Open with a bird's eyes view pan over Manhattan.

Cut to a pan around Staue Liberty then continuing to pan over Staten Island. Fade to pan up from the ground at Times Square then fade to a pan down from the sky to the Lincoln's Centre. Fade to pan around one of the local streets in New York, panning around to the NEW DAYS Centre.

Fade to inside the centre in the gym area. The centre hasn't opened yet for it's still early. Eve and James are there going through the motions of Tai Chi with their eyes closed. Natalie comes up behind them and continues to walk around them speaking in soft tones.

Natalie - Clear your mind. Think of nothing else. Feel the movements. Just feel the passion flow through your veins. Feel each moment as you breath in and out. String each moment together and feel the flow of time and rhythm of your life like an orchestra. Learn to play each body part separately. Once you understand that you can play them together all at once. In this union to can feel the power of your own mind expand and in this will you feel the stillness.

At these last moments Eve and James lower their hands breath in deeply and open their eyes. They come out of their stances.

Eve - (smiles) Thanks for this Nat.

Natalie - Anytime. I'm glad to help in anyway I can.

James - (grabs a towel) I still don't know why you want to do this. Your mental powers go far beyond anything Natalie or I know

Eve is about to answer when Natalie cuts in

Natalie - Eve doesn't know the extent of her powers. In order to tap into it she needs to re connect with herself, getting back to the bare basics of who she is in order to find the powers she possesses.

Eve - Uh . . . yeah what she said but in far less words.

Natalie - Sorry my psychic powers get away with me. You have no idea what it's like to get what something is thinking all at once in a flurry of images and words. I often feel I need to articulate it in order to understand it myself.

Eve -I might just yet. I'm greatful for any help or advice you can offer. (looking to James) From both of you. I know I have these powers but I have no idea how to connect with them.

James - Sometimes all it needs is a connection with a person, a basic calming feeling, a thought. It can be so simple.

Eve - What did you think about?

James - (shrugs)You.

Eve smiles and looks to Natalie who raises her eyes brows in amusement.

Just then a petite brown haired woman walks in the centre. Eve looks up

Eve - Sorry we're not open yet.

James turns around and laughs in surprise and happiness.

James - Carrie!!!!

Carrie - (looks to James and a huge smile breaks on her face) JIMMY!!

James runs over to Carrie's open arms. He picks her up and twirls her around. As he puts her down she pulls him in for a kiss.

Pan back over to Eve who has shocked and sad look on her face almost like she is heart broken. Natalie looks to Eve in surprise.

Fade from Eve's heart broken face to a red and fiery realm.

Pan over to where Lucifer circles around a masked figure as his demon monks speak chants in hushed tones.

Lucifer - From the ruins of an ancient time have I brought you. Trained you for the past year, refreshed your mind in my ways and you have learned well. The Messenger and her friends are at their weakest. It is time. You are now ready. Go out, choose your team, construct your army for you are my Dark Messenger.

Cut to a pan around the centre. James is still hugging Carrie and Eve is looking on with confusion and sadness and Natalie looks perplexed at the situation.

James - (letting go of Carrie turns to Eve) Eve, Natalie, I want you to meet my very best friend in the whole world. Carrie

Eve - (recovers from shock and confusion) Carrie? You've never mentioned her before.

James - (shrugs his shoulders) Never came up

Eve extends her hand to Carrie who shakes Eve's hand with enthusiasm. Carrie does the same with Natalie.

Carrie - It's really nice to meet you! I've wondered where James has been spending all his time. (turns to James) I was in town and called your Mom. She said you moved out of your old place and was living here.

James - Oh yeah. I sort of run this place now. I live in the apartment upstairs. What are you doing here?

Carrie - Like I said I was in our home town. I realised we've lost touch over the last few years. I mean you were . . . are my best friend. I just wanted to see you again. Nostalgia I guess.

James - (turns to Eve and Natalie and smiles) Carrie goes to Juliard!

Natalie - You study music! Classical guitar.

Carrie - (surprised) Yeah! How did you know?

James - (getting cautious) Oh uh . . . Natalie makes remarkable lucky guesses. After all I said Juliard so she just assumed classical music.

Natalie- Uh . . . yeah.

James - Listen where are you staying?

Eve - (cuts in) We don't exactly have the room James

Carrie - Oh that's o.k. I've got a room elsewhere but I just had to come over and see you first. We have so much to catch up on.

