[He is son of Mrs Deirdre Brown and of the late William Loyd. Mrs Deirdre Brown was born Dierdre Thompson (2nd & yst dau of Hugh Thompson & Anita Carton de Wiart, herself eldest dau of Sir Adrian de Wiart & Countess Friederike Pauline Fugger von Babenhausen).]

Michael James Douglas Campbell (b.1970, son of Peter Colin Drummond Campbell and of his wife, Lady Moyra Hamilton (daughter of James Edward Hamilton, 4th Duke of Abercorn, and of his wife, Lady Mary Crichton)) married Hon. Georgiana Gascoyne-Cecil (daughter of Robert Michael James Gascoyne-Cecil, Viscount Cranborne (himself the son and heir of the 6th Marquess of Salisbury) and of his wife, Hannah, née Stirling) at the Cranborne estate in Dorset on 14 September.

Anne-Charlotte Bès de Berc (b.1978, daughter of Arnault Bès de Berc, son of Guy Bès de Berc and of Marguerite Le Ray d'Abrantès) will marry Corentin Rivière de Précourt (son of Bruno Rivière de Précourt and of Michèle Buteau).

Inès Rivet de Chaussepierre (b.1974, daughter of Thibault Rivet de Chaussepierre (son of Georges Rivet de Chaussepierre and of Jeanne Le Ray d'Abrantès) and of Thérèse de Lajugie) will marry Guy Petit de Leudeville (son of Michel Petit de Leudeville and of Muriel Bruneau.)

Donna Paola dei principi Aldobrandini (second daughter of Don Camillo, Principe Aldobrandini, and of Donna Stefania Gallarati-Scotti dei principi di Molfetta) married Nobile Federico Arcelli (son of Nobile Mario Ugo Arcelli, a former
minister for budget and european affairs of the Republic of Italy, and of his wife, née Maria Gabriella Legrenal) at the Aldobrandini Palace's Chapel in Frascati, near Rome on 16 November.
 

ALMODOVAR DEL RIO

Jaime Carvajal y Hoyos (son of Maria Isabel Hoyos y Martinez de Irujo, Marquesa de Almodovar del Rio [herself the daughter of Alfonso de Hoyos y Sanchez, Duque de Salmodovar del Rio] and of her husband, Jaime Carvajal y Urquijo Marqués de Isasi) and his wife, née Alejandra Falcó y Girod (daughter of Carlos Falcó, Marques de Grinón, and of his wife, née Janine Girod), had their second child, Camila, at Barcelona on 15 September.

Constantin Norbert Graf Kinsky v.Wchinitz u.Tettau (elder son of Radslav Graf Kinsky v.Wchinitz u.Tettau and of his wife, Princess Thamar Amilakvari [herself the daughter of Prince Dimitri Amilakvari and of his wife, Princess Irene Dadiani]) and his wife, née Marie de Crevoisier d'Hurbache, had their second son, Adrien, at Cormeilles-en-Parisis on 19 June.
[Their elder son, Jan, was born at Sèvres on 22 Apr 1990. Constantin comes from the senior, but non-princely, branch of the Kinsky family, descending from Franz Ferdinand Graf Kinsky v.Wchinitz u.Tettau (1678-1741), elder brother of Stephan, cr Fürst Kinsky v.Wchinitz u.Tettau in 1746.]

Torquil Ian Campbell, 13th Duke of Argyll (b.29 May 1968, only son of the late Ian, 12th Duke of Argyll (1937-2001) and of his wife, the former Iona Mary Colquhoun) married Eleanor Cadbury (b.London 26 Jan 1973, only daughter of Mr Peter Hugh George Cadbury and his wife the former Sally Strouvelle) at St Mary's Church, Fairford, Gloucs, on 8 June.
 

AUDIFFRET-PASQUIER

Arthur du Fresne de Beaucourt (b.29 May 1983, son of Emmanuel du Fresne, Marquis de Beaucourt (himself the son of Jean du Fresne, Marquis de Beaucourt (1909-1987), and of his wife, Roselyne d'Audiffret-Pasquier (1918-1958, daughter of Etienne, 2nd Duc d'Audiffret-Pasquier)) and of his wife, Isaure, née d'Andigné) died on 28 March.

Marie-Elisabeth Sachs (b.1980, daughter of Olivier Sachs and of Véronique de Montalembert (herself the daughter of Cte Emmanuel de Montalembert and of Marguerite de Liedekerke (herself the daughter of Charles, Comte de Liedekerke, and of Anne d'Audiffret-Pasquier))) will marry Armand de Blanquet du Chayla.
[He is son of Dominique du Chayla and of Monique de Pradel de Lamaze.]

Ignacio Izuzquiza y Fernández and his wife, née Isabel Alfonsa Ruiz de Arana (daughter of José Ruiz de Arana, Duque de Baena, and of his wife, née Maria Theresa Marone Cinzano [herself the daughter of Conte Enrico Marone and of his wife, the Infanta Cristina of Spain (daughter of King Alfonso XIII)]) had a daughter, Crista, on 30 August.

Contessa Donna Costanza dei Principi Barbiano de Belgiojoso (b.1968, daughter of Conte Don Gaetano and his wife, the former Giovanna Guasti) married Renaud Baboin in June.
[He is son of the late Yves Baboin and of his wife, the former Christiane de Roquette Buisson (herself the daughter of the Comte de Roquette Buisson and of his wife, née Simone de Vincens de Causans).]
 

