet pills. Three uppers in the day and a downer at night to put her to sleep. Her son comes to visit her with the gift of a new television, to show his gratitude for her being a good mother and his sorrow for being a horrible son. When he finds out that she's been taking diet pills(by the chattering in her teeth) he begs her to stop because she'll become a dope fiend and go crazy. Back to the drug storyline: they've run out of money due to their gratuitous spending habits. They are trying to figure out how to get more dope because it's hard to come by. They find out that a major importer is selling it in the back of a grocery store at twice the price. They don't have $2000 to buy it though, so the guy send his girlfriend out to sleep with a rich guy for it. She gets the money and they go to the store. Everything is going well, until a dope-head attacks one of the guys with the dope and they just start shooting everybody in sight. They barely make it out alive. They are once again stuck with no dope. They find out that there is some more in Florida, so they pack up to go and leave the girl behind. It's a three day long trip. Back in Brooklyn, his mother is going nuts. She thinks she has a double of herself coming out of the television to torture her and the fridge is trying to eat her. She walks all the way to the television on the other side of New York City all doped up and looking like a crack-head. She gets there and demands to know when she goes on the show. This is when she loses it. About the time the meat-wagon to the nut house arrives she is already mistaking people's identities and thinking that she's already been on the show and won all the prizes. Now, the dudes girlfriend, in an attempt to get more dope sleeps with a black guy. He tells her there is a party on Sunday where she can score some if she gives a show for them. By now, the mother has already been treated with drugs that won't work, so they decide to start hitting her with the electricity to the brain. I'm assuming this is some kind of shock therapy. The last scene we see of her is her friends coming to see her in the looney bin and crying because they don't like seeing her suffering. Now to the interesting part. The guys are 600 miles along, about a third of the way to Florida. They go to shoot up and they see that he has a big hole in his arm and a big black area about an inch and a half in diameter. He says it's been there a few days and it's nothing. He shoots it into the hole. Later on down the road, they go to shoot again and it has gotten bigger. About two and a half inches in diameter and the hole is bigger. They decide to go to the hospital. When the doctor sees it he calls the cops, doesn't help him, and they get arrested. While they're in jail they are checking to see who can do work. He can't even stand he's in so much pain. They look at his arm and the hole is now oozing, the black area takes up about 6 inches of his arm, and all the vains in his arm are sticking waaaaay out. They rush him to the hospital where they are rushing to save him. You hear the sound of a drill, where you see the scene fading into him laying in hospital bed awakening. He says his girlfriend's name and the nurse says they'll contact her. He says she won't come and she says she will too. The camera pulls back to show him laying in the bed with his arm cut off and a tube running into the stump. They then show his friend in jail laying there dreaming of his mother, whom he loved dearly who is passed. Then the final scene. The girl goes to the party, she is doing a request show for them and he offers a key is she shares a double-sided dildo analy with her partner. They lube it up and they go at it ON CAMERA! Next they show her laying on her couch holding the dope. The movie is over and everybody has lost.
Now, in my opinion, this is the coolest movie I have ever seen. Not just out of independent films either. I mean this is the best. The scenes are shot well, and the music is just chilling. The climax comes to a strange end and has begotten my now favorite movie: "Requiem for a Dream."