James - Well were opening in about a half hour but can I meet you for dinner?

Carrie - Absolutely!

Carrie and James hug again and Eve just rolls her eyes in disgust and walks away. Natalie follows.

Pan outward, to outside the window looking into the centre. The dark masked figure from Lucifer's lair cocks their head slightly taking in the situation. Then backs away from the window out of sight

Cut to Eve's apartment. She storms in and throws her towel across the room. Natalie comes in behind her.

Natalie - Jealous

Eve - (turns around) No! . . . . well kinda

Natalie - It wasn't a question.

Eve - It's just . . . . I don't know

Natalie - I do. You still have feelings for him, strong ones.

Just then James walks in

James - Hey why did you run off?

Eve - (shrugs her shoulders) I have to get ready. We are opening in half an hour.

Natalie - (feeling a bit of tension changed the subject) So Carrie doesn't believe in our sort of "stuff" huh?

James - (sighs) I'm sorry for lying and it's not that Carrie doesn't believe it's just that she doesn't know and I want to ease her into it. So please no more out loud readings

Eve - You're going to tell her?

James - I think she can handle it

Natalie - Don't be so sure. She has a lot to handle all ready.

James - So something is wrong. I knew it. Five years we don't speak and all the sudden she wants to speak to me. Something is up.

Eve - I don't believe this.

James - What?

Eve - I've known you for what . . .four years now and I just find out about her now. I thought you told me everything.

James - O.k. first of all you are the last person to lecture me about keeping things secret and second I haven't talked to her in five years!! It never seemed that important.

Eve - Your "best friend in the whole world."

James - What are you so upset about?

Eve - James . . .here I thought I knew you and then in comes this person who was such a big part of your life and apparently still is. You look so close to her and I knew nothing. I . . . I feel . . .

Eve is at a loss for words. She shakes her head and goes into her room and slams the door.

James - (looks to Natalie really confused) What's her problem?

Natalie - (rolls her eyes and walks out of the apartment muttering) Men are so stupid.

James - Hey!!

Cut to inside Eve's room. She is sitting on her bed looking out the window. There is a small knock at the door. When Eve doesn't answer James opens the door and walks in. He leans against the wall silently.

James - What's wrong?

Eve - I guess finding out about your friend just brought up some unexpected feelings.

James - About?

Eve - . . . The way you just dismissed her memory like it wasn't important, it bought up memories about my own best friend from a very long time ago.

James - Ares?

Eve - I did have a childhood you know. If you could call it that. I had a best friend . . . she was my only friend. But the way I treated her, and then what happened later . . .

*flashback*

Cut to the garden of a Roman home. On a stone platform two girls about age thirteen are sparring with staffs. One girl had long brown hair and bright blue eyes who we immediently recognize as Eve, then known as Livia, the other girl is smaller but clearly from the far East. Off to the left a tall brown haired woman, hair done up in tight curls, wrapped in a light blue toga, arms folded, looks at both the girls sparring. She narrows her eyes,scrutinizing every move the girls make.

Eve -(voiceover) A long time ago, before I became the Champion of Rome, I was under the tutelage of a woman named Alfidia. She was my guardian for most of my life. She was the one who arranged for me to have the best tutors and the best training. She was as close to a mother as I had ever known at that point although you wouldn't have been able to tell.

The young Asian girl bends low to swipe the feet out from under the young Livia with her staff. Livia flips backward over the staff. Upon landing on her feet she bends over twirling the staff over her back into her other hand. She swipes the other girl in the face with the staff, twirls around and pokes her in the stomach and as the girl is bent over, Livia jumps up and hits the girl on the back with her staff sending the girl to fall on her knees.

Alfidia - Enough!

Livia steps back and smiles triumphetly. She offers her hand to the Asian girl who accepts it and Livia pulls her to her feet. Alfidia steps up on to the platform.

Alfidia - Tao An. Very good. You predicted Livia's move and went for the feet. Predictable but an effective move! Well done

Livia - (frowns) What about me?

Alfidia - You cheated!

Livia - But . . .

Alfidia - You took unfair advantage when your opponent was bent over. And that flip was just showing off!

Livia - But you told me to take what ever advantage I could in an attack or my opponents would not give me the same courtesy I showed them in a fair fight. I . . .