BATTENBERG/MOUNTBATTEN

Lord Ivar Mountbatten (son of David, 3rd Marquess of Milford Haven (1919-1970) [himself the son of George, 2nd Marquess of Milford Haven (born Prince of Battenberg) and of his wife, Countess Nadejda de Torby] and of his second wife, née Janet Mercedes Bryce) and his wife, née Penelope Anne Vere Thompson, had a third child, Louise, on 30 July.

Azriel Zuckerman and his wife, née Lady Joanna Knatchbull (daughter of John Ulick Knatcbhbull, Lord Brabourne, and of his wife, Patricia, Countess Mountbatten of Burma [herself the daughter of Louis, Earl Mountbatten of Burma, born Prince of Battenberg]) had a son, Alexander Azriel John David, at Portland Hospital, London, on 5 October.
[Lady Joanna has already a daughter, Eleuthera (born 1986), fromher first marriage to Baron Hubert Pernot de Breuil.]
 

BAUFFREMONT-COURTENAY

Princess Agnès de Bauffremont-Courtenay (daughter of Prince Charles de Bauffremont-Courtenay [himself the only son and heir of Jacques de Bauffremont-Courtenay, Prince and Duc de Bauffremont] and of his wife, Blanche, née de Chabannes) married Baron Renaud de Maistre in July.
[He is son of Baron Serge de Maistre and of his wife, Marie-Antoinette, née de Feydeau de Saint Christophe.]

Princess Anne de Bauffremont-Courtenay (daughter of Prince Charles de Bauffremont-Courtenay [himself the only son and heir of Jacques de Bauffremont-Courtenay, Prince and Duc de Bauffremont] and of his wife, Blanche, née de Chabannes) is engaged to marry comte Bernard de Lambert des Granges (son of Bruno de Lambert des Granges and of his wife, née France Soucanye de Landevoisin.)

Comte Emmanuel de Pontac (son of Comte François de Pontac and of his wife, née Princess Eliane de Bauffremont- Courtenay) and his wife, née Alix Mirieu de Labarre, had their fourth child, Philippe, at Bordeaux on 9 December. (added 24 Aug 2003)
 

BEAUFORT

Richard Scott-Watson and his wife, Lucy Ann, née Somerset (daughter of Hon. Geoffrey Somerset, brother and heir presumptive to the 5th Lord Raglan) had a second child, George Anthony, on 2 April.

Hon. Oliver Richard Seyfried (b.1976, son of David John Seyfried, Lord Herbert {son of John Frederick Seyfried and of his wife, née Lady Cathleen Eliot (daughter of John Granville Cornwallis Eliot, 6th Earl of St.Germans, and of his wife, née Lady Blanche Somerset [herself the daughter of the 9th Duke of Beaufort])], and of his wife, née Jane Angela Bishop) is engaged to marry Sally Fergusson (daughter of Mr and Mrs Ian Fergusson, of Tillington, West Sussex).
[The Barony of Herbert was called out of abeyance in 2002 in favir of Oliver's father. He was coheir to that Barony and to that of Botetourt through Lady Blanche Somerset.]
 

BEDFORD

Hon David Whitney Erskine Russell (b.1947, eldest son of Geoffrey Denis Erskine Russell, 4th Lord Ampthill, and of his first wife, née Susan Mary Sheila Winn) married Princess Christia Romanov at Rye, East Sussex, on 6 July.
[He had married 1st in 1980 April Mackenzie Arbon and has two daughters. Christia was born Christin Ipsen, daughter of Harold Noregaard Ipsen and of the former Lorraine Wrobel. She married in 1980 Prince Rostislav Romanov (1938-1999), son of Prince Rostislav Alexandrovich of Russia, and has two sons and a dauughter from that marriage.]

Orlando Plunket Greene (son of Alexander Plunket Greene [himself son of Richard Plunket Greene and of his wife, née Elizabeth Frances Russell (herself daughter of Harold John Hastings Russell and granddaughter of Lord Arthur Russell)]) and his wife, née Bona Frances Montagu (daughter of Hon Robert Montagu and granddaughter of the 10th Earl of Sandwich) , had a son, Lucas Alexander, at London on 16 August.

John Robert Russell, 13th Duke of Bedford, died at Santa Fe, New Mexico, on 25 October.
[He was born in 1917, son of Hastings, 12th Duke of Bedford (1888-1953) and of his wife, née Louisa Whitwell (d.1960). He married firstly in 1939 Clare Bridgman, who died in 1945. He married secondly in 1947 Hon.Lydia Yarde-Buller, from whom he was divorced in 1960. He married thirdly in 1960 Nicole Schneider. He leaves two sons bu the first marriage and one from the second, and is succeeded by the eldest, Henry Robin Ian.]

Lord James Edward Herbrand Russell (b.1975, third son of Henry Robin Ian Russell, 14th Duke of Bedford [himself son of John (“Ian”) Robert Russell, 13th Duke of Bedford, by his first wife, the late Clare Gwendolen Bridgman] and of Henrietta Joan Tiarks) is to marry Dawn Alexander.

Aliki, Lady Russell, née Diplarakos, died on 30 October.
[She was the daughter of George Diplarakos, of Athens, and married firstly Paul Louis Weiller. She married secondly, in 1945, Sir John Wriothesley Russell (descended from the 6th Duke of Bedford). Among her children is Paul-Annik Weiller (d.1998) who married Princess Olympia Torlonia, and was father of Princess Sibilla of Luxemburg.]
 

BELMONTE

The engagement was announced, 30 July, 2002, between the Hon. Adam Robert Bruce (b.1968, second son of the 11th Earl of Elgin and Kincardine, KT, of Broomhall, Fife, and of the Countess of Elgin & Kincardine) and Donna Maria-Sofia Granito Pignatelli di Belmonte (b.London 11 Mar 1974, younger daughter of Don Angelo Gennaro Granito, Principe di Belmonte, Duca di Aceranza, and of his wife, née Sarah Elizabeth Mayhew, of Rome and London.)
 

