Faerie Folk

     Always keep in mind when working or communicating with the Fae that you need to be careful. Some Fae act without conscience some with malicious intent. This is not a complete list of the Fae, and if you have a favourite Faerie I've not mentioned, please e-mail me and let me know and I will add them immediatley.

Bean-Tighe: [Ban-tee or Ban-Teeg] originated in Ireland. This faery is also called Our Housekeeper. It's element is Earth. Generally thought to look like small elderly women in old-fashioned peasent clothing, with kindly dimpled faces. They are very friendly to humans and wish to have a human household to look after. They are active all year, but most active between Samhain and Bealtaine. She is a faery housekeeper who can be found watching over children, hearths, and pets. They love fresh strawberries and cream. They are most likely to be found at your hearthside. To contact them, call out to one, leave your home open to her, and leave out her favourite foods. Even if one will not take up residence with you, she will offer her blessing to your home. They can help aid in protection of home, children, and pets, and aid in household chores. She can also help in human fertility spells.

Black Angus: originated in England and Scotland. Other names for this faery are Cu Sith, Gwn Annwn, or "Gabirel's Hounds". It's element is water. Black Angus is a large black dog with yellow eyes and sharp theeth. It is said he shows himself to those who will die within a fornight. This faery is active at night. Contact with this faery is not advised!

Buachailleen: [Book-al-leen] originated in Ireland and Scotland. Also known as The Herding Boys. The Buachailleen's element is water. They are small faeries who look like young men, who wear pointed red hats, which may be inverted flower caps. These faeries are excellent shapeshifters, and have mischievous natures that are almost mean and will often torment animals just for fun. The Buachailleen are most active in the summer. They are found in pastures in summer. Contact is unadvised.

Buggers: originated in England. Their element is air. These faeries are very dangerous to humans, but they never leave the astral world. These faeries are active all year. They are a type of gobblin. Contact is unadvised.

Buttery Sprites: originated in England. Also know as Buttery Spirits. Their elment is Earth. These faeries have never been seen, and they are only active at night. If they can be found it would be in an old abbey or inn.

Bwaganod: [Boo-kah-nohds] originated in Wales. Their element is water. These faries are goblins who can shapeshift. The Bwaganods do not like humans. They are most active at dusk. Contact with theese faries is not advised.

Bwbachs: [Boo-box] originated in Wales. Also known as Booakers, or Cottagers. Their element is Earth. Bwbachs are solitary house faeries who are mischievous. They are small, round, and wear large red hats and little loincloths These are always seen as males. They are active all year. Look for these faries in homes in faeryland, but it is not a good idea to invite them into your home. If you would like to meet one, make a simple ritual and invite them into your circle. You may want to use a bit of milk or cake for added inducement. These fae may possibly be able to help with home protection spells but they are very untrustworthy.

Bwciod: [Bu-key'd] originated in Wales. The Bwciod 's element is fire. He is solitary and moves so fast that he can barely be seen by human eyes. He is most active at night. If you meet a Bwciod on the inner planes try to get away as fast as possible and take care that he dosen't follow you home. Contact is not advised.

Churn Milk Peg and Melch Dick: originated in England. Also known as the Acorn Lady and Melsh Dick. Their element is Earth. They are small dwarf faeries. Peg is a female and Dick is a male. They wear the peasent clothing of 15th century England and have capricious natures. They are most active in spring through autumn. These faeries love nuts and will gaurd nuts and orchards. These faeries are found in the English countryside. To contact them, make an invintatiion to your circle, if you really want them around offer nuts and milk as an inducement.

