Earls of Scarbrough

Richard Lumley, bap 7 Apr 1589; he descended from 4^th Lord Lumley, and in 1609 he inherited Lumley Castle and other estates from his cousin, the 6^th Lord Lumley; however, because this Lord Lumley’s father had been attainted, and the title restored without the attainder being reversed, this Richard Lumley did not succeed to the old Barony; he was cr in 1628 Viscount Lumley of Waterford [I[, and d. between 15 Apr 1661 and 12 Mar 1663; he had m.1^st Mrs Frances Holland, née Shelley (bap 21 Nov 1592-bur 10 Mar 1627); he m.2^nd London 11 May 1630 Elizabeth, Lady Sandys, née Cornwallis (bur 2 Feb 1658); both children by 1^st m.