BÉTHUNE-HESDIGNEUL

Geneviéve, Comtesse de Béthune-Hesdigneul, née d'Anglejean (widow of Comte Eugène de Béthune-Hesdigneul (1910-1965)) died on 20 July.
[She was born 1919, daughter of Bernard Alfred, baron d'Anglejan, and of his wife, née Charlotte Bouttée de Toulmonhad. She married the Comte in 1940 after his first wife, Countess Claude d'Ursel, died. She is survived by four of her five children, and by one stepdaughter. Her elder son, Henri, suceeded his cousin as Prince de Béthune-Hesdigneul in 1976.]
 

BISMARCK

Tatjana Gräfin v.Bismarck-Schönhausen (daughter of Andreas Herbert Alexander Graf v.Bismarck-Schönhausen [himself the son of Gottfried Alexander Georg Herbert Gf v.Bismarck-Schönhausen, younger son of Herbert Fürst v.Bismarck] and of his first wife, Olivia Gräfin Larisch v.Moennich) married Kurt Liemer at Zürich on 13 July.

Stephanie Gräfin v.Bismarck-Schönhausen (daughter of Andreas Herbert Alexander Graf v.Bismarck-Schönhausen [himself the son of Gottfried Alexander Georg Herbert Gf v.Bismarck-Schönhausen, younger son of Herbert Fürst v.Bismarck] and of his second wife, née Charlotte Kinberg) and her husband, Karl Theodor Freiherr v.u.zu Guttenberg, are expecting their second child. They were married in 2000 and have already a daughter, Anna.
 

BLACAS d'AULPS

René Léon Marie Joseph Hurault de Vibraye, Marquis de Vibraye (b.Tours 19 Mar 1906, son of Comte Fernand de Vibraye (1880-1962) [himself the son of René Vicomte de Vibraye (1842-1907) and of his wife, Louise de Blacas d'Aulps (1849-1934)] and of his wife, née Anne-Marie Viellard (1882-1982)) died at château de Semur-en-Vallon on 30 October.
 

BORGHESE

Princess Marcella Borghese, Duchesa di Bomarzo (born at Foligno on 15 Feb 1911, daughter of Francesco Fazi and Anita Valenti) died in Montreux, Switzerland, over the weekend of 18/20 January.
[She co-founded the Princess Marcella Borghese cosmetics company with the late Charles Revson. She was the second wife of Don Paolo Borghese, Duca di Bomarzo, Principe di Sant'Angelo e di San Polo, etc, who died in Rome on 26 Apr 1985.]

Don Fabio Borghese, Principe di Leonforte (son of the late Pr Don Alessandro Borghese and of Fabrizia dei conti Citterio) and his wife, Giacaranda Caracciolo-Falck, had a daughter, India, at the beginning of October.
 

BORROMEO

Count Don Giovanni Ludovico Borromeo dei marchesi di Pandino-of the House of Princes BORROMEO- (son of the late Count Don Giancarlo Borromeo and of the late Donna Ludovica dei duchi Gallarati-Scotti dei principi di Molfetta) died at the Borromeo Castle in Peschiera Borromeo, near Milan on 13 August.
[He married in 1937 the late Egidia dei conti Cigala-Fulgosi and leaves four sons and one daughter. Count Don Giovanni Ludovico was a member of the Princely House Borromeo's collateral branch, who does not bear the Princely title, but only a marchional title (marchese di Pandino) for the Head of the branch and the title of count for all the male members of the Family.]
 

BRANCOVAN

Prince Grégoire Jean Matei Bassaraba de Brancovan (b.1913, son of Prince Michael Constantine Bassaraba de Brancovan (1875-1967) and of his first wife, Eugénie Antoniadis Negroponte (1874-1917)) died at Lausanne on 4 June.
[He had married in 1942 Sophie Hélène Arion (1911-1989) and is survived by a son and a daughter.]
 

BRISSAC

Jacob Grierson and his wife, Félicité Herzog (daughter of Maurice Herzog and of his former wife, Marie-Pierre de Cossé-Brissac (herself the daughter of Pierre, Duc de Brissac (1900-1993)) had their first child, a son, Benjamin on 7 March.

David Castella and his wife, née Sophie Merveilleux du Vignaux (daughter of Jacques Merveilleux du Vignaux and of his wife, Marie-Christine de Cossé-Brissac (herself the daughter of Antoine, Marquis de Cossé (1912-1994)), had a daughter, Agathe, at Paris on 28 April.

Charles-André, Marquis de Cossé-Brissac (elder son and heir of Eugène, Duc de Brissac) and his wife, née Larissa Gräfin Széchényi de Sárvár-Felsövidek, had their fourth child, Annabel, at Angers on 17 September.
 

BROGLIE

Prince Guy-Patrick de Broglie (son of Prince Régis de Broglie and of his wife, née Florence Bartholoni) and his wife, née Hermine de Bentzmann, had their fourth child, Cosima, at San Diego, California, on 21 June.

Comte Jean de La Roche-Aymon (son of Hély, Marquis de La Roche-Aymon (himself the son of Raoul de La Roche-Aymon (1881-1980) and of his wife, Princess Madeleine de Broglie (1891-1984)) and of his wife, Hedwige de Foresta (sister of Princess Napoléon, née Alix de Foresta)) married Lorraine Rolin Jacquemyns at Gomzé, Belgium, on 3 August.
[Lorraine Rolin Jacquemyns is the daughter of (jonkheer) Emmanuel Rolin Jacquemyns (himself the son of baron Edouard Rolin Jacquemyns and of Daisy (of the barons) Rolin) and of his wife née Colette Vercheval.]