Clurichauns: [kloo-ree-kahn] originated in Ireland, but are similar faeries, called Moniello, in Italy. The Clurichaun is also known as His Nibs, and it's element is Earth. The Clurichaun is a solitary faery. No sightings of females have ever been recorded. This faery gaurds wine cellers, and is almost always drunk. He is very well-groomed and well-dressed. This faery generaly has a cheerful disposition, but can be rather aloof even while intoxicated, and wears a red hat. These faeries are active all year round. If you ignore or mistreat him he will spoil your wine stock, but if treated with hospitality he will prevent casks from leaking and wine going bad and chase away all those who are uninvited. If you chase away a Clurichaun by insensitivity or lack of hospitality, no other will ever come to take his place. If it is your wish to atract a Clurichuan leave a bit of wine out for him or design a ritual to invite him in. You must have a collection of wine in your basement or am celler for him to be intrested in staying. He can aid in home protection against theives and vandals, and guards the wine.

Dinnshenchas: [Din-sheen-k'has] oiginated in Ireland and their element is Fire. they are dwarf faeries in the service of the goddess Aine, who is a cattle goddess and a protecetess of women. They guard cattle and shapeshift into any form to help avenge women harmed by menf. The Dinnshenchas is also and old collection of Irish stories. They are found in pastures, or at shrines to Anine which are found in her home county, Kilkenny. To contract them you may want you may want to try a ritual invocation at your circle or during spells for the protection of women. Design a ritual to contact Aine and draw her power into you.

Dracs: originated in France and are similar to the German the Nix. They are known as Draca in England wherethey are less well-known. Their element is Water. In their natural state as floating purple blobs on the surface of water. However, they are more often sseen in the form of a golden chalice of in a female humanid form. They are dangerous to approach and are active all year. They are not bound to live in water, but do seen to perfer it there. Sometimes they may be foun in damp, mossy caves and rocky outcroppings near bodies of water. Many are seen in the English Channel, but their original home was the Seine River, which had been their kingdom. They are always looking for human maless to take as mates. They lure them by appearing as beautiful women or a golden chalice. When an unsuspecting man reaches down to grab it, they drag him down to their kingdom. They are found in the waters of France and by the western sea in Faeryland. If you'd like to meet one, try making a call to one while in Faeryland at the western sea, or near a body of water. Do not get close enough to let one touch you.

Drakes: originated in England and their element is fire. Drakes have never been seen by a human, but they have been smelled. They are benevolent house spirits who will bless your hearth and multipyl and keep your firewood dry in exchange for living in your home. They are most active from nightfall until just past dawn. They are very kindly, and have never been known to react badly to human mistreatment. When they are not welcome, they simply leave. The one drawback is that they do not smell pleasent. Their odor has been described as a cross between rotten eggs and a dirty chicken coop (ewwww). They are found in wood piles, at hearthsides, and deep in woods with old trees and prefer rural areas. To contact them, invite them to your hearth. Leave food and provide warmth pect to keep them. If you have no fireplace in your home, then provide one in your astral home. Besides providing you with dry firewood,a Drake can lend energy to any spell done in the fireplace.

Dryads: originated in Celtic countries, but tree spirits and tree fairies are found thoughout the world. They are also known as Tree Spirits, Tree Ladies, Druidesses, Hamadryads, and in Gaelic Sidhe Draot, which means "Faery Druids". Their element is air, and they are tree dwelling spirits. They are playful and seem androgynous, but always refered to as female. They appear as enchanting wisps of pure light, sometimes lightly coloured in trees. They are active all year, but particulary at the Esbats (full moons). They perfer willow trees, but live in the 13 Celtic sacred trees. It is said the Dryads gave the Druids the secrets on tree magick and helped them in learning abut divination and astral travel. They are most often found in a grove of trees, in either the physical or astral realm. Also look for the Faery Triad of oak, ash, and thorn, or in rown, birch, and elder trees. To contact them, invite them to your circle and ask them to join you in you ritual. They often show up in the astral realm's circle when the spirits and guardians of the east are called. They are thought to be useful in human attempts to connect with deities if they are asked properly.

