Bill's Mini-Gallery

I brought up the Biograph theatre to a group of friends in a discussion.
During my short walk from my friend's home in that neighborhood I encountered a park, and a bear.

John Dillinger, the gangster, had been to see a movie and he was gunned down outside by waiting agents of the FBI.

Dillinger got as far this alleyway before he realized the federal agants were there. He drew and started firing, and died in this alleyway.

The rest of my web page is about one of my favorite hobbies, my garden.

It is a new summer, a new season, and a new garden. The tomatoes are about a week old in the ground.

First week for the tomatoes in the ground 020601

Beans, sunflowers, and other things, got a little bit of a head start in a controlled environment. 020601

Below, summer began two three days ago, and the plants are doing better
than last year because they are getting more sun since I cut several
extraneous trees down.

The ruler appearing in the middle of these photos is a steel one with an
overall length of about 12.5 inches.

My vine, in two weeks, grew a hefty 6 feet, the length of the measuring stick in the foreground.

The beans have strated their climb. Last year's record was about 24 vine-feet from the highest bean to the root. I had to use a ladder to harvest half my crop.

Left center is one of two surviving mamouth sunflowers alleged to grow to 12 feet. It is now not quite 3 feet rtall. Of about 16 such I planted in 1993 four made it full height, and I haven't had a single success since. Perhaps this is the year. I planted a dozen and have 2 survivors.

The cabbages are starting to make heads. Yes, the white powder is insecticide.

Sting beans are being blanched and frozen every day. This sunflower head is over the top of a 10 foot tall ladder. I caged it because I want to keep the birds and squirrels away from one head, my first real success in 10 years growing a Russian Mamoth Sunflower.