Marie Jolibois (daughter of Charles Jolibois and of his wife, Princess Bernadette de Broglie (herself the daughter of the late Prince Dominique de Broglie and of his wife, the late Guillemette Lamy de La Chapelle-Nougarède)) will marry Charles-Albert Tarditi (son of Albert Tarditi and of his wife Ghislaine, née Douheret.)

Etienne de Chavagnac (b.1976, fourth child and second son of Raoul de Chavagnac and of his wife, Princess Odile de Broglie (herself the daughter of Prince Dominique de Broglie (1902-1969) and of his wife, Guillemette, née Lamy de La Chapelle- Nougarède (1905-1992)) will marry Marie-Bénédicte Chaudet (daughter of Patrick Chaudet and of his wife, Christine, née Chenu.)

Benoît de Fontenay (son of Jean-Louis de La Fontaine de Fontenay adopt.Le Lièvre de La Grange, Baron de Fontenay, and of his wife, Princess Marie-France de Broglie [herself the daughter of the late Prince Gonzague de Broglie (1910-1998) and of his wife, née Antoinette Huerteau]) will marry Marianna Grant (daughter of Robert Ian Norman Grant and of his wife, née Maria Régina Fortes Furtado).
 

BUCCLEUCH & QUEENSBERRY

Lord Damian Montagu-Douglas-Scott (third son of Walter, 9th Duke of Buccleuch & Queensberry, and of his wife, the former Jane McNeill) and his wife, Elizabeth Powis, had their first child, Alexander Edward James, on 13 February.
[The couple had married in 2001.]

Sir David Basil Hill-Wood, 3rd Bt. (b.1926, son of Sir Basil Samuel Hill-Wood, 2nd Bt., and of his wife, Hon. Joan Louisa Brand (herself the daughter of Thomas Walter Brand, 3rd Viscount Hampden, and of his wife, Lady Katherine Montagu-Douglas-Scott (herself the daughter of the 6th Duke of Buccleuch & Queensberry))) died on 12 April.
[He married Jennifer Strang Stratman in 1970 and is survived by her and their three children, the eldest of whom, Samuel Thomas, succeeds as 4th Baronet.]

Hon. Elizabeth Varley, née Douglas-Scott-Montagu, (daughter of John Walter Edward, 2nd Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, and of his first wife, Lady Cecil Kerr) died at her home at Beaulieu, Hants, on 6 May.
[She had married, as his fourth wife, Arthur Noel Claude Varley in 1962. He died in 1985.]

Hon Mary Rachel Douglas-Scott-Montagu and her husband Rupert Benjamin Montagu-Scott (formerly Scott) had their second child, Emilia Belinda Montagu-Scott, born at Beaulieu, Hampshire, England on 5 June.
[She is the only daughter of Edward John Barrington Douglas-Scott-Montagu, 3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu, and his first wife, Elizabeth Crossley. Lord Montagu is the grandson of the late Lord Henry John Douglas-Scott-Montagu who was created 1st Baron Montagu of Beaulieu [himself the second son of the late Sir Walter Francis Montagu-Douglas-Scott, 5th Duke of Buccleuch & 7th Duke of Queensbury].]
 

CARACCIOLO

Don Roberto Caracciolo, 12th Duca di San Vito (son of the late Don Nicola Caracciolo, 11th Duca di San Vito and of the late Ketty Giglio) died in Rome on 15 November, at the age of 95.
[By his marriage with Monique Saint he had no children. The new Duke of San Vito is now Don Federico Caracciolo (born 1922) Don Roberto's brother.]
 

CARAMAN

François, Marquis de Caraman, died in Guatemala on 11 November.
[He was born 1947, the elder son of Jean Victor, Duc de Caraman, by his first wife, Nada Esmée Macklin. He married firstly in 1968 Anne-Noëlle de Montal. He married secondly in 1979 Evelyne Ubaud. He married thirdly in 1983 Géraldine von Hessberg. He had one child, Selina, born in 1970.
 

CARAMAN-CHIMAY

Jean de Caraman-Chimay (younger son of Philippe Joseph Marie Jean, 22nd Prince de Chimay, Prince de Caraman, and of his wife, Anne-Noëlle, née Rippert) married Marie-Séverine Hoare (daughter of Michael Graham Hoare and of his wife, Béatrice Monts de Savasse) on 1 June at Chimay. The religious ceremony was at Cambremer on 6 July.

Hélène Marie Josèphe de Riquet, Comtesse de Caraman-Chimay, Comtesse Hocquart de Turtot (b.1921, daughter of Philippe de Riquet Comte de Caraman-Chimay (1881-1931) and of his wife, née Jeanne de Boisgelin (1889-1967)) died on 28 July at Boulogne-Billancourt.
[She had married Henri Comte Hocquart de Turtot in 1947. She was sister of Marguerite, the late Duchesse de Magenta (1913-1990)]
 

CARS

François Amédée de Pérusse, Duc des Cars, married secondly France Masurel on 15 June.
[He had married Constanza del Carmen Laura Josefina Edwijes, daughter of Marcial Martinez Prieto and of Mercedes Rivas, in 1961. She died in1995. France Masurel was born 1943, daughter of Yves Masurel and of Maddy Dewavrin. She had married firstly Arnaud de Bailliencourt dit Courcol.]
 