Duergarrs: [Doo-ay-gahrs] oringinated in England, thouugh the name is Franco-Spanish and my have been brought to England with the Norman conquest in 1066. Their element is Earth. They are malicious dwarf faeries who, like Trolls, prey on travelers. They wear lambskin jackets, moleskin shoes and green hats, and they stand just under two feet tall. They are very surly and dislike people. They are active all year and are solitaryfaeries who gurad faery paths and steer humans away from them. They are the self appointed guradian of the faery peoples. When they have no faery paths to gurad, they turn their vicious pranks on travelers. Two of their favourite past times are creating a confusing fork in the road and removing human directional signposts. They are, fortunatly, a nearly vanished race. They are found near faery paths all over Faeryland.

Ellyllons: originated in Cornwall and Wales and their element is water. Ellyllons are small inland lake fae, who transport themselves by riding on eggshells. They are active all year, particularly in the spring. These faeries are guradians of the domain of the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian myths. They live at the bottom of Dosmary Pool a lake in Cornwall, and are shielded by the illusion of water. You can find them in the Dosmary Pool in Cornwall and can help spiritual seekers contact the Goddess.

Elves: Elves are found worldwide, but each land has various different elf faeries which go by many names. The Germanic names of Elb, Erl, and Mannikin are very common. Their element is usually earth. They are usually small and chubby, but dress differently depending on what land they come from. Most are kind and beneficial to humans, and very few are actually dangerous. A general rule is, trooping Elves are good, and solitary Elves are bad. They are most active usually at night. They can sew and spin pretty well, and can spin gold from grain (like in Rumpelstiltskin). They have few enemies, but the most noted enemy is cats. Mice are their familiars, and have sometimes appeared disguised as mice. Elves are found in fields, homes, woodlands, and all over Faeryland. To contact them, invite them to your circle or home, leave out food or milk, and lock up the cat! Most can be asked to aid in home protection rites and help with the raising of energy for all types of spell and ritual work.

The Fachan: [Fah-kahn] originated in Scotland and also called Peg Leg Jack. It's element is air. The Highland faery has an extremely nasty disposition. It has one of everything (one head, one eye, one ear, one arm, one leg, one toe, etc.) all centered directly down the middle of his hairy and feathered body. He carries a spiked club in his hand which he swings as he chases away visitors from his home atop the highest Highland mountians. He is active all year and is jealous of flight. He hates all other living things and is a very solitary faery. He is found on the highest Highland mountains, but contact is not advised.

Fin Folk: originated in Scotland, Cornwall, and Wales. Also known as Sea Gardes, and the Lady's Own. Their element is water. They are anthropomorphic and have made it clear they wish to avoid humans, but they do not seem to wish us any harm. They are found under the lochs of Scotland, an easy to go in the astral plane. Approach them with caution.

Fir Darrigs: [Fear Durgs] originated in Ireland and possiably Scotland, they are also known as Rat Boys. Their element is water. They are fat, ugly fae, with dark, hairy skin long snouts and tails which give them a rat like appearance. they wear trn and shabby costumes that look as if they date around the Middle Ages. If you find one around, it is best to appear conciliatory and friednly until you can banish him. He is morbidly dangerous who like carrion and his shillelagh (Irish walking stick) is topped with a skull of unknown origin. They are most active during the winter months. They like to enjoy the heat near human hearths, but make their homes in damp raths or marshes near the sea. They are found around polluted coastlines, swamps, marshes, and in costal ruins. Contact is not advised.

Fireesin: [Fear-ee-sheen] originated on The Isle of Man and is also know as Farm Faeries and The Harvesters. Their element is earth. They are solitary fae who help farmers. They are nude covered in patches of brown, coarse hair, and are not ver physically appealing. They seem to want to be of service to humans, but are not very bright. They are most atcive during the spring, summr, and autum, and it is believed that they hibernate during winter. Do not express offense at their nudity unless you wish them to be hurt and offended and leave your service, and they wil not leave your service in peace, your crops could be devastated. They are found in fields that are either about to be cultivated or harvested. To contact them, watch for them to appear, and then ask them if you may approach as a friends.

