| Episode 1:
Spiral of Fate
Ayumu
is sleeping on the roof of his school when a girl is pushed off the
balcony so he immediately becomes a suspect. His sister-in-law, Madoka is
the inspector on this case and she tries to clear his name as she believes
that Ayumu didn't do it. Hiyono follows Ayumu around as the school
reporter trying to find information on the incident. When Ayumu tells her
that he didn't do it, she helps him to reveal the real culprit. While
standing on the balcony, Ayumu suddenly realizes how the girl fell and
calls Madoka. They confront Sonobe, a new teacher at the school and the
person who first ran to the fallen girl's aid. Ayumu explains that what
Sonobe did was leave a note asking her to meet him at the roof of the
school. Before that he had swapped her glasses and so when she went to the
roof and saw no one there, her first instinct was to put on her glasses
and look over the balcony. However, the glasses made her vision worse and
she grabbed onto the tampered railing and fell. Questions arise as Ayumu
and Madoka wonder what the Blade Children are, the reason Sonobe wanted to
kill this girl and how he knows about Kiyotaka, Ayumu missing brother and
Madoka's husband.

2: Seijyu - Hall of Death
A murder occurs at the
Shiranatagani household, the residence in which the girl pushed off the
balcony is from. Madoka knows that this is more than mere coincidence, and
along with her partner Wataya, goes to investigate. Meanwhile, Hiyono accidentally
hears Ayumu playing the piano beautifully, but he refuses to play when she
asks to play again. Hiyono then tells him about the murder at the
Shiratagani, and Ayumu immediately sets his mind into action.
Back at the Shiranatagani household, Madoka and Wataya gather all the
residents of the house to try and determine the suspect. The murder
occurred behind closed doors, where the victim hit her head on the side of
a chair and died, drawing a square spiral symbol on the floor to lead to
the culprit with the last of her strength. Madoka accuses the father of
the household, but discovers he is blind so he could not have committed
the crime. Ayumu steps in and says the culprit is the maid. She confesses
to the crime and when they question why she did it, she says that she
wanted to protect the family and so she killed anyone who wanted to talk
about the Blade Children as it hurt the Shiranatagani family. Ayumu and
Madoka's curiosity are further peaked.

3: The Cursed Children
The famous child prodigy pianist,
Eyes Rutherford, arrives in town for a concert. However, during a
television interview he asks that "Kiyotaka's brother" be
brought to him. Hiyono drags Ayumu to the concert and when they encounter
Eyes Rutherford he tells Ayumu to play for him. Ayumu refuses and Eyes
criticizes him and tell him how he will never be better than Kiyotaka. The
words cut deep, but Ayumu does nothing but watch Eyes walk away. Just
before the concert starts, Ayumu and Hiyono discover a bomb. Hiyono tells
a security guard to get everyone to evacuate as in order to defuse the
bomb, Ayumu has to solve the magic square puzzle (related to a turtle in
Ancient Chinese mythology). Ayumu has 30 minutes to do this and Hiyono has
confidence that he will pull it off. Ayumu takes a while to realize that it
is a magic square and narrows it down to two possible combinations. In the
last few seconds he chooses one and the bomb is deactivated. Both Ayumu
and Hiyono are relieved. Watching from another building, Eyes makes a
phone call and informs that Kiyotaka's brother manage to defuse the bomb.
He then clutches chest as he has "the curse of Blade Children".
A little later, Ayumu and Hiyono peacefully watch Eyes play the piano for
the crowd.