CHIGI ALBANI DELLA ROVERE

Donna Agnese dei principi Chigi Albani della Rovere (daughter of the late Don Francesco dei principi Chigi Albani della Rovere and of his second wife the late donna Anna Torlonia dei duchi di Polo) died in Rome on 22 May.
[She married in 1953 Ludovico Carrassi dei marchesi del Villar and had three sons.]

Don Agostino, Principe Chigi Albani della Rovere, Principe di Farnese, Principe di Campagnano e Soriano, Duca di Ariccia, Duca di Formello, etc (only son of the late Don Sigismondo, Prince Chigi Albani della Rovere, etc, the last "Hereditary Marshal of Holy Roman Church and Guardian of the Conclave", and of the late Marian Berry) died in Porto Ercole, near Grosseto,South Tuscany, Italy on 14 July.
[Prince Don Agostino was born in 1929 and was unmarried. Presumedly the new Head of the Princely House will be Don Agostino's cousin, Don Mario Chigi, born 1929, son of the late Prince Don Francesco Chigi and of the late Donna Anna Torlonia dei duchi di Polo. Don Mario Chigi has an only son, Don Flavio (b.1975), by his second marriage with Donatella Favia del Core.]

Ascanio dei conti Nasalli Rocca di Corneliano (son of Count Camillo Nasalli Rocca di Corneliano [himself son the late Count Carlo Nasalli Rocca di Corneliano and of the late donna Flavia Domitilla dei principi Chigi Della Rovere Albani (1922-1997)] and of Nicoletta dei conti Barbasetti da Prun) died tragically in a car accident near Rieti, on 30 October. He was born in 1976 and was unmarried.
 

CLERMONT-TONNERRE

Alexandre de Clermont-Tonnerre (son of Comte Antoine de Clermont-Tonnerre, of the non-ducal branch of the family, and of his first wife, née Hélène Anne Marie Léonce de Rohan-Chabot) and his wife, née Coralie de Viel Castel (daughter of Comte Pierre de Viel Castel and of his wife, née Diane de Villeneuve) had a son, Joseph, at Athens on 16 July.

Amédée de Clermont-Tonnerre (second son of Charles, Duc de Clermont-Tonnerre, and of his wife, née Anne Péronelle Cécile Marie Moranvillé) and his wife, née Béatrice Hénault, had their second child, Elvire, in August.
[Their first child, Stanislas, was born at Paris on 14 Oct 2000.]

Lucien Thynne (grandson of the 6th Marquess of Bath) and his wife, née Henrietta Yvery Hunloke had a second daughter, Cassia Victoria, on 15 July.
[Henrietta is daughter of Nicholas Victor Hunloke and of his wife, née Lady Katharine Montagu [herself the daughter of the 10th Earl of Sandwich]. Nicholas Victor Hunloke is the second son of Henry Philip Hunloke (d.1978) and of his first wife, Lady Anne Cavendish (1909-1981), daughter of the 9th Duke of Devonshire. Interestingly, in 1962 Henrietta's paternal grandmother, Lady Anne Holland-Martin (as she then was, having married secondly Christopher John Holland-Martin) married Henrietta's maternal grandfather, the 10th Earl of Sandwich. Henry Philip Hunloke was a great-grandson of Lady Sophia Fitzclarence, daughter of King William IV.]

[She had been born in 1923 and had married Count Angus Douglas in 1948. They divorced in 1954. They had one son, Count Sholto Douglas.]

Princess Marina Galitzine (b.1968, daughter of Prince Dimitri Nikolaevich Galitzine (b.1927) and of his wife, Eileen Patricia Brinsmade Wingfield (1928-1980)) and her husband, Alexander Fedoroff [Feodorov?] had their third child and first daughter, Taisia, on 5 April.

Princess Catherine (Katya) Galitzine (daughter of Prince George Galitzine (himself the son of Prince Wladimir Galitzine and of his wife, Countess Catherine von Carlow (herself the daughter of Duke Georg Alexander of Mecklenburg)) and of his second wife, née Jean Dawnay) married Nicholas A. G. Laing at St.Nicholas Cathedral, St Petersburg on 21 July.

Prince Yuri Galitzine died in England on 28 November.

Prince Emanuel Galitzine died in London on 23 December.
[He was born at Kislovodsk on 28 May 1918, the third son of Prince Vladimir Galitzine (1884-1954) and of his first wife, Countess Catherine von Carlow (1891-1940), who was herself the daughter of Duke Georg Alexander of Mecklenburg and of his wife, Natalia, Countess von Carlow. Prince Emanuel married in 1943 Gwendoline Rhodes. He is survived by her and their three sons.]

Comtesse Henri d'Harcourt, née Françoise de Durat (b.1921, daughter of Jehan de Durat (1889-1940) and of his wife, née Jacqueline de Chabenns de La Palice (1896-1982)) died on 19 September.
[She had married Comte Henri d'Harcourt (son of Comte Joseph d'Harcourt and of his wife, née Blanche de Melun) in 1941. They had seven children, six of whom survive her. He died in 1979.]

Comte Guillaume d'Harcourt died on 18 December.
[He was born at Melun on 1 Sep 1919, the second son of Comte Armand d'Harcourt (1883-1975), of the non-ducal line of the family, and of his wife, née Renée de Fénelon (1892-1974). He married in 1954 Florence Deville, by whom he had four sons, all of whom survive him.]

Ela Hilda Aline, Dowager Countess of Carlisle (widow of Charles James Ruthven Howard, 12th Earl of Carlisle) died on 18 February.
[She was born in 1925, the only daughter of Wentworth Henry Canning Beaumont, 2nd Viscount Allendale, and of his wife, Violet Lucy Emily Seely. She married the earl in 1945, and he died in 1994. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, including the 13th Earl of Carlisle.]

