Engelbert Graf von Auersperg (b.at Windisch Feistritz, Styria, on 5 Jan 1914, son of Herward Graf von Auersperg [of a non-princely line of that house] and of his wife, née Marie Adamovic de Csepin) died at Uncasville, Connecticut, on 24 January.
[He had married in 1947 Eleonore Gräfin Henckel von Donnersmarck (daughter of Hugo Graf Henckel von Donnersmarck [of a non-princely line of that house] and of his wife, née Anna Gräfin von Auersperg), by whom he had a son and a daughter.] (added 12 Feb 2003)

Wolfgang von Schmieder died on 2 October.
[He was born at Munich on 23 November 1939, son of Max von Schmieder and of his first wife, née Edith Pobell. On 1979 he married Princess Elisabeth von Auersperg (daughter of Prince Karl von Auersperg and of his first wife, née Elisabeth von Gutmannsthal-Benvenuti). Prince Johann Weikhard von Auersperg (son of Prince Heinrich von Auersperg and of his wife, Archduchess Elisabeth of Austria) and his wife, née Maria Philippa Gräfin Calice, had their first child, Pia Maria. (added 7 Apr 2004)
 

BENTHEIM-TECKLENBURG

Hans-Peter von Bredow died at Viechtach on 24 February.
[He was born at Rathenow in 1919, son of Wichard von Bredow (1888-1951) and of his wife, née Alice Baroness von Grotthuß. In 1946 he married Mechthild Maria Gräfin zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg-Rheda (daughter of Hubert Graf zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg-Rheda [himself the son of Richard Friedrich Julius Ludwig Moritz Graf zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg- Rheda, a morganatic son of Moritz Kasimir Karl Christian Friedrich Alexander Graf zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg] and of his wife, née Martha von Flotow), whose first husband, Maximilian Freiherr von Schnurbein, had been killed in action in 1941. She died in 1980. They had six sons and two daughters.] (added 7 Jun 2003)

Prince Maximilian zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg (fourth son of Moritz-Casimir Fürst zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg and of his wife, née Huberta Gräfin von Hardenberg) and his wife, née Marissa Clara Fortescue, had their first child, Moritz Friedrich Carl, at Rheda on 27 March. (added 31 Mar 2003)

Caspar Graf von Preysing-Lichtenegg-Moos (son of Johann Christof Graf von Preysing-Lichtenegg-Moos and of his wife, née Lidvine Gfn von und zu Eltz gt Faust von Stromberg) and his wife, née Marie-Therese Gräfin zu Castell- Castell (daughter of Carl Graf zu Castell-Castell and of his wife, née Adelheid Freiin Jordis von Lohausen) had their third child, Lioba, atthe Portland Hospital, London, on 1 July. Alberto Falck died in Milan on 3 November.
[He was born at Mandello on 19 June 1938. In 1969 he married Countess Cecilia von Collalto und San Salvatore (daughter of Oktavian Fürst von Collalto und San Salvatore and of his wife, née Princess Maria Camilla zu Windisch-Grätz). They had three children. According to a correspondent, the "...death occurred in a dramatic way while driving his car in the centre of Milano and was hit by a heart stroke, with consequent loss of control over the transportation mean and hit about ten persons."] (added 8 Nov 2003)

Sibilla d'Ottaviano Chiaramonte (daughter of Gregorio d'Ottaviano Chiaramonte and of his wife, née Maria Cristina Casana [herself the daughter of Rinaldo dei Baroni Casana and of his wife, née Alexandra Gräfin von Collalto und San Salvatore (herself the daughter of Oktavian Fürst von Collalto und San Salvatore and of his wife, née Princess Maria Camilla zu Windisch-Grätz)]) will marry Comte Gabriel des Courtils (son of the late Comte Philippe des Courtils and of his wife, née Flaminia Giusti de Marle). Nikodemus Graf von Colloredo-Mannsfeld (b.1969, son of Franz Rudolf Maria Graf von Colloredo-Mannsfeld and of his wife, née Princess Maria Alexandra von Thurn und Taxis) is engaged to marry Valérie Anne-Marie Paola Taittinger (b.1972, daughter of Pierre-Christian Tatittinger and of his wife, née Marie-Louise Roux). Anne Marie Isabelle, Vicomtesse de Guébriant, died on 11 April.
[She was born at Paris on 4 May 1906, daughter of Armand Stanislas Herbert d'Espagne, Marquis de Venevelles, and of his wife, née Princess Jeanne de Croy. In 1930 she married Alain Budes Vicomte de Guébriant (1905-1944). They had two children: Roland Budes Vicomte de Guébriant, and Aliette Budes de Guébriant, who married Charles Henri Comte de Cossé Brissac.] (added 15 Apr 2003)

