Comte René Henri Potier de la Morandière died at Paris on 21 May.

[He was born at Paris on 28 October 1928, son of Comte Louis Nicolas Potier de la Morandière and of his wife, née Claire Marie Marthe de Vogüé (herself the daughter of Louis Antoine Melchior, Marquis de Vogüé, and of his wife, née Princess and Duchess Louise Marie Charlotte d'Arenberg). Since 1956 he had been married to Guillemette Jeanne Bernadette Thérèse Morel, and is survived by her and their three children.] (added 23 May 2008)

BENTHEIM-STEINFURT

Hereditary Prince Carl Ferdinand zu Bentheim und Steinfurt (son of Prince Reinhard zu Bentheim und Steinfurt and of his wife, née Angelica Emmermann) and his wife, née Elna-Margret Rinn (daughter of Manfred Rinn and Brigitte Renate Strauss) had their first child, Jonathan Alexei Victor, at Münster on 24 December. Baron Karel Jan André Collot d'Escury died at Kloosterzande on 17 June.

Maximilian Ludwig Gustav Gert Hugo Kurt Dietz Eberhard Freiherr von Lerchenfeld died on 8 January.

Prince Carl-Alfred von Croy died on 15 January.

[He was born at Marienloh on 4 March 1924, son of Prince Anton Prosper Clemens von Croy and of his first wife, née Rosalie von Heyden-Linden. Since 1952 he had been married to Huberta Freiin von Wolff Metternich. They had no children, but he had adopted his nephew, Nikolaus Engelbert Albert Johannes Graf von Schmettau, who has taken the name “Prinz von Croy”.] (added 20 Jan 2008)

Prince Georg zu Fürstenberg died on 7 January.

From 1960 to 1965 he had been married to Christina Gráfin von Colloredo-Mannsfeld; from 1978 to 1997 he had been married to Victoria Taves Pullen. Maria Josepha Gräfin von Hardenberg, née Princess zu Fürstenberg, died on 7 July.

Johann Aloys Graf Lexa von Aehrenathal died on 19 May.

Peter Freiherr von Kap-herr (b.Gleiwitz on 22 August 1934) died on 11 February. Since 1970 he had been married to Princess Eleonore zu Hohenlohe-Jagstberg (daughter of Albrecht Fürst zu Hohenlohe-Jagstberg and of his wife, née Therese Gräfin von Geldern-Egmont). [She was born at Munich on 12 March 1923, daughter of Eugen Fürst zu Oettingen-Oettingen und Oettingen-Wallerstein and of his wife, née Princess Maria Anna zu Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst, von Ratibor und Corvey. Alice Baronin Ricciardi, née Gräfin von Platen Hallermund, died at Cortona on 23 February.

Alexandra Freifrau von Herman, née Princess zu Salm-Horstmar, Wild- u.Rheingräfin, died on 5 November.

Prince Botho zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein died on 27 January.

[He was born at Eisenach on 16 February 1927, son of Prince Georg zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein and of his wife, née Marie Rühm, who was created Freifrau von Freusburg. He was born Freiherr von Freusburg, but since 1946/7 was accorded the title of Prince. Since 1957 he had been married to Elisabeth Freiin von Zedlitz une Leipe. SCHAESBERG

Petrus Graf von Schaesberg (b.Munich 1967, son of Heinrich Graf von Schaesberg and of his wife, née Princess Margarethe von Croy) died in New York on 22 September, according to his family. He was a professor of art history at Columbia University. (added 8 Oct 2008)

SCHÖNBURG-GLAUCHAU

Josef Ferdinand Graf von Oppersdorff died at Munich on 8 July.

Princess Maria Julia von Thurn und Taxis, née Princess von Lobkowicz, died on 19 May.

[She was born at Prague on 25 February 1919, daughter of Prince Leopold von Lobkowicz and of his wife, née Princess Franziska von Montenuovo. In 1939 she married Prince Johann von Thurn und Taxis (1908-1959), son of Prince Erich Lamoral von Thurn und Taxis and of his wife, née Gabriele Gräfin Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau. Maria Luisa Fürstin zu Windisch-Grätz, née Serra di Gerace, died at Rome on 15 October. She had been born in 1921 and married in 1946 Maximilian Fürst zu Windisch-Grätz (1914-1976). She is survived by their four children. (added 20 Oct 2008)