Alexander Rupert Fitzalan-Howard (third son of Lord Michael Fitzalan Howard [himself the second son of the late Bernard Edward Fitzalan Howard, 3rd Baron Howard of Glossop and the late Mona Josephine Tempest Stapleton, 11th Baroness Beaumont, and therefore a younger brother of Miles Francis Stapleton Fitzalan Howard, 17th Duke of Norfolk] and his second wife the late Jane Margaret Meade Newman) and his wife, née Hon Joanna [“Janna”] Elizabeth Venables-Vernon, had their fourth child, Hugo Michael Fitzalan Howard, on 1 March.

Miles Francis Stephen Fitzalan-Howard, 17th Duke of Norfolk, Premier Duke and Earl of England, Hereditary Earl Marshal (son of Bernard Edward, 3rd Lord Howard of Glossop, and of his wife, Mona, 11th Baroness Beaumont) died on 24 June at his home at Henley-on-Thames.
[He had succeeded his mother as Baron Beaumont in 1971; he succeeded his father as Lord Howard of Glossop in 1972; and he succeeded a distant cousin as Duke of Norfolk, Earl of Norfolk, Arundel, and Surrey, etc, in 1975. He had married Anne Mary Teresa Constable-Maxwell in 1949, and is survived by her, their five children and numerous grandchildren. He is succeeded in the titles by his elder son, Edward William (b.1956)]

Edward Guy Tyler (husband of Philippa Gwendolen Mary Fitzalan-Howard [herself the daughter of Hon Philip Granville James Fitzalan-Howard (himself the son of the 2nd Lord Howard of Glossop)]) died on 30 June.

According to Nigel Dempster, Michael Howard (fourth son of the late Lord Howard of Henderskelfe and of his wife, Lady Cecilia Fitzroy) married Debbie Ayrton-Grimes at Malton Register Office on 26 October.
He married in 1985 Linda Louise McGrady and has two children. Apparently they are no longer married. If anyone has details on this I would appreciate receiving them.]

Prince Alexander Obolensky (b.1915, son of Prince Peter Alexandrovich Obolensky (1889-1969) and of his 1st wife, Princess Ivanovna Obolensky) died on 26 January.
[He had married Helene Reza-Beck in 1941 and is survived by her, their son, and three grandchildren. According to Ferrand, Alexander's great-greatgrandmother, Nadejda Younine, may have been an illegitimate daughter of Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich of Russia]

Princess Maria Sergeievna Obolensky died on 17 November, apparently in England.
[She was born in St.Petersburg in 1915, the eldest of the six children of Prince Sergei Alexandrovich Obolensky (1879-1960) and of his wife, Lubov Alexandrovna Naryshkine (1890-1967). She married Sydney Ranicar in 1943.]

Don Andrea dei Principi Pacelli (son of Don Filippo dei Principi Pacelli and of Maria Antonietta Campedelli) married Marta Cosaro at Pietrasanta nr Lucca on 25 July.
[The House of the Marchesi Pacelli assumed the Princely title by Royal Decree "motu proprio" of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy in 1941.Actually, head of the Princely Family is Don Marcantonio, Prince PACELLI (b.1907), father of the above-mentioned Don Filippo (and grand-father of Don Andrea). Don Marcantonio is son of the late Marchese Don Francesco Pacelli (d.1935), the only brother of the late Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli (1876-1958), who in 1939 became the 262nd sovereign Pontiff as Pope Pius XII.

Prince Michel Poniatowski (son of Prince Casimir Pontiatowski and of Anne de Caraman-Chimay) died at Opio, Alpes-Maritimes, on 15 January.

[She is the eldest daughter of Albrecht Graf von und zu Egloffstein and of Iniga Gräfin von der Recke von Volmerstein (herself a daughter of the late Gerd Graf von der Recke von Volmerstein and of Ursula Gräfin zu Pappenheim) and she was born in Bamberg on March 12th 1975. The engagement was announced in July 2001.]

Emmanuel Pierre and his wife, née Yolaine de Rarécourt de La Vallée de Pimodan (daughter of Cte Alain de Rarécourt de La Vallée de Pimodan [himself the son of Cte Olivier de Rarécourt de La Vallée de Pimodan and of his wife, née Ysabeau de Rohan-Chabot] and of his wife, née Thérese de Gouzillon de Bélizal), had a son, Enguerrand, at Paris on 20 September.

[He was born 13 Jun 1906, son of Comte Louis Marie François de Rohan-Chabot (1865-1964) and of his wife, née Jeanne de Brye (1874-1946). He married firstly in 1933 Marguerite de Chabrol-Tournoëlle, who died in 1958. He married secondly in 1966 Princess Claude de Bauffremont-Courtenay, who died in 1997. He is survived by the five children of his first marriage.]

Don Fabrizio Ruffo, Duca Ruffo, Principe della Floresta, died in Rome on 23 August.
[He was born in Milan in 1916, son of Don Giuseppe, Duca Ruffo, Pr della Floresta, and of his wife, Maria Felicia Gabaldi. He married in 1943 Anna Benincasa, and had two sons, the elder of whom, Massimo, succeeds in the titles.]

Don Fulco Ruffo di Calabria-Santapau (son of Don Fabrizio Principe Ruffo di Calabria-Santapau, Principe di Palazzolo, Principe di Scilla, etc, and of his first wife, Maria Vaciago) will marry Ada Mazzei.