I have received the following communication from a correspondent, relating to a horrible accident involving Hermann Freiherr von Rotenhan (husband of Princess Sophie von Croy) and resulting in the death of his brother, Marquard: "Eyring & Ingeborg von Rotenhan's middle son, Marquard, died in a truly hideous automobile accident yesterday morning at 2:30 AM July 20, 2003, Central European Summer Time.  His older brother, Hermann, was driving.   They were on their way back to their hotel in Bayreuth after attending a party given by Baron & Baroness von Feilitzsch at their castle in Upper Franconia.  No other car was involved.  Hermann lost control of the car and it turned over several times.  When it came to a halt Marquard was crushed underneath it, dead on the spot and mutilated almost beyond recognition.  Hermann was at the wheel in a coma when the emergency people got there.  The newspaper articles are saying that the accident was caused by Hermann driving much too fast on curvy rural roads at night.   Hermann is now in the hospital in Bayreuth suffering from brain injuries and in a coma although he is expected to survive and recover, physically if not psychologically. .  A third passenger was also severely injured." Mafalda de Croy de Freitas Branco (daughter of Silvano de Freitas Branco, Visconde do Porto da Cruz, and of his wife, née Princess Jacqueline Rose de Croy [herself the daughter of Prnce Léopold de Croy-Solre and of his wife, née Jacqueline de Lespinay]) married Taheer Sacoor A. FUGGER

Franziska Gräfin Fugger von Babenhausen (daughter of Hubertus Fürst Fugger von Babenhausen and of his wife, née Princess Alexandra zu Oettingen-Oettingen und Oettingen-Spielberg) is engaged to marry Gonzalo Cazenave, an Argentine. The wedding is to take place on December 13, 2003 at the Basílica del Santísimo Sacramento. (added 24 Oct 2003)

Marc Graf von Andlau-Homburg (b.1973, son of Georg Graf von Andlau-Homburg [himself the son of Marc Graf von Andlau-Homburg and of his wife, Ludwiga Gräfin von und zu Sprinzenstein (herself the daughter of Maximilian Graf von und zu Sprinzenstein and of his wife, Marianne Gräfin von Harrach)]) and his wife, née Fleur de Galard de Béarn (daughter of Comte Arnaud de Galard de Béarn and of his wife, née Patricia Taittinger), had their first child, Darius, on 30 July. Stephan Friedrich Ferdinand Graf Vitzthum von Eckstädt died at Aachen on 1 September.
[He was born at Breslau on 6 August 1940, son of Wolfgang Wilhelm Ferdinand Graf Vitzthum von Eckstädt (himself the son of Christoph Johann Friedrich Graf Vitzthum von Eckstädt and of his wife, née Elisabeth Gräfin von Harrach) and of his wife, née Ursula Waetzoldt. In 1973 he married Elisabeth Marchesa Tacoli (daughter of Alfonso Marchese Tacoli and of his wife, née Alexandra Frn von Vittinghof gt Schell zu Schellenberg). HOHENLOHE-LANGENBURG

Hereditary Prince Philipp zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg (son of Kraft Fürst zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg and of his first wife, née Princess Charlotte von Croy) married Saskia Binder on 13 September. (updated 13 Sep 2003)

