The Simpsons

History

The Simpsons began as a spin-off from "The Tracey Ullman Show" originally appearing on that series as a 1 minute cartoon in the year 1989. The executive producers of the series James L. Brooks and Sam Simon felt that these characters could support a half hour series so they did it not knowing it would become the longest animated series on primetime television. Unlike the traditional perfect american family cliche, The Simpsons poked fun at society's flaws instead of denying them. Perhaps this is what served as a trampoline for the Simpson's popularity. Today the Simpsons are on their 13th season and it looks like they'll be around for a few more seasons.

The Characters

Homer

Homer Simpson is the 39-year-old safety inspector at Sector 7G of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. Homer is an all time favorite character. He is clumsy, slow, bald, glutton, fat, lazy and yellow, but sometimes gives us a surprise or two. He has good fortune despite these "disadvantages" and for an avergae overweight american boasts various achievements: Gone to the moon, many awards including Outstanding Achievement in the field of excellence, local hero, Springfield Governor, among others. Homer's lost brother's name is Herbert and Homer's middle name is Jay. He is happily married to Marge Simpson, his long haired wife. You never see Homer far from donuts or berr, his two real bestfriends. Regular drinking buddies of Homer include Lenny, Carl , Moe Syslack, Barney Gumble, and Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. Dan Castelleneta does the voice of this beloved Simpson.

Marge Simpson

Marge is the wife of Homer, and is usually the voice of reason (along with Lisa) in the Simpson household. Her tall, blue hair is her most prominet feature along with a necklace of red beads. Marge's scruffy voice adds to the comical effect even more. Eventhough Homer can get Marge into tight situations sometimes, she's always behind him one hundred percent.

Bart Simpson

Bart Simpson is the ten-year-old mischevious Simpson child. Short for Bartholomew Jo-Jo Simpson, Bart is a anagram of Brat, a perfect description. His spiky hair and mischievous grin make him the bad boy of Springfield. His buddy is Milhouse Van Houten and both can be seen going about causing trouble together. His teacher is Mrs. Krabappel and his enemies are Principal Skinner, Nelson Muntz, and Sideshow Bob. Krusty is his idol, his favorite show is Itchy & Scratchy, and he is voiced by Nancy Cartwright.

Lisa Simpson

Lisa Simpson is the eight-year-old Simpson genius child. Her intelligence and integrity save the Simpsons some trouble, but they can also cause them a whole lot more! Homer and Lisa are complete opposites but even so they are very close. Lisa is the school's valedictorian and is always on the look out for self improving opportunities. Lisa is voiced by Yeardley Smith.

Maggie

Maggie Simpson is the pacifier-sucking, youngest Simpson child, with one year of age. Maggie's enemy is Gerald and she loves the TV more than either of her siblings. Despite her inability to do most things the other Simpsons can do, she is not to be underestimated since she holds many surprises in store. In one episode she is seen driving a car! in another one she manages to save Homer's life from drowning. MAggie is the most endearing of the Simpsons.

Santa's Little Helper

The dog who stole our hearts on christmas eve when he was neglected at the racetrack and was adopted by the Simpsons. He is literaly a sack of bones but has a big fat heart. LAways panting is his passtime and his breath ain't pretty either!

Snowball

The pet cat who isnt much like a snowball as the name might seem to suggest. This character doesnt have much action in the series, and is only used occasioanlly for entertainment purposes.