[Helen] Dron Hore-Ruthven, née Craig, (wife of James John Malise Hore-Ruthven [himself the son of Hon. Angela Margaret Manners (herself the daughter of the 3rd Lord Manners, of the house of the Dukes of Rutland)] died in Devon on 18 December.

Anne, Duchess of Rutland, died on 27 December.
[She was born Anne Bairstow Cumming Bell, daughter of Major William Cumming Bell and of his wife, née Bairstow. She married in 1946 Charles John Robert Manners, 10th Duke of Rutland. They divorced in 1956. She later became a fashion model and equestrian. She is survived by her daughter, Lady Charlotte Louisa Manners.]

Romée Edouard Marie, Comte de Villeneuve Esclapon (b.1905, son of Romée Comte de Villeneuve Esclapon (1876-1912) and of his wife, née Marie Benoist d'Azy) died at Bouligneux on 22 September.
[He had married in 1939 Dauphine de Sabran-Pontevès (b.1917, daughter of Elzéar de Sabran-Pontevès (1880-1931) and of his wife, née Marie Pereira-Pinto (1884-1974). They had six children.]

Nicolas de Kermel (son of Vicomte Bertrand de Kermel and of his wife, née Brigitte de Maistre [herself the daughter of Comte Xavier-Eugène de Maistre and of his wife, née Magali d'Isoard de Chénerilles (herself the daughter of Pierre, Marquis d'Isoard de Chénerilles, and of his wife, née Phanette Gertrude Alice Dauphine Gersende de Sabran Pontevès)]) is engaged to marry Sophie-Marie Baudet (daughter of Mme Jean-Pierre Baudet, née Aude de Ribier).

Cynthia, Duchess of St.Albans (former wife of Murray de Vere Beauclerk, 14th Duke of St.Albans) died at her home on 12 May.
[She was born Cynthia Theresa Mary Howard in Australia and married 1stly in 1970 Sir Anthony Robin Maurice Hooper, 2nd Bt., and they were divorced in 1973. She married the Duke in 1974 and they were divorced in 2001.]

Murray de Vere Beauclerk, 14th Duke of St.Albans, married Mrs Gillian Anita Roberts in London on 14 December.
[He had married firstly in 1963 Rosemary Frances Scoones (div 1974). He married secondly in 1974 Cynthia Theresa Mary Howard. They divorced in 2001, and she died earlier this year (see above.]
 

SAN FAUSTINO

Marella Zampolli (daughter of Dr.Egidio Zampolli and of Ilaria dei conti Rattazzi (herself grand-daughter (by her mother, Susanna Agnelli) of the late Donna Virginia Bourbon del Monte dei principi di San Faustino)) married Andrew Hajnes in Rome on 3 May.
 

SANTA SEVERINA

Giovanni de Giovanni Greuther, Duca di Santa Severina (son of the late Duke Don Vincenzo dei principi de' Giovanni Greuther dei duchi di Santa Severina and of the late Nobile Adele Perrella) died in Naples on 12 August.
[A correspondent sent me the following: "Close friend of the Savoy family, he dedicated most of his life (long, as he was about 95 yrs old) to support their return in Italy. He died only a few weeks before he could see the result of his dedication. He was, IIRC, the only living non-royal collar of the Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation. The funeral will take place in Naples, in the historical church of S.Ferdinando di Palazzo."
He married in 1928 the late Nobile Maria Carolina di Lorenzo and leaves three daughters and one son. Duke Don Giovanni was a member of a secondary line of the Princely and Ducal House De'Giovanni Greuther. The title of "duke" results from a papal privilege, accorded by "breve pontificium" of Sovereign Pontiff Benedict XV, on 14 March 1916,"ad personam" for don Giovanni and his father, and recognized in 1930 by Royal Decree of King of Italy.]
 

SAPIEHA

Count Jan Zamoyski (b.1912, son of Count Moritz Klemens Zamoyski (1871-1939) and of Princess Maria Roza Sofia Sapieha-Rozanska (1884-1969)) died on 29 June.
[He married Roza Zoltowska (1913-1976) in 1938 and is survived by their five children.]

Don Muzio dei Duchi Sforza Cesarini (b.Rome 19 Jun 1973, youngest child and only son of Don Ascanio dei duchi Sforza-Cesarini, Duca di Civitalavinia, and of Monica Bosca dei conti di Roveto) married Elisabetta Jacoboni at the Chapel of the Capuchins Monastery in Colle San Mauro nr Rieti on 6 June.
[Elisabetta is daughter of Anna Beatrice Jacobini [or, Iacobini] Tomassi Gallants. Don Muzio has three sisters: 1) Donna Polyssena, b.1969, m.1988 Tommaso Gargallo dei marchesi di Castel Lentini; 2) Donna Drusiana, b.1971, m.23 May 2001 Charles Henri Price; 3) Donna Vittoria, b.1972, m.1995 Francesco Gucci (of the Family of famous Italian stylists, himself son of Dr. Roberto Gucci and of Donna Drusilla dei duchi Caffarelli).]
 

SOMERSET

Alexandra Victoria Gurney, née Seymour (b.1914, daughter of Richard Sturgis Seymour (1875-1959) and of his wife, Lady Victoria Fitzroy (1886-1969) died on 31 March.
[She had married Samuel Edmund Gurney in 1939. He died in 1990. She is survived by a son and a daughter and seven grandchildren, another son having died accidentally in 1962. Queen Alexandra had stood sponsor at her christening.]

