Archduke Philipp of Austria (b.Zürich 16 October 1962, son of  Archduke Heinrich of Austria and of his wife, née Ludmila Gräfin von Galen) married Mayasuni A. Heath (daughter of Carolyn Heath, of Torquay, Devon) at Maria Plain, Salzburg, on 11 February. (added 11 Feb 2006)

Theodora Gräfin von Goëß, née Gräfin Kottulinsky, died at Ebenthal on 13 January, three weeks after her husband, who died at Ebenthal on 25 December 2005.

Eugenio Ereñu Orlandis (son of Juan Ereñu Ferreira and of his wife, née Blanca Maria Orlandis y Habsburgo [herself the daughter of Ramon Orlandis y Villalonga and of his wife, née Archduchess Maria Antonia of Austria]) married Ceferina Fernández González (daughter of Ceferino Fernández and of Luzdivina González) at Ibiza on 18 May. I had seen a previous announcement that they married on 3 February 2006, but a communication from him says that they married only in May. (updated 27 May 2006)

Archduke Martin of Austria (son of Archduke Robert of Austria-Este and of his wife, Princess Margherita of Savoy) and his wife, née Princess Katharina zu Isenburg  (daughter of Franz Alexander Fürst zu Isenburg and of his wife, née Christine Gräfin von Saurma, Freiin von und zu der Jeltsch) had their first child, Bartholomäus Karl Robert, at Pavia on 27 July. Alessandro Pavone and his wife, née Leopoldina Tasso de Saxe-Coburgo e Bragança (daughter of Carl-Eduard Tasso de Saxe-Coburgo e Braganca [himself the son of Lamoral Freiherr Taxis di Bordogna e Valnigra and of his wife, Princess Theresia of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha] and of his wife, née Archduchess Walburga of Austria [herself the daughter of Archduke Georg of Austria and of his wife, née Marie Valerie Gräfin von Waldburg zu Zeil und Trauchburg]) became parents of a son, Eduardo, born at the Portland Hospital, London, on 3 August. Hereditary Prince Bernhard of Baden (son of Margrave Max of Baden and of his wife, Archduchess Valerie of Austria) and his wife, née Stephanie Kaul, had their third son, Karl-Wilhelm Bernhard Max Alexander Ernst-August Heinrich-Donatus Mathias, at Ravensburg on 11 February. (updated 11 May 2006)

BAVARIA

Maximilian Fischer-Stabauer and his wife, née Nathalie Gräfin Kornis von Göncz-Ruszka (daughter of Thomas Graf Kornis von Göncz-Ruszka and of his wife, née Princess Maria-Theresia of Bavaria [herself the daughter of Prince Rasso of Bavaria and of his wife, Archduchess Theresia of Austria]) had their first child, Ferdinand, on 28 January. BULGARIA

Jorge Champalimaud Raposo de Magalhães and his wife, née Alexandra-Nadejda Chrobok (daughter of Bronislaw Chrobok and of his wife, Princess Maria Luisa of Bulgaria) had their second child, Giovanna, in Lisbon on 27 November. (updated 30 Nov 2006)

Antonio Muñoz Valcárcel (known as Kitín Muñoz) and his wife, née Princess Kalina of Bulgaria (only daughter of King Simeon of Bulgaria and his wife, née Margarita Gómez-Acebo y Cejuela) are expecting their first child in early 2007. (added 25 Oct 2006)


DENMARK

Carl Frederik Anton Jørgen Castenskiold died on 14 April.