4: The Happiness of Those Who Believe
Ayumu
and Hiyono encounter Kousuke Asazuki, who challenges Ayumu to a little
game. But before that, he scares Ayumu a little by releasing some bees
around him. Here we learn that Ayumu is very allergic to bees and that one
sting would kill him. The fact that Kousuke knows this is attributed to
Kiyotaka. Kousuke throws down a knife with a note saying to meet him at
the specified time and location if he really wants to know what the Blade
Children are and where his brother is. When Ayumu and Hiyono arrive later,
they find Kousuke sitting at a table. Ayumu slams down the knife into the
table and asks Kousuke for information regarding Kiyotaka. Kousuke holds a
deck of cards with the jokers removed and tells Ayumu that he has to guess
which card he sets down on the table. He says that if Ayumu guesses right
he will tell them whatever they want to know. If he guesses incorrectly,
however, Kousuke will release the jar of bees he has, and the bees will go
only to Ayumu as the note he gave him earlier is saturated with a chemical
bees are attracted to. Ayumu retorts that it is near impossible to guess
and that the conditions aren't fair. Kousuke then says that he will give
Ayumu 3 guesses and then adds that Kiyotaka would have only needed one.
This makes Ayumu agitated and he says that he can guess it in one as well,
despite the protests of Hiyono. After doing some logical thinking Ayumu
guesses that the card on the table is a Joker. Kousuke asks whether he is
sure, but Ayumu is positive and flips the card to reveal...a joker. Hiyono
is very impressed but Kouske simply smirks. Ayumu then demands that
Kousuke tell them what they want to know now. However, Kousuke tricks them
into stepping into a room and locks them in, releasing the bees. Ayumu and
Hiyono manage to escape, much to the surprise of Kousuke. Ayumu had jammed
the door lock with the note. The situation ends with Kousuke not telling
them anything and Ayumu revealing to Hiyono that he wasn't as smart as his
brother at all, but rather had seen the card reflected in the blade of the
knife when Kousuke had put it down.

Ayumu
and Hiyono go to the hospital where Rio is recovering after she blew
herself up. Kousuke is there as well and the two groups play off each
other, each one outsmarting the other with every discovery. During this
confrontation, Ayumu is given a challenge. There are two cups of water and
two sachets of powder. One contains sugar, and the other a deadly drug.
Rio pours a sachet into each cup, and states that even she doesn't know
which is which. She then states that if Ayumu truly is Kiyotaka's brother,
he will dare to pick a cup to drink. Rio even offers him first choice.
Ayumu agonizes over this for a while and then accuses Rio of tricking him.
He claims that neither cup actually has any poison and both are sugar.
With that he picks up a cup and lifts it to his mouth. But upon tasting
it, he slams the cup back down as the fluid is bitter. Ayumu is shocked as
he can't believe there truly was poison in one cup. Rio and Kousuke smirk
as Rio says it is just like him to doubt his theory and only taste it
first. Rio drinks the other cup and continues to undermine Ayumu's
confidence in himself. Hiyono, however, believes that Ayumu's theory could
not be wrong. To the shock of everyone, Hiyono takes the cup Ayumu
originally had and drinks it all. Everyone watches her intensely, but to
Ayumu's amazement she is fine and states that it was only bitter cold
medicine. Rio is displeased that Hiyono saw through her, and says that
Ayumu didn't win anyway as he didn't believe in himself. Hiyono, however,
has been taping the entire conversation, including the part when Rio
confesses her crimes. Kousuke leaps for the tape, but Hiyono throws it to
Ayumu and tells him to run. After some hesitation, Ayumu flees, disgusted
with himself.

Since
Kousuke and his team are holding Hiyono hostage, Ayumu knows that he must
persevere in order to save Hiyono. But Ayumu is extremely depressed as he
feels that he simply abandoned her. He calls Madoka, who has been worrying
about him at home, and tells her he won't be home tonight. Madoka, afraid
that he will just disappear like Kiyotaka did, makes him reassure her that
he will be home soon. Ayumu spends the night thinking and feeling bad for
running out on Hiyono like he did. He finally seals the tape in an
envelope and puts it in a postbox (he's mailing it to himself). There's
also a very beautiful scene in this episode when Madoka comes to find
Ayumu and comforts him by hugging him and telling him that he is
different from his brother. ^_^

Ayumu
knows that Rio and Kousuke want the tape, so he arranges for a trade. But
this trade is complicated and full of twists, and both teams continually
outwit each other. Rio and Ayumu meet in an empty church to discuss the
conditions. All four participants are given cell phones to contact each
other to discuss tactics. However, Rio insists that Ayumu has to wear a
collar around his neck. The collar is a bomb which cannot be deactivated
without a key, which, at that moment, Kousuke was giving to Hiyono
elsewhere. Rio then says that now he will have to choose between getting
to Hiyono so he can deactivate the bomb, or getting to the tape which he
has told Rio will not reach his house until a certain time. The bomb is
set to go off at around the same time. Rio also tells him that Kousuke
will give Hiyono a little time to get away from them. Ayumu agrees to the
conditions and gives Rio his mailbox key. The game starts and both teams
move quickly.