Capt. Nigel Hugh Barne, MC, Scots Guards (b.29 June 1909, third son of Maj. Miles Barne, DSO (1876-1917), of Sotterley Park & Dunwich, Suffolk, [himself the son of Frederick St.John Newdegate Barne, of Sotterley and Dunwich, and of his wife, Lady Constance Seymour (herself the daughter of the 5th Marquess of Hertford)] by his wife, the former Violet Ella Orr-Ewing) died on 19 June, aged 92.
[He married 1949, Elizabeth Marjorie, daughter of the Rev. Henry Lefroy Russell, by whom he had issue, three sons, Anthony, William & John.]

Elizabeth Norah Seymour, née Brand (b.1915, daughter of Admiral Hon. Sir Hubert George Brand (1870-1955) and of his wife, née Norah Conyngham Greene), widow of John Edward Seymour (1915-1972), died at Winchester on 18 October.

Alberta Martino (daughter of Antonio Martino, Italian Minister of Defence (himself son of the late Gaetano Martino, former Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, and of Donna Alberta dei Principi Stagno d'Alcontres), and of Carol Alessandra Erickson) married Massimiliano Marcellino Medina in Rome on 6 April.

Donna Alberta Stagno dei principi d'Alcontres (daughter of the late Don Alberto Stagno, Principe d'Alcontres, Principe di Montesalso e di Palizzi, Marchese di Roccalumera e di Soreto, and of the late Nobile Ildefonsa Calapaj) died in Rome on 4 December.
[She was widow from 1967 of Dr. Gaetano Martino, former Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, and leaves two sons: Antonio, at present Italian Minister of Defence, married to Carol Alessandra Erickson; and Piero, married to Caterina dei conti Salvadego-Molin Ugoni (herself daughter of the late Count Giuseppe Salvadego Molin Ugoni and of Donna Maria
Immacolata dei principi Chigi Albani della Rovere); and a daughter, Carla,married to Baron Berthold von Stohrer.

Dominick Geoffrey Edward Browne, 4th Lord Oranmore and Browne, died on 7 August, aged 100.
[He was born on 21 Oct 1901, son of Geoffrey Henry Guthrie Browne, 3rd Lord Oranore and Browne (1861-1927) and of Lady Olwen Verena Ponsonby (1876-1927). He married 1stly in 1925 Mildred Helen Egerton (1903-1980), daughter of Hon Thomas Henry Frederick Egerton ((1876-1953), son of the 3rd Earl of Ellesmere and descended in the male line from the 1st Duke of Sutherland) and of his wife, Lady Bertha Anson (1879-1959).  They divorced in 1936. Lord Oranmore and Browne married 2ndly in 1936 Oonagh Guinness (1910-1995), daughter of Hon Arthur Ernest Guinness (1876-1949) and of his wife, Marie Clotilde Russell (d.1953, a granddaughter of Lord Arthur Lennox). They divorced in 1950. Lord Oranmore and Browne married 3rdly in 1951 Constance Vera Stevens, an actress under the name Sally Gray. He is succeeded in the title by his eldest son, Dominick Geoffrey Thomas Browne, who is 73 years old.]

Donna Michela Rocco dei principi di Torrepadula (born at Udine, Italy 18 Sep 1970, daughter of Principe Don Giulio Rocco di Torrepadula and of his second wife, Maria Bert) married civilly Dr. Enrico Ettore Mentana, on 6 July at Sant' Elpidio.
[Donna Michela Rocco was elected as "Miss Italy" in 1987; actually she is a talk-show presenter at the Italian television. Dr.Enrico Mentana is a famous Italian journalist and director of the most important tele-news of the Berlusconi's televisions. He is born at Milan on 15 Jan 1955 and has two children, Stefano and Alice.]

Donna Corinne Rocco dei Principi di Torrepadula (daughter of Guy Chambon and wife of Don Cristoforo Rocco dei Principi di Torrepadula) died at Neuilly-sur-Seine on 19 May.

[He married Colette Le Roy de Lisa de Châteaubrun in 1944, and is survived by her and their nine children.]

Comte Bertrand de Montalembert (b.1916, son of Comte Charles de Montalembert and of his wife, Countess Emilie d'Ursel (herself the daughter of Count Charles d'Ursel and of his wife, Geneviève, née Le Roux)) died on 20 March.
[He had married in 1955 Nathalie de Manneville (herself descended from the marriage of Countess Henriette d'Ursel (1782-1849) with Jean Antoine Claude Adrien Marquis de Mun (1773-1843)) and is survived by her. They had no children.]

Philippe Paelinck and his wife, née Brenda de Madre (daughter of Comte Jean de Madre and of his wife, Countess Anne d'Ursel (herself the daughter of Comte Louis d'Ursel (1886-1969) and of his wife, Geneviève Le Pelletier de Rosanbo)) had a second child and first son, Joseph, on 16 April.

Hervé Bonabes Louis Marie Claude, Marquis de Rougé, died on 13 November.
[He was born at Paris on 30 May 1929, son of Urbain, Marquis de Rougé (1882-1933) and of his wife, née Sophie de Bourbon-Busset (1887-1967), who was herself the daughter of Comte Robert de Bourbon-Busset (1848-1918) and of his wife, Countess Juliette d'Ursel (1853-1936). He married in 1971 Isabelle de Gouvello de Keriaval (daughter of Renaud Charles, Marquis de Gouvello de Keriaval, and of his wife, Princess Marie Béatrice Ghislaine de Merode). He is survived by her, their two daughters, and two grandchildren.]

Comte Alain d'Oultremont (son of Comte Didier d'Oultremont [himself the son of Comte Hervé d'Oultremont and of his wife, née Comtesse Charlotte d'Ursel] and of his wife, née Hélène de Hemptinne) and his wife, née Diane de Failly, had another child, a son, Evrard, on 27 November.

Xavier Comte de Galzain died on 7 December.