[He was born at Kongstedlund on 13 November 1923, son of Jørgen Castenskiold and of his wife, née Princess Dagmar of Denmark (herself the daughter of King Frederik VIII of Denmark and of his wife, née Princess Luise of Sweden). He was married three times: 1stly, from 1948 to 1963, to Bente Grevenkop-Castenskiold; 2ndly, from 1963 to 1969, to Else Albrechtsen; and 3rdly, from 1973, to Maja Tegner Fabricius, who died in 2003. He is survived by two sons and a daughter from the first marriage, and three grandchildren.] (added 21 Apr 2006) 

Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark (son of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and of her husband, Prince Henrik [born Henri de Laborde de Monpezat]) and his wife, née Mary Donaldson (daughter of Professor John Dalgleish Donaldson and his first wife Henrietta Clark) are expecting their second child in May, 2007. FRANCE (BOURBON)

Luis Alfonso de Borbón y Martinez-Bordiu, Duc d'Anjou (son of Alfonso de Borbón, Duque de Cádiz, Duc d'Anjou et de Bourbon, and of his wife, née Carmen Martinez-Bordiú y Franco), and his wife, née María Margarita Vargas Santaella are expecting their first child in spring 2007. FRANCE (ORLÉANS)

Alexandre de Sambucy de Sorgue (son of François-Xavier de Sambucy de Sorgue and of his wife, Princess Jeanne-Chantal d'Orléans) and Anne-Cécile Berteau, whose engagement was announced in 2004, were married in a civil ceremony at Paris on 17 June, to be followed by a religious ceremony at the Abbaye de Montmajour, Arles, on 8 July. Princess Claude d’Orléans (daughter of the late Prince Henri d’Orléans, Comte de Paris, and of his wife, née Princess Isabelle d’Orléans-Braganza) married Enrico Gandolfi near Milan on 14 June. She was formerly married, firstly, to Prince Amedeo of Savoy, Duca di Aosta, and, secondly, to Arnaldo La Cagnina. (added 3 Jul 2006)

Antoine Stevenson married Kildine de Sambucy de Sorgue (daughter of François-Xavier de Sambucy de Sorgue and of his wife, Princess Jeanne-Chantal d'Orléans) in a civil ceremony at Paris on 3 June, followed by a religious ceremony at Paray-le-Monial on 8 September. (updated 1 Oct 2006)

 

GREAT BRITAIN and NORTHERN IRELAND

Hon. Mrs. Gerald Lascelles, née Elizabeth Evelyn Collingwood, died in France on 14 January.
[She was born at Wimbledon on 23 April 1924, daughter of Brigadier Sydney Collingwood and of his first wife, née Charlotte Annie Oughterson. In 1978 she married, as his second wife, Hon. Gerald David Lascelles (son of Henry Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood, and of his wife, née Mary, Princess Royal of Great Britain and Northern Ireland [herself the daughter of King George V of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of his wife, née Princess Mary of Teck]). He died in 1998. The couple had already become the parents of a son, Martin, born in 1962.] (added 18 Jan 2006)

Lord Nicholas Windsor (son of Prince Edward of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Duke of Kent, and of his wife, née Katharine Worsley) married Paola Doimi de Frankopan (daughter of Don Louis and Donna Ingrid Doimi de Frankopan) in a civil ceremony in London on 19 October. A religious wedding followed on 4 November at the Church of Santo Stefano degli Abissini at the Vatican. (updated 5 Nov 2006)

Richard James Christopher Bland (elder son of Godfrey Hamilton Bland and of his wife, née Olga Mary Hohler [herself the daughter of Edward Hohler and of his wife, née Jane Lane (herself the daughter of Robert Charlton Lane and of his wife, née Olga Fitzgeorge [whose father was a morganatic son of Prince George of Great Britain, Ireland and Hannover, Duke of Cambridge])]), and his wife, née Eleanor Mary Townsend (daughter of John Richard Townsend and of his wife, née Lady Juliet Smith [herself the daughter of the second Earl of Birkenhead]) had their first child, Frederick Robin James, on 15 September. HANNOVER

Prince Georg Wilhelm of Hannover, born Prince of Great Britain and Ireland, died at Munich on 8 January.
[He was born at Bruanschweig on 25 March 1915, son of Prince Ernst August of Hannover, Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg, Prince of Great Britain and Ireland (himself the son of Crown Prince Ernst August of Hannover and of his wife, née Princess Thyra of Denmark), and of his wife, née Princess Viktoria Luise of Prussia (herself the daughter of Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany and of his wife, née Princess Auguste Viktoria of Schleswig-Holstein). His family were stripped of their British titles by the British Crown during the First World War but continued to feature them as their hereditary titles. In 1946 he married Princess Sophie of Greece and Denmark (daughter of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and of his wife, née Princess Alice of Battenberg, and widow of Prince Christoph of Hesse). They had two sons and a daughter. One son, Prince Welf, died in 1981.] (added 12 Jan 2006)
 