Formorians: originated in Ireland and also known as The Formors. Their element is water. They are sea monsters, and are said to be the survivors of a faery race driven out of Ireland by the Tuatha De Danann. They have misshapen bodies and don not have arms of legs and have been seen occasionally on land. They are very ill-tempered and very stupid. They are active all year, especially at night. They are found at seashores, but contact is not advised.

Gancanagh: [Gon-cawn-ah] originated in Ireland and his element is air. In Scotland and Cornwall her is the Ganconer. He is a male faery who materializes in loney places and attempts to seduce human females, who will eventually die of love for him. He is active all year. He is rarely seen anymore. His trademark in an Irish clay pipe which he either holding in his hand, or has clenched in his teeth, but never actually smoking it. Faeries hate smoke and cannot inhale it at all. He most likely cannot be contacted.

Geancanach: [Gan-cahn-ock] originated in Ireland and the Hebrides of Scotland, it's element is fire. It is pixie-like in appearance, with huge eyes that curve upward on the ends with large pointed ears. They are always depicted as being very small, and having somewhat mischievous smiles. They have small wings which do not seem functioal, and apper to move from place to place by dematerializing and reappearing rapidly. They are active at night. They are guardians of home hearths. They are found around a blazing fire at your hearthside. To contact them, offer a simple evocation at your fireside, either physical or astral, with an offering of milk. They can help in guarding the flue opening and the house, and all things in the fire including fire-related spell work. Catch them in a serious mood to work successfully with them.

Ghillie Dhu: [Gillee Doo or Yoo] They originated in Scotland and their element is fire. Like the Irish Lesidhe, they are guardian tree spirits who are disguised as foliage and dislike human beings. Their name literally means "dark shoe". They are most active at night. It is said the Ghillie Dhu prefer birch trees to all others and jealousy guard them from humans. They are found in trees, especially birch trees. Contact is not advised.

Giants and Ogres: These fae occur worldwide, but they are most populous in the Yorkshire region of England and in the mountains of Eastern Europe. The one-eyed Giant or Ogre is also called a Cyclops. Their element is air. Giants look like humans, only the are much larger. Ogres are about the same size as humans, but have deformed faces, excessive body hair, and sometimes a hump n their backs. Ogres are usually unfriendly; Giants have been known to be both friendly and nasty. They are active all year. Ogers are pretty mch fearless, but Giants are terrified of cats. They are found in Faeryland. Many folk tales have reported them to live on clouds. Approach both of these fairies with extreme catuion when you find one to first ascertain his or her intent and mood.

Gitto: [Ghee-toes] They originated in Wales and are also called Grifftha nd Griffin; both of which are popular Welsh surnames. Also spelled Gryphon and Geetoe. Their element is air. Gittos have the heads of horses and the bodies of goats, but they have hman speech and laughter. Though they have no wings, they can fly for short distances. They do not like people. They are active all year, but most common at harvest time. They like to blight crops and claim for themselves all crops left in the feild after sundown on Samhain. they have an intensely malevont nature and would love to harm humans if given the opportunity They are found in feilds after sundown between Samhian and Bealtaine. Contact is not advised.

Glashtin: [Glosh-teen] They originated on The Isle of Man and possiably in the Outer Hebrides Islands of Scotland. Also known as Hawlaa, Howlies, and Howlers; their element is air. The Glashtin is a goblin who is half cow and half horse. If the head part is a cow, he is stupid; is the head part is a horse, he is shrewd and cuning. They are most active durning storms. They are found in the sky during a sever storm. Contact is not advised.

