He is survived by their three children and thirteen grandchildren. He is succeeded by his son, Franz Joseph Gobert Eduard Maria, who is married to Archduchess Maria Constanza of Austria.

wife, Marie, Freifrau von Freusburg, née Rühm, and widow of
Christian Heinrich Fürst zu Sayn-Wittgenstein- Hohenstein) died
at Schwarzenau on 13 February.
[Her parents' marriage was considered to be morganatic, though she, her sister, and one of her two brothers were accorded the title of Prince[ss] zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein. Her uncle, August Fürst zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein, died in 1948, the last of his line except for the morganatic branch. August had adopted a kinsman, Prince Christian Heinrich zu Sayn-Wittgenstein- Berleburg, who succeeded him as Fürst zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein on his death. This Christian Heinrich married in 1960, as his second wife, Princess Dagmar. Christian Heinrich had three children from his first marriage, and two from his marriage with Dagmar. Dagmar is survived by her daughter, Madeleine, and her son, Bernhart Fürst zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein, and two grandchildren.]

In 1972 she married Wilhelm Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg (b.1927, seventh and youngest child of Joseph Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg (1874-1956) and of his wife, Theresia Freiin v.Ketteler), whose first marriage, to Princess Irene von Isenburg, had been dissolved by divorce in 1970. She had no issue by her second marriage. She is survived by her husband, by three stepchildren, and (apparently, by a son, Philipp Hirzel, by her first marriage.]

He is survived by her, their two daughters, and six grandchildren.