HESSE

Prince Philipp of Hesse (son of Landgrave Moritz of Hesse and of his wife, née Princess Tatjana zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg) married Laetitia Bechtolf in a religious ceremony at Panker on 10 June. The civil ceremony reportedly took place at Hamburg on 5 May. (added 11 Jun 2006)

 

HOHENZOLLERN

Josephine Gräfin von Posadowsky-Wehner, née Princess von Hohenzollern, died at Andernach on 11 July.

[She was born at Burg Namedy on 15 February 1922, daughter of Prince Albrecht von Hohenzollern (himself the son of Prince Karl Anton von Hohenzollern and of his wife, née Princess Josephine of Belgium) and of his wife, née Ilse Margot von Friedeburg. In 1967 she married Harald Graf von Posadowsky-Wehner (1910-1990), son of Harry Graf von Posadowsky-Wehner and of his wife, née Erika von Witzleben-Normann.] (added 17 Jul 2006)

Maria Margarethe, Duchess of Mecklenburg, née Princess von Hohenzollern, died at Hechingen on 4 August.

[She was born at Sigmaringen on 2 January 1928, daughter of Prince Franz Joseph von Hohenzollern-Emden (himself the son of Wilhelm Fürst von Hohenzollern [himself the son of Leopold Fürst von Hohenzollern and of his wife, née Infanta Antonia of Portugal] and of his first wife, née Princess Maria Teresa of Bourbon-Two Sicilies [herself the daughter of Prince Lodovico of Bourbon-Two Sicilies and of his wife, née Duchess Mathilde in Bavaria]) and of his wife, née Princess Maria Alix of Saxony (herself the daughter of King Friedrich August III of Saxony [himself the son of King Georg of Saxony and of his wife, née Infanta Maria Anna of Portugal] and of his wife, née Archduchess Luisa of Austria [herself the daughter of Grand Duke Ferdinando IV of Tuscany and of his second wife, née Princess Alicia of Bourbon-Parma]). In 1965 (religious wedding 1966) she married Duke Karl Gregor of Mecklenburg, who survives her. He was born in 1933, son of Duke Georg Alexander of Mecklenburg, né Graf von Carlow (himself the son of Duke Georg Alexander of Mecklenburg-Strelitz [himself the son of Duke Georg of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and of his wife, née Grand Duchess Catherine of Russia] and of his wife, née Natalia Vanljarskaya, later Gräfin von Carlow), and of his wife, née Irina Raievskya.] (added 8 Aug 2006)

Prince Emanuele Filberto of Savoy, Prince of Piedmont and Prince of Venice (b.22 July 1972, only child of Prince Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy, Crown Prince of Italy [himself the only son of the late King Umberto II of Italy] and of his wife, née Marina Doria) and his wife, née Clotilde Courau (born at Levallois-Perret 3 Apr 1969, daughter of Jean Claude Courau and of his wife, née Cathérine du Pontavice de Renardières) had their second child, Luisa Giovanna Agata Gavina Bianca Maria, at Geneva on 16 August. The engagement was announced between Prince Aimone of Savoy, Duca di Apulia (son of Prince Amedeo of Savoy, Duca di Aosta, and of first his wife, née Princess Claude d'Orléans) and Princess Olga of Greece (daughter of Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark and of his wife, née Marina Karella). The wedding date had been variously reported as 1 and 8 October, 2005, and more recently had been reported to me as being set for 9 October 2005 on the Isle of Patmos, but is still unconfirmed as of October 2006. A still later report from a correspondent is to the effect that the wedding has been postponed to 2007. (updated 5 Sep 2006)

Olivier Janssens and his wife, née Marie Elisabeth Zellinger de Balkany (daughter of Princess Maria Gabriella of Savoy and of her former husband, Robert Zellinger de Balkany) had their second child, Tommaso, at Geneva on 13 January. (updated 10 Mar 2006)

Conte Guglielmo Guarienti di Brenzone died at San Vigilio on 4 Septmber.

