Disclaimer: Synthesizers vary from computer to computer. Unfortunately, this means there's no guarantee that the following will sound "correct" on any other synth but mine. I also mix the sound according to my computer's settings, so I apologize for any balance issues you may experience. That being said, I'd appreciate it if you'd take the following midis with a grain or two of salt. But regardless, thank you for taking the time to listen, and please let me know what you think:

Some similarities to Teneramente, although I think there's a bit of Irish influence too. I've also been listening to a lot of "Last of the Mohicans." To put it another way, I don't know where this one came from, and it turned out a little depressing, but I like it. Hope you do too.

Here Nor There

Back at last! Actually, I have several half-finished ideas in the works right now, and this is sort of an amalgamation of a few of them. A childlike acoustic guitar-based melody that could be yet another town theme, or perhaps I'll end up adding words eventually.

Back to my roots on this one. This is much more of a video game theme, maybe a world map or something having generally to do with travelling. Pretty simplistic and predictable, really...but I think it came out okay. Oh, and the title means (I believe) "Secrets." Make of it what you will.

What's going on, you ask? Another song with lyrics? I know, something is very very wrong with me. Well, keep the lyrics in mind for this one. I wrote it more for them than for the tune, so I didn't spend as much time reconfiguring the darn thing like I did with the others. Please just try to ignore the obvious volume/balance/overall quality issues and try to concentrate more on the lyrics and general melody.

More Than the Words

Just listen. One of my few songs with lyrics, and I hate putting my words out there for everyone to delve into my psyche with (which is probably the reasoning behind this song's message in the first place). Anyway, this one really means something to me, and if it means something to you too, well...let me know.

Once Upon a Story

This one is clearly for a musical of some sort. If you've heard Aida, this is sort of like the first song. Just an introduction to the story yet to come. It has rather stupid lyrics right now, but like I said, it's for a musical, right?

The title came from the fact that it's a bunch of half-finished ideas thrown together, but I rather like it. The problem with this one is tempo--I can't control it with my program so you'll definitely hear where it rubs. That being said, it sounds to me almost like a theme for a movie trailer--trying to cram every aspect of a plot into a really short time. If it bears a resemblance to other pieces, that's for two reasons: 1) I am, in fact, one person who has composed all of these and tends to copy herself, and 2) I always kind of intended these to be strung together into one big project. I just don't know what yet. Anyway, have a listen.

Teneramente

Not actually new, but it's the first time I've had a full midi version. I wrote this for a composition class and it actually turned out much better than I'd hoped, though you can't really tell that from the midi version. Again, the percussion, particularly the cymbal and timpani, may sound weird--they're not much better on mine. This one will always sound better live...maybe one day I'll get to hear it again!

I must first caution that this one could potentially sound really bad on your synthesizer, as I used a lot of unconventional patches. That being said, I have no idea where this one came from. It just wrote itself. Which makes me suspect I stole the idea from somewhere...if so, tell me and I'll gladly give credit. It's one of my new favorites though. A little darker and more poignant than what I've been writing. The title is Latin for "I am here."

One of the only unfinished pieces I've ever finished. Formerly I would have described it as rather typical and swashbuckling, but I added some new parts. It's very dual-natured; kind of like the theme of a busy town that likes to think it's refined.

Atziluth
09/13/03
Something a little mysterious--probably another town theme. The title comes from the fact that, wherever this town is, it's the highest place both geographically and developmentally--or at least, it thinks it is.

Domaine St. Michelle

Bears a resemblance to Atziluth at some points, although it was written first. A more quiet and peaceful town theme.

More to come!

If you are particularly interested in these compositions, you may want to check out my full midi collection located here. Most of the midis there are much older and haven't been reworked with my current synth, but if you're curious as to where I started, you may want to take a look. Thanks again!
