This is from someone out there in the wide variety of people we have reading this...enjoy.
I totally agree with that whole philosophy. School is nothing but brainwashing you with busy work and trying to conform you to something that you'll never be and you don't want to be. Just the other day...we were assigned to write a journal responding to the question "what skills do you think you should learn in school in order to prepare you for the real world?" And my response was... we should learn skills that apply to however we want to spend the rest of our lives.....doing whatever it is that we choose to do. And if they absolutely insist on making us take the same grueling courses (like history that has been drilled into our heads since kindergarten only now more irrelevantly detailed) then they should show us.... not TELL us.... why it is important for us to know and how we will use it after we get out of highschool. Everyone knows that we aren't going to remember that information after highschool let alone the next day of school. Then they wonder why drop out rates have soared... why the populations of alternative schools are rising. Why correspondence learning and progressive schooling is so popular. And i know why.... it's not that we're lazy or stupid or anything like that..... It's that we are intellegent enough to know that we are not going to need 13 yrs of english classes or why Stephen Crane hears cannons roaring. We're not going to need to know who died in Ch. 9..... and what does that really have to do with the language anyways?