Prince Alfonso zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg died at Marbella on 21 December.
[He was born at Madrid on 28 May 1924, son of Prince Max Egon zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1897-1968) and of his wife, née Maria de la Piedad Iturbe y Scholtz, Marquesa de Belvis de las Navas (1892-1990). He was married three times: from 1955 to 1960 to Princess Ira zu Fürstenberg; from 1973 to 1985 to Jacqueline Lane; and since 1991 to Marilys Healing (1941-2000). Thomas William Hope-Cobbold and his wife, Miriana, had their first child, Isabella, in London on 11 June.
[Tom Hope-Cobbold is the son of Philip William Hope-Cobbold, formerly Hope-Johnstone (son of Maj. William Augustus  Ludwig Vernon William Hope-Johnstone [himself the son of George Hope-Johnstone and of his wife, née Princess Luise zu Hohenlohe-Oehringen] and of his wife, née Pamela Maud Cobbold [herself the daughter of Lt-Col Ivan Cobbold and of his wife, née Lady Blanche Cavendish, daughter of the 9th Duke of Devonshire]). On his paternal side, Tom Hope-Cobbold descends from the Earls of Hopetoun [later Marquesses of Linlithgow] and he is kin of the Earl of Annandale and Hartfell [and in remainder to that peerage].] (added 16 Jun 2003)

[She was born at Baden bei Wien on 12 Jul 1913, daughter of Karl Graf von Rumerskirch (1867-1947) and of his wife, née Maria Theresia Gräfin vonKevenhüller-Metsch (herself the daughter of Sigmund Graf von Khevenhüller-Metsch and of his wife, née Maria Anna Gräfin zu Herberstein, and sister of Sigismund Fürst von Khevenhüller-Metsch). In 1935 she married Roger Lalouette, by whom she had two daughters: Florence, wife of Simone Velluti Zati, Duca di San Clemente; and Annick, former wife of Serge Ridoux. Albert de Ridder, widower of Princess Ludmilla von Lobkowicz (1922-1952), died in Namur on 17 July. He was born in Biarritz on 13 May 1918 and had remarried with Marie-Jeanne Delhez. (added 25 Jul 2003)

Maria Antonia Gräfin Strachwitz von Groß-Zauche und Camminetz, née Princess von Lobkowicz, died at Vienna on 18 October.
[She was born at Pruhonitz on 8 August 1914, only child of Prince Joseph Ferdinand von Lobkowicz (1885-1914) and of his wife, née Gisela Helene Gräfin von Silva-Tarouca (1887-1958). In 1937 she married Friedrich Graf Strachwitz von Groß-Zauche und Camminetz (1904-1985). They had three sons and a daughter.] (added 21 Nov 2003)

Guido von Rohr and his wife, née Princess Christina zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg (daughter of Aloys-Konstantin Fürst zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg and of his wife, née Princess Anastasia of Prussia) had their first child, Antonius Gisilot Alois Christian Kajetan Maria, in London on 7 August. [She was born at Duisburg on 24 Feb 1907, daughter of Hans Curtius and of his wife, née Ida Schmid. In 1928 she married Alexander Graf von Rehbinder. They divorced in 1932. She married secondly, in 1938, Gebhard Freiherr von Stotzingen (1909-1989), the son of Albrecht Freiherr von Stotzingen (1864-1938) and of his wife, née Elisabeth Gräfin von Rechberg und Rothenlöwen zu Hohenrechberg (1875-1956). Princess Marie-Louise "Lilly" of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (daughter of Prince Otto-Ludwig zu Sayn- Wittgenstein-Berleburg and of his wife, née Annette Freiin v.Cramm) will marry the 35-year-old designer Lambros Milona. Reportedly a civil marriage will occur in June. Further reports say that a religious ceremony will take place on the Greek island of Mykonos on 13 September.

In 1931 she married Leo Graf Cassis-Faraone ((1894-1952, son of Sigmund Franz Pompejus Graf Cassis-Faraone (1854-1914) and of his wife, née Dora von Marckstadt (1863-1939)). There were three daughters from this marriage: Margherita Paola, married to Manfred Mautner Ritter von Markhof; Leontine Letitia, married to Prince Albrecht von Hohenberg; and Sophia Beatrice, married to Romedio Graf von Thun und Hohenstein. In 1966 she married Hans Trapp Graf von Matsch (1897-1983), son of Gotthard Trapp Graf von Matsch (1864-1940) and of his wife, née Julia Gräfin von Lamberg (1876-1954) who was herself the daughter of Hugo Raimund Graf von Lamberg (1833-1884) and of his wife, née Barbara Gräfin zu Stolberg-Stolberg (1845-1924).