[He was born at Verona on 14 February 1919, son of Conte Bortolo Guarienti di Brenzone and of his wife, née Elena Mallegori. In 1947 he married Vittoria Calvi di Bergolo (1927-1985), daughter of Conte Carlo Giorgio Calvi di Bergolo and of his wife, née Princess Jolanda of Savoy (herself the daughter of King Vittorio Emanuele III of Italy and of his wife, née Princess Elena of Montenegro). LIECHTENSTEIN

Franziska Gräfin vn Spee, née Princess von und zu Liechtenstein, died on 23 April.

[She was born at Hollenegg on 14 June 1930, daughter of Prince Karl Aloys von und zu Liechtenstein and of his wife, née Princess Elisabeth von Urach. In 1965 she married Rochus Graf von Spee (1925-1981), son of StephanGraf von Spee and of his wife, née Anna Maria Freiin von Wrede. She is survived by their three children.] (added 28 Apr 2006)

Mark Andreas Graf von Rietberg (son of Christoph Graf von Rietberg [himself the son of Prince Ferdinand of Liechtenstein and of his wife, Shelagh Gräfin von Rietberg, née Brunner] and of his wife, née Kathleen Hamilton Mahan) and his wife, née Rachel Catherine McLaren, had their second child, Rowan Christopher, at Kingston-upon-Thames on 19 June. Prince Wilhelm von und zu Liechtenstein died on 27 November.

[He was born at Frauenthal on 29 May 1922, son of Prince Karl Aloys von und zu Liechtenstein and of his wife, née Princess Elisabeth von Urach. He renounced his title in 1950 and took the title Graf von Hohenau; however, he was restored to his title in 1980. In 1950 he married Emma von Gutmannsthal-Benvenuti (1926-1984). Prince Louis of Luxemburg (third son of Grand Duke Henri of Luxemburg and of his wife, née Maria Teresa Mestre) and his girlfriend, Tessy Antony, became the parents of a son, Gabriel, on 12 March. The couple married at Gilsdorf Church, near Luxemburg, on 29 September. (updated 30 Sep 2006)
 

NETHERLANDS

Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands (youngest son of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands) and his wife, née Petra Laurentien Brinkhorst, had their third child, Leonore Marie Irene Enrica, Gravin van Oranje-Nassau, Jonkvrouw van Amsberg, at the Bronovo Hospital at the Hague, on 3 June. Prince Johan Friso of Orange-Nassau, formerly Prince of the Netherlands (b.Utrecht 25 Sep 1968, second son of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and of her husband, the late Prince Claue) and his wife, née Mabel Wisse Smit (b.Pijnacker 11 Aug 1968, daughter of Hendrik Cornelis Los and of his wife, née Florence Malde Gijsberdina Kooman [who remarried, as a widow, Peter Wisse Wisse Smit]) had their second child, Joanna Zaria Nicoline Milou, on 18 June. Prince Pieter Christiaan of Orange-Nassau, van Vollenhoven (son of Pieter van Vollenhoven and of his wife, Princess Margriet of the Netherlands) and his wife, née Anita Theodora van Eijk (second daughter of L.A. van Eijk and of Mrs J.C.M. van Eijk-Steens), had their first child, Emma Francisca Catharina, at Amsterdam on 28 November. Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands (eldest son of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and of her late husband, Prince Claus) and his wife, née Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti, are expecting their third child, in 2007. (added 26 Sep 2006)

Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia died at Mallorca on 19 June.