Alfidia cuffs Livia before she could say another word. Livia after that keep her head bent down.

Alfidia - Don't talk back to me. You must learn to respect your elders. (looks at both dis approvingly) You're both a mess, clean up before you come to dinner.

Alfidia walks away. Livia lifts her head up, tears streaming down her face. Tao An puts a gentle hand on Livia's shoulder.

Tao An - I'm sorry Livie

Livia- (sniffs) It's not you. It's me. I can't do anything right. She's right. I ignored the rules of engagement. Any honourable fighter wouldn't have done that. I'm worthless

Tao An - Don't say that. I'm sure she's being extra hard on your because you have real potential. You're a great fighter Livia, a true warrior. You are destined for great things . . . (still sees Livia's sad face) O.k. next time . . . I'll let you win

Livia's face breaks into a smile. She takes Tao An's hand. Tao An smiles back and they skip back playfully in to the house.

Eve - (voice over) Sweet Tao An. She was so kind and good hearted. She didn't have a mean bone in her body. She always new the right thing to say to make me feel better. And of course, I didn't know it at the time, but she was right. Alfidia was being extra hard on me. She was preparing me to become the Emperor's champion.

Cut to Livia and Tao An dressed in fine Roman garments. Alfidia presents them to Augustas who walks in the Roman home. Alfidia nudges both of them and they bow before the emperor. Augustas walks over to Livia and lifts up her chin. Augustas smiles at the young Livia and gives her a small kiss just next to her lips. As he parts from her, Livia looks uncomfortable but smiles shakily and bows again. Pan up to Alfidia who is looking down at Livia almost jealous. Fade out and back in again to Livia and Tao An on the plat form, switching to scenes from Livia and Tao An's bedroom and to a long dinner table. In each instance Alfidia looks like she is yelling and chastising Livia but she goes over and pats Tao An on the head in an affectionate manner.

James - (voice over) Sounds like Alfidia was jealous of you for getting so much of the Augustus's attention

Eve - (voice over) You may be right. The more time we spent with the Emperor the more Alfidia pushed me and chastised me and tried to make me feel worthless. And with that, the more I liked Augustus's attention and the more I began to resent Tao An.

Cut to Tao An and Livia in their bedroom, getting ready for bed.

Tao An - The emperor really likes you. I heard him talking to Alfidia. He wants to increase your training.

Livia just sighs

Tao An - What's wrong?

Livia - She likes you better then me.

Tao An - Alfidia? She just feels sorry for me. After all, I lost my mother, I don't know my father and my aunt sent me away

Livia - I don't know my family. Any of them. We are so similar. Why does she like you more?

Tao An - (shrugs sadly) I don't know. Maybe it because I'm a foreigner

Livia - She gives you everything I wish I had. You don't know how lucky you are.

Fade out into the next scene where The Emperor and Alfidia are talking. Livia and Tao An are sitting silently at the side

Eve - (voice over) I didn't realise until later, from what Ares had taught me, was that Alfidia was toughening me up. To show any affection or to receive it was to be weak. Tao An was already "weak" and there was no need to toughen her her up but she was becoming a liability to me.

Alfidia - (laughs) Oh yes. Livia and Tao An are quite good friends. I was really quite surprised how well they got along, still get along actually. They are almost inseparable but for some reason they are happy

Augustus - (smiles) Well, Livia we'll have to keep Tao An with you. A companion is always good to have and since she makes you happy . . . (gets up and takes a good look at Tao An) Besides we always need experienced warriors and if she as good as you say Alfidia I just may make her my champion!

Augustus gives Tao An a small kiss on the cheek and leaves to room, leaving Livia shocked and upset.

Eve - (voice over) After that I became insanely jealous of Tao An. She was receiving the affection and praises from the only person who ever gave me any. I didn't want her to have it. I was getting fed up. As far as I was concerned then Tao An was taking everything from me. That's why I didn't stop what happened . . .

Cut to later in the evening. Torches are lit all around the dinner hall. Augustas is sitting at the head with Tao An and Livia at the side. Tao An and Augustas are conversing quite well but Livia is poking at her food silently.

Augustas - Is something wrong Livia?

Livia - Not really.

Suddenly Alfidia comes in with guards.

Alfidia - (points to Tao An) Take her!

The guards grab Tao An roughly out of her seat.

Augustas - (stands up confused and slightly outraged) Alfidia what is the meaning of this?!!!