Gnomes: They seem to have originated all over Europe, but Scotland's Gnomes are most famous. Throughout Europe, each land has it's own name for the Gnome. In German they are called Drdmanleins, except for in the Alpine areas, where they are known as Heinzemannchens. In Sweden they are called Nisseh, an Nisse in Denmark and Norway. In Brittany they are called Nains. The Finns know them as Tontti and in Iceland they are the Foddenskkmaend. The Polish work for Gome is Gnom, but it is Djude in Bulgaria and Albania. In Hungrey, Yougolsavis, and Czechoslovakis, they are called Mano. The Dutch work is Kabouter,the Belgian is Skritek, adn in Switerland and Luexumbourg they are called Kleinmanneken which means "little men". In western Russia Gnomes are called Domovoi Djedoes, which roughly translated is "earth faery". Their element is Earth. They are dwarf faeries who appear to be rather old, this is because they mauture at an early age and their average life span is around a thousand years. They reach maturity around a hundred years, at which time they stand about 12 inches tall and appear well past middle age. They are both male and female, adults and children, wear old-fashioned peaseant costume, and are kind-hearted and will always aid sick or frightened animals. They are active all year, but are best found around autum in Faeryland. Gnomes live in deep ancient forests under old oak trees. Their main occupation is the protection and healing of wildlife, thought they may occasionally help a human along his of her spiritual path. They wear small point hats of red, their clothing is always green or blue, and they usually appear to be merry and kind. They like to wear rainbow coloured stockings and in general are very smart and clever. Married male Gnomes grow beards, and married women cover their hair.Their only known enemies are martens and some owls, and humans who encroah on their homes. You can contact them with a simple invintation. Gnomes can help you protect yourself and pets.

The Grant: Originated in England and it's element is Fire. The Grant looks something like a small, oddly-formed horse, though he walks erect. He warns humans of approaching trouble and is said to be very friendly. He is most acitive at sunset. Each Grant is attached to a particular English village, where he acts as a lookout and guardian. If there is approaching trouble he runs through the streests at sunset stirring up the dogs and horses. Sightings of the Grant are well documented. He was seen at sunset in many villages, and during WWII a few hamlets claimed they were warned by their Grant of apporaching air raids.

Gruagach: Originated in Scotland. Other names include Gruaghach, The Herdswoman, The Firesitter and her elemet is earth. She is a solitatry faery with and extremly grotesque apperance, but a heart of gold. She carries a shepherd's staff in her gnarled hands, and wears a gown usually green in colour, though it has been said to be made of cornsilk gold. She enjoys any brief human contact and will offer whatever help she can in your spiritual journey if you do not show fear or revulsion. She is most active in the summer during daylight hours. Gruagach is derived for the Gaelic word while means "hairy". This hair is part of her grotesque apperance. She is primarly a potectior of livestock, namely cattle. She is found in the pastures of Faeryland in the summer. To contact her go ask her for advice or assistance. Be direct, she has a very limited attention span. She can aid in spiritual quests and in guarding herds. She will also lend considerable magickal energy to your spells for human, animal,or plant fertility.

Gwragedd Annwn: [Gwergeth Ai-noon] Originated in Wales and their element is water. These fae are beautiful blonde water faeries who love children and are helpful to human mothers, children, and the poor. They are human in size and female only. They are active all year. They live in and near the lakes of the Black Mountians of Wales. Though they help women and children, they seem unintereseted in males ecept occasionally to mate. They are very temermaental and easily offened. These fae love dancing and have been seen dancing under the full moon. They are a very old group of faeries. The marriages between these fae and the men they seem to take seem to be generally happy, and the offspring of such unions are gifted in music. They make loyal, if somewhat distant wives and are excellent mothers. To contact them go the the Black Mountains, eaither physically or astrally, and seek them out. Approach with caution. They can aid in protection spells of women and children and can even be called on to be temporary guardians in time of great need.

Gwyllions: Originated in Wales and their element is fire. llions are mountain dwellers who care for the wild goats of Wales and are rarely seen. They dislike humans, whom they see as arrogant, and so they keep their distance. They are active all year. It is said they once had the power of flight, why this was lost is a mystert to us. The females are nocturnal and it is believed that exposure to sunlight may kill them. They fear storms and knives. They cannot be contacted.