[He was born at Klein-Glienicke on 13 March 1919, son of Prince Friedrich Sigismund of Prussia and of his wife, née Princess     Marie Luise zu Schaumburg-Lippe. In 1961 he married Lady Hermione Stuart (1925-1969), daughter of Archinbald John Morton Stuart, 19th Earl of Moray, and of his wife, née Mabel Helen Maud Wilson. From 1974 to 1978 he was married to Adelheid von Bockum gen. Dolffs, daughter of Florens von Bockum gen. Dolffs and of his wife, née Ursula von Krause. He had no children.] (added 24 Jun 2006)

Warren Nash (son of Mr and Mrs David Nash of London) married Antonia Emma Elisabeth Coleman (elder daughter of the late Bishop Peter Coleman and of his wife, née Princess Elisabeth-Donata Reuss [herself the daughter of Prince Heinrich XXXIX Reuss and of his wife, née Antonia Gräfin zu Castell-Castell]) at West Bagborough, Somerset, on 14 October. ROMANIA

Mircea Gregor Carol Lambrino, or Hohenzollern, died in London on 27 January.
[He was born at Bucharest on 8 January 1920, son of King Carol II of Romania and of his first wife, Zizi Lambrino. His parents' marriage had been annulled before his birth, and he was not accorded royal titles or a place in the succession. He was married three times: from 1944 to 1960 to Hélène Nagavitzine; from 1960 to 1977 to Thelma Jeanne Williams; and from 1984 to Antonia Colville. He had one son, Paul (b.1948) from the first marriage, and one son, Alexander (b.1961), from the second.] (added 29 Jan 2006)

Mrs Nancy Wynkoop, née Leeds, died on 7 June at Woodstock, Vermont.

[She was born at New York on 4 February 1925, daughter of William Bateman Leeds and of his wife, née Princess Xenia of Russia (herself the daughter of Grand Duke George of Russia and of his wife, née Princess Marie of Greece and Denmark). In 1945 she married Edward Wynkoop, with whom she had one daughter, Alexandra.] (added 10 Jun 2006)

Nicholas Mathew (son of Thomas Mathew and of his wife, Princess Olga Romanov [herself the daughter of Prince Andrei Alexandrovich of Russia and of his second wife, née Nadine McDougall]) and his wife, née Judith Aird, had their second child, a daughter, on 10 July. The names of the two children are unknown to me (added 2 Aug 2006)

Alexander James Amherst Burnett of Leys (b.1973, elder son of James Comyn Amherst Burnett of Leys and of his wife, née Fiona Mercedes Phillips [herself the daughter of Harold Phillips and of his wife, née Georgina Wernher (herself the daughter of Sir Harold Wernher, Bt., and of his wife, Countess Anastasia de Torby [herself the daughter of Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia and of his wife, Sophia Gräfin von Merenberg, Countess de Torby])]) and his wife, née Lavinia Margaret Cox, had their first child, Amaryllis Susan Rohays, on 24 November. Mrs. Lester Armour, née Princess Alexandra Galitzine, died at Lake Forest, Illinois, on 5 December.

[She was born at Maryino on 7 May 1905, daughter of Prince Paul Galitzine (1856-1916) and of his wife, née Princess Alexandra Mestchersky (1864-1941). From 1928 to 1944 she was married to Prince Rostislav Alexandrovich of Russia (1902-1978), son of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich of Russia and of his wife, née Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia. In 1949 she married Lester Armour (1895-1970). Her son, Prince Rostislav Rostislavich Romanov, predeceased her in 1999, leaving four children.] (added 16 Dec 2006)

Charles Harold Alexander Butter (b.10 April 1960, only son of Sir David Henry Butter and of his wife, née Myra Alice Wernher [herself the daughter of Sir Harold Wernher, Bt., and of his wife, née Countess Anastasia de Torby (herself the daughter of Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia and of his wife, née Sophie Gräfin von Merenberg)]) and his wife, née Agnieszka Szeluk, had their first child, Julia Davina, on 20 December. In 1962 he married Countess Madeleine Bernadotte (daughter of Prince Carl Bernadotte, born Prince of Sweden, and of his first wife, née Countess Elsa von Rosen). They divorced in 1980.