Cut to inside Livia and Tao An's bedroom. Alfidia bursts in with Augustas, Livia and Tao An contained by the guards.

Alfidia - Give me the key

Tao An - Wait!! No! That's my personal trunk. My treasures are in there.

Alfidia - You won't give me the key?(beckons a guard with an axe)

The guard chops the lock off and opens the truck. Alfidia walks over and pulls out her jewelry and some of the Emperors things.

Augustus - Those are my personal belongings!!

Alfidia - And some of mine. There are many of her "treasures" in here. I saw her earlier today sneaking about. I went to check on her and saw her lock her trunk.

Tao An - That's not true!!

Augustas - Can you verify your whereabouts?

Tao An - I was with Livia all day!!

Everyone looks to Livia

Livia - (quietly) This is the first I've seen of her all day.

Tao An - WHAT!! No! Livia! Tell them. You've seen in my trunk! Tell them! Tell them I didn't steal anything

Livia - And she is the only one who has the key or knows where it is. It had to be her.

Augustas - (is very disappointed) Take her away!

Tao An - (struggling furiously against the guards as they drag her away) NO! NO! IT WAS NOT ME! PLEASE YOU MUST BELIEVE ME!! LIVIA! LIVIA! TELL THEM! TELL THEM IT WASN'T ME!!! NOOOOO!!!!

Livia - (raises her chin defiantly) I knew she was no good. She's just foreign filth

Eve - (voice over as Tao An is dragged away) The Emperor pardoned her though. I'm not sure why. She was lucky. She just got sent back to China. I never saw her again. I never had a chance to explain myself. I completely lost her trust that day. I said nothing, nothing to help her, nothing that would sway the Emperor's opinion for I did have the most sway with him but I just let her get dragged away.

*end flashback*

Eve - (looks over to James with tears in her eyes) And she was the only friend I ever really had . I completely betrayed her.

James - Why are you telling me this?

Eve - (shakes her head) I just wanted you to know. Just . . . honour your friends James. Don't brush them and their memory off like it's nothing. Things like that . . . they come back to haunt you.

James - When Tao An got taken away . . . How did that happen? I thought she would never do anything like that

Eve - It's not important now

James - What happened to her after that?

Eve - (stands up) It doesn't matter James. She's been dead for over two thousand years. . . . I'm giving you the day off. Go . . . spend time with your friend. Find out what's wrong and be her friend because you will realise when you will lose them how important they are in your life. Perhaps if I had kept Tao An in my life. If I hadn't let her been taken away I might have had a little more compassion in my life, a little happiness. I might have been different

James - Eve . . .

Eve - Just go!

Eve storms out of the room. Leaving James bewildered.

COMMERCIAL

Pan across a dark wall. We see the masked figure standing up against the wall. She turns her head to look in a window but we just keep panning past until we get past the wall and see James. Cut to James's back. We pan out to see him looking at a run - down motel. Pan around to face James. He looks at the motel confused but then goes up and knocks on a door. James hears rustling from inside.

Carrie - (panicked voice from inside) Just a minute!!

Suddenly Carrie swings the door open really fast and she looks at James shocked

Carrie - Jimmy!! What are you doing here?

James - I called your Mom and found out you weren't staying at home. I spent half the day trying to track you down. Can I come in?

Carrie - I really don't think . . .

James cuts her off my nudging her aside and barging into her room.

Cut to inside Carrie's Motel room. It's a dump. Not only does the bed linens look unclean and the carpet is tacky and the yellowed wall paper is peeling off the walls but there are clothes and garbage everywhere. Carrie gets really panicked and tries to change the subject.

Carrie - What are you doing here? I thought we were meeting at the centre to go for dinner.

James - I got the day off which I've spent most of looking for you. Why aren't you staying with your parents?

Carrie - (shakes her head trying to brush it off) It's not important

James - (rolls his eyes and then get angry) Is that the phrase of the day! I'm tired of people keeping things from me!!! Carrie you don't lose touch with someone for five years and suddenly realise that you need to spend more time with them! Why are you living at this flea bag motel!! What is going on? !!

Carrie - (bursts into tears) Oh Jimmy everything is such a mess!!

James takes Carrie, who is breaking down, into his arms. She cries freely.

Carrie - I didn't know what to do. You are the only person left I can turn to.

James - Carrie what happened?