Heather Pixies: Originated in Scotland and the Yorkshire region of northern England. They are also called Moon Sprites and their element is either earth or air. Like other pixies, Heather Pixies have clear or golden auras and delicate, translucen wings. These fae are specifcally atracted to the moors and to the heather that covers them. They are not adverse to human contact, but do not seek us out.They have a rather pranksterish nature. They are active all year. According to Scottish faery lore they enjoy spinning flax. They are found in feilds of heather, or on the moors of the Scottish Lowlands. To contact them approach slowly and let them know you wish to befriend them.

Hobgoblin: Originated in England and Germany where they are known as Gobelins. they are also known as Hobgobs, Goblins, Hob-trush, billeeboinkers, Bolblins, Gooseys, Scotthish Hobgoblins are often called brags and they are excellent shapeshifters. Their element is earth. Their appearance can vary greatly, escecailly since it is now used as a generic term for evil faery. Some appear as dark looking blobs, others as mean looking elves. The most active time varies. Contact is not advised.

Hyters: [High-ters] Originated in England and possiably Spain. Their element is air. They are shapeshifters who appear as birds. They are not predisposed to showing kindness to humans, hough they have never harmed anyone. They are most active in the late afternoon and early evening. They have been known to gather in groups and buzz humans for the sheer joy of frightening them. They favour appearing as scavenger birds suchas the buzzard or vulture. They are found in the skies of Faeryland just before sunset. Contact is not advised, you can however, sit at a safe distance and watch them.

Irish Sea Water Guardians: Originated on The Isle of Man, though water gaurdains are known throughout the world. Also known as Sea Sprites, Manx Undines, and Undines; their elemen is obviously water. These Manx sea guardians are very small, only a few a inches high, that guard the Irish Sea and are beloved of the sea god Manann. They are both male and females and beautiful to see. A green-blue arura of light is said to dance around them. They are fiercly protective, but are still disposed to help all living things in need on the sea if they are specifcally asked to do so. They are active all year. They are found in the Irish Sea off the coast of Man. To contact them call them to you while in the sea surrounding the Isle of Man, a place which can be visited on the inner planes. As them to lend their energies to safe travel spells over water, to aid sailors in ned, to work for marine eviromentalism, and to help in petitioning the god Manann.

Kelpies: Orignatied in Scotland; Irish Kelpies are called Uisges (Ech-ooshk-ya) or Fuath (Foo-ah), and the r also a part of northern Irish faery lore. A Cornish Kelpie is called a Shoney, derived for the NOrse nameSjofn, a goddess of the sea. In Iceland they are known as Nickers, which are simiarl to the Nix, the water sprites of Germany. In the Shetland and Orkney Islands they are called Nuggies. Their element is water. Kelpies are rarely seen anymore, they are small, bulbous-shaped faeries with huge teeth and pointed ears. They are sly, stupid, and extermly foul-tempered. These cannibalistic fae onces desnly populated the North sea and all the lochs of Scotland. Contact is not advised.

The Lady of the Lake: Originated in Cornwall and Wales, her element is water. The Lady of the Lake is part of the Arthurian myths. Her arm, holding the sword Excalibur, is most frequently seen by human eyes. She is active all year. The Lady of the Lake lives in Dosmary Poll, a lake in Cornwall. She is the woamn who gave Arthur his famous sword Excalibur and to whom it was returned upon his death. Many pagans and mythologists have speculated on whether this Lady is really a Mother or Maiden goddess-form. Underneath the Dosmary Pool she is said to rule over a magnificent and wealthy faery kingdom forever shielded form humans by the illusion of water. She is found in Dosmary Pool, an easy trip on the inner planes. To contact her try making and invocation to herould make to a goddess. She can help direct you alon your spiritual pathway. LIsten for her messages to come telepathically. If you actually see her arm ries from the Dosmary Pool, consider yourself highly favoured.

