Pokémon Red and Blue are the first versians of "Pokémon" the Game Boy game. However, in Japan where Pokemon was started, there was also a Pokemon Green versain released. As you could have guessed, each versain stars one of the starting Pokémon: Charmander: Red, Squritle: Blue, and Bulbasaur: green. I am going to tell you more about red and blue, because I don't know much about green, but if I ever get it, I'll make a seperate page. The difference between the red and blue versians is not really noticable, aside from the covers. The only main difference is a few Pokémon can be only found in one certain versian. Here's a quick list:
Blue
Vulpix
Ninetales
Meowth
Persian
Bellsprout
Weepinbell
Victrebell
Magmar
Pinsir
Sandshrew
Sandslash
Red
Mankey
Primeape
Growlithe
Arkanine
Oddish
Gloom
Vileplume
Electabuzz
Scyther
Ekans
Arbok
To get the Pokémon you need that are not in your versian, for example you have Red and you need Meowth, you must trade with a friend. Or of course, you can use a Game Shark to get Pokémon easily. To trade, you need a friend who has a Game Boy and a Pokémon game, and a Game Link Cable. Hook your two game boys together and withdraw the Pokémon from your PC that you wish to trade. Then at the Pokémon Center talk to the lady who tells you about the Cable Club. She'll hook you and your friend up the the Colleseum, where you battle, or trade center, where you trade. When you start your red or blue versian, you'll meet Professor Oak. He'll ask you your name and the name of his grandson-your rival- which he forgot. When you wake up, you try to go into the tall grass, bur Oak stops you. He takes you to his lab and lets you pick either Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Squritle. Who should you choose? Well take a look. Bulbasaur i s the easiest to handle. It's the best for a new trainer. Not to mention it has the advantage over Brock and Misty, the first to gym leaders. Bulbasaur is a grass and poion type. It learns Leech Life on level seven. Squritle is the second best choice. It has an advantage over Brock. It's fairly easy to handle, but can be really stubborn if you got it in a trade. Squritle is water type and learns Bubble on level eight. Charmander is NOT a good choice if you're new to Pokémon. Not only is it a little tougher to raise, but it has a disadvantage over both Brock and Misty. However, some say Charmander is the strongest, and being myself, I picked Chrmander as my first Pokemon when I started. Don't get me wrong, as soon as you understand Pokémon, pick Charmander. He's a very loyal Pokémon and very dependable. Charmander is fire type and once he's on level nine he can learn Ember.
Gym Leaders: There is eight Gym Leaders. Brock- who uses rock Pokemon , Misty- who uses water, Lt. Surge- who uses electricity, Erika-who uses grass, Koga-who uses posion, Sabrina- who uses psychic, Blaine- who uses fire, and lastly Giovonni who uses ground. That is the order you will most likely fight them. Once you beat a gym leader, they give you a badge. Each badge will help you, Namely, tha badges are: Brock= Boulder Badge, Misty= Cascade Badge, Lt. Surge=Storm Badge, Erika=Rainbow Badge, Koga=Soul Badge, Sabrina=Marsh Badge, Blaine= Volcano Badge, and Giovonni = Earth Badge.
In case you don't really get what Pokemon is, I can help you out a little. In red and blue, there is 150 main Pokemon , 2 glitch Pokemon ('M and Missingno - they are not supposed to exist ^_^), and 1 impossible to get unless Nintendo gave you one or you used Gameshark Pokemon (Mew). In the game, when you (you're character, "Ash") are 10, you can get a Pokemon License and go out to train Pokémon. There is two main things you can go for, or both. You can either focus on collecting all the Pokémon, or train the most powerful team in the world. In Gold/silver versians, you can even breed!
To catch a wild Pokémon, you must battle it with the Pokémon you have to weaken it. But before it faints, throw a Pokéball at it. Hopefully, the Pokémon will not break out.
Now what is a Pokéball? Pokéballs are little balls you throw at wild Pokémon. They open and turn the Pokémon into energy. If the Pokémon has enough energy, it will break out. But a Pokéball is only the standerd ball. Here's a list.
Pokéball= the first balls you can buy.
Great ball= As you travel you can buy these. They are more powerful then a Pokéball and have a better chance of catching the Pokémon.
Ultraball= Very strong. Has an extremely good chance of catching wild Pokémon.
Master ball= 100% of the time catches Pokémon. Unless you do Missigno. codes, there is only one Masterball.
Safari ball: If you go into the Safari Zone, the owners will give you thirty of these. You can only use them in the Safari Zone!!
And now, ITEMS. An item is something you can use to help you on your journey. Some are for Pokémon, some for you. A Pokémon's life is called HP(Hit points), and some items refill HP lost in battle. For example:
Potion: Cures Pokémon by 20.
Super Potion: Cures Pokémon by 40.
Hyper Potion: Cures Pokémon by 200.
Max Potion: Cures all damage.
Revive: Wakes up a fainted Pokémon.
And lastly, techniques. Pokémon can learn up to four battle moves, but you can delete them for new moves. Each attack has PP (Power points), and if your move runs out of PP, that move can't be used until your Pokémon is healed. Pokémon need to learn a variety of moves. Otherwise, your Pokémon could easily lose. Each move, just like Pokémon, has a type. Certain types are good against one other, and others are bad. So it is good to have at least two different types of moves on your team, but don't worry about it to much if you just began traning.
Good luck on your training!