Leanansidhe: [Lan-awn-shee] Originated on The Isle of Man, there is said to be only one of her and she has migrated to Ireland's eastern coast. A similar faery of Hebrew legend is called Estrie. Her element is water. The Leanansidhe is a beautiful female vampire faery. She is said to give inspiration to poets, but the reward for her services is death, or at best, captivity in her kingdom. She is active all year. She lives under the rish Sea off the easter coast of Ireland. Like all vampires, she is a blood-sucker. Ratehr than drinking the blood of her victims, she collects it in a huge red cauldron which is said to be the source of her beauty and powers of poetic inspiration. This may connect her with the Celtic crone goddess who presided over the great cauldron of life, death, and rebirth. Contact is not advised.

Leprechauns: [Lep-rah-kahn] Originated in Ireland, though treasure hording faeries appear all over Europe, all similar in appearance. They are also called The Gentry and their element is Earth. The Leprechaun is a solitary faery and a trickster who loves to play pranks on the humans he meets. He always appears as a male, and no sighting of a female has ever been recorded. They are always seen wearing green clothing of costly material and green tr-coloured hats. They are mischievous, but helpful to humans if approached with respect. They are very quick-witted unless drunk. They are active all year. He gaourd the pot of gold, which is a cauldron associated with the crone goddess. If one can gain control of one of these fae, one can have the cauldron, and three wishes along with it. They are shoemakers by trade, but their clientele is limited to the faery world and they only work on one shoe, never a pair. They generally keep to themselves, unless there is a part, in which case they get very drunk and become very social. Musc, dancing, fox hunting, and drinking Irish whiskey are said to be their favourite pastimes. They love to dance an are attached to the folk music of their land. They are found in the physical; try seeking them in large grassy hills. You will have a better chance of finding them seeking in Faeryland as they rarely come to earthly plane anymore. They will not respond to any known envocations or invitations. Leprechanuns can help guide you to the cauldron, or crock of gold, which symbolizes the spiritual attainment. In this it is not unlike the Grail quests of Arthurian tradition. Bacause of their long association with gold, they may be able to aid in prosperity spells. They can also be presuaded to look after your finer horses.

Lesidhe: [Lay-shee] Originated in Ireland and India. In Salvic lands they are known as Leshes and in Russin as Zuibotschniks (Zoo-botch-nicks), whose cries are audible and who appear to travel in a small whirlwind. A similar faery in Germany is called a Leshiye and can assume the shape of an owl or a wolf. In Fussian this faery is called a Vodyaniye and loves to drink. Their element is air. The Lesidhe is a gardian of the forests who is always disguised as foliage. They appear to be androynous and, even though they are usulla found in groups, they seem to have little to do with each other. They are classified as solitaries ratehr than trooping faeries. Unless they get up and walk, it is hard to distinguish them from the green plants and trees they hide among. They are most active in the spring and summer, especially at dawn and dusk. They are active by day and night, but seem to prefer being nocturnal. All recorded reports of contact with them have all been unfavourable. Though no Lesidhe has ever harmed anyone, their pranks are nasty, usually involvintrying to lose people in deep woods. Caution is advised when attempting to approach a Lesidhe. In th physical and astral world go to a wild wood and wait until you see a movement in the foliage. To contact, while in the protection of a circle call to them and explain what you would have them do, then wait and see what sort of respone you get. However, contacting them is not wise practice. Use extreme caution. the might possiably be presuaded to aid in magick and ritual to aid the planet and te enviroment.

Lob: Originated in Wales, and possibly Germany or England. His element is air. The Lob is a small dark blob that looks rather like a rain cloud with arms who spends all his time deciding how he can make the most trouble. Fortunatly, he is lazy and rarely carries through with his ideas, though he delight in human misery. He may be most active at night. the Lob is a goblin, and is attracted to ugly, raw emotions and to arguments and fighting. Occasianlly psychich persons have reported seeing a little "black thing" whnever they have been at teh scene of an argument, fight, or wherever a build-upof negative emotions is present. They are most likely to be found wherever there is human discord or violence. Contact is not advised.

Lunantisidhe: [Loo-nan-tee-shee] Originated in Ireland and possibly ancient Rome. Their element is air, and they are thin and wizened in appearance and look like small, bald, old men. They have pointed ears and long teeth, and long arms and fingers. They are found in groups, but they are neither trooping nor solitary. They are said to hate humans with a violent passion. They are most active at night. Lunantisidhe is an odd blending of the Latin word meaning "moon", and the Gaelic sidhe which means "faey". Their sole puropse for existing seems to be protection of the blackthorn trees. The only time they leave the tree is to pay homage to the moon goddess at the Esbats.

Lutins: Originated in France and are also known as Follet. Their element is air. The Lutins are excellent shapeshifters ad have not held one form long enough for any human to characterise their appearance. they are very capricious, useful one minute, destructive the next. They are active all year. They move form place to place with a little flash of light. They are usually benign in their intentions toward humans, but they have such changeable tempers prolonged contact is not advised. It is unknown where to find them because they change homes very often.

Ly Erg: Originated in Scotland, and he shares some common traits with the Beanshidhe, the Erlkonig, and theFylgiar. His element is water. There is only one Ly Erg, he dresses like a soldier and can only be distinguished from a real one is by his small size and his red right hand. The Ly Erg is seen as a portent of death, but this is one with whom you may have a second chance at life. It is reported that he will stop his mark on a road or path and challenge you with a raising of his red right hand. The best thing to do is retreat, because if you allow him to engage you in combat, you will die within a forenight. He is found on lonely roadsides near water. Since there have been any reports of him in many years, the only place to fine him would be in Faeryland. Contact is not advised.

Mal-de-Mer: Originated in Cornwall and Brittany and their element is water. No Mal-de-Mer has been described as being seen by a human. They live in the sea near Cornwall and Brittany and prey on ships. They are most active at night during storms. Mal-de-Mar is a French term meaning "evil of the sea". It is unknown where to find them or how to contact them.

Murdhuachas: [Mer-oo-khas] Orignated in Ireland and also known as the Walrus People, and Sea Cows, their element is water. Murdhuachas are one of several races of Irish sea faeries, and are often mistaken for Merpeople (Mermaids and Mermen). Like them they have fish-like lower bodies, but rather than having humanoidupper bodies, they have upper bodies and heads of other mammals. Their tempermane is ambivalent. They are most active at dawn and dusk. They are never seen in the Irish Sea, only in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast. They are found at seasides, espcially near rocky shores. Contact is not advised.

The Oak King: Originated in Europe and also called Robin Redman, and King of the Waxing Year. His element is earth. He is usually depicted as wearing a small breech cloth and crown of oak leaves and acorns. In his right hand he carries a staff of oak wood. He is most active from Yule to Midsummer. He exists in the pagan lore of Europe as something more than a faery, but less than a god. He is the king of the waxing year. From Midsummer to Yule the Holly King rules, the king of the waning year. From Yule to Midsummer the Oak King reigns, taking over the mantle of rulership from the Holly King. The Oak King shares many similarites with the pagan Horned God of Europe. Look for him in Faeryland and sense his presecne at the Yule and Midsummer Sabbats. His spirit can be called to your circle at those times. This is one faery you should not fear inviting into you circle space. To contact try making an invocation to him at Yule and Middsummer Sabbats. Magicakl and Ritual help he can lend is undetermined, but if he is a god-form, then he may aid you in your spiritual quests. Seek an audience with him in Faeryland.

Phookas: [Pook-ahs] Originated in Ireland, Wales, and Scandinavia. It is possible the Phooka was a Nordic faery brought to Ireland, where it retains it's strongest idenification. They are known as Kornbockes in Scandinavia, where they have bodies of goats, Bookhas or Bwcas in Wales where they have bodies of horses o and a more pranksterish nature. Their element is air. Phookas are the Hobgoblins of Ireland. They have heads resembling human males, but the bodies of horses. They can fly for limited distances, but they have no wings. Phookas are trouping faeries who run in destructive paths. They are most active from Sahhain to Beltaine, especially at night. Their favourite pastime is reaking havoc and they will go out of their was to harm children and crops. Contact is not advised.