Carrie - I got kicked out of Juliard

James - WHAT!

Carrie - I got into some bad stuff and before I could get out of it I got kicked out. When I got home and my parents found out they flipped on me and kicked me out. The rest of my family wants nothing to do with me and I couldn't tell your mom and . . . and . . . I have no money no friends and no where to turn . . .

James - Shh Shh Shh. You've got me. (holds Carrie away from him and looks her straight in the eye) O.k. you got into some bad stuff but do you want to change? With all your heart? (Carrie nods) That's a start. I'll help you.

Carrie - I don't know what to do.

James - Well first we have got to get you out of here and set at a real place to stay. Then we'll take a look at your problems one by one and sort them out. Eve . . .

Carrie - No, you can't tell anyone!

James - But Eve will . . .

Carrie - NO!! Do you know how hard it was for me to tell you these things. I can't stand to know what your friends think of me.

James - Eve would want to help you! And she can. She helps a lot of people and she'll know what to do. Now you're going to stay with me. Do you mind sleeping on a couch?

Carrie - Are you kidding me? Any where is better than here!

James - Then get your stuff.

Carrie smiles at James and gives him another hug before grabbing one of her bags and going into the bathroom.

From inside the bathroom Carrie sees James gathering some of her stuff together. Carrie quickly closes the door and pulls out a pack of white powder from her bag. She dips her finger in and rubs some along her teeth. She takes a slow deep breath puts the pack back in her bag and starts gathering her toiletries together before opening the door and going into the main room to get her stuff.

Cut to Eve's apartment. Morgan and Natalie are hanging around on the couch while Eve makes popcorn.

Natalie - I don't know why you didn't just tell him.

Morgan - Who? James?

Eve - Nat could you just drop it.

Morgan looks to Natalie confused

Natalie - Eve freaked out when James was showing a little too much attention to his old best friend and when James confronted her on it she told him a different story.

Eve - O.k. first of all I did not freak out and second I told him a story from my childhood about my own best friend

Morgan - Ares?

Eve - NO!!

Morgan - (rolls her eyes and sighs) Geez, so you're jealous. Big deal. The point is you totally evaded the subject. You had the perfect time to tell James you're in love with him and you want him back.

Eve - It's complicated

Morgan - How? You like him, he likes you.

Eve - He has a friend that needs him more then I do. I had a friend that needed me and I turned my back on her. I completely let the memory of her fade away to suit my selfish purposes and . . . . terrible things happened. I couldn't let James do that to his friend.

Natalie - You mean you couldn't let him do that for your own selfish purposes.

Eve - (ashamed) Yeah.

Natalie - What makes you think he would have?

Eve is about to retort when James walks in with Carrie behind him carrying in two large duffel bags.

James - O.k. Carrie you can just set your stuff in the closet and I'll get some bed linens to make up the sofa bed. Hey Eve wanna help?

James doesn't let Eve answer and grabs her by the arm and takes her into her bedroom and closes the door. Natalie and Morgan look dumbly at Carrie.

Natalie- (lifts up a bowl) Popcorn?

Cut to inside Eve's bedroom. Eve is confused while James is pulling out some sheets from Eve's closet.

James - I invited Carrie to stay here o.k. I'm setting up the couch for her.

Eve - (sarcastic)Thanks for checking with me first

James - You don't understand Eve. I spent nearly the whole day tracking her down and found her in some flea bag motel. Look I can't tell you everything but she is in a really bad way and she needs my help. And I need your help. I've never dealt with anything like this before and I'm scared Eve, not only for her but for me. I don't want to fail her.

Eve - James calm down. What's wrong?

James - Carrie is in bad shape and I want her to stay here while we get her help. She needs me. She needs you. I need you.

Eve - (nods) Whatever way I can, I'll help.

James - (sighs in relief) Listen . . . I hate to ask this but I'm taking Carrie to dinner this evening and try to get her to tell me the whole story, could you . . .

Eve - James. It's o.k. You don't have to patrol tonight. Help Carrie

James smiles and nods with sheets in his hands. He turns to walk out the door but before he goes out he looks to Eve.

James - Thanks Eve.

James walks out leaving Eve with her own thoughts.

Cut to later that night. Natalie is sitting with Eve downstairs in the centre. Craig is beside Eve loading a crossbow and checking it's aim.

Natalie - You better be careful tonight. Carrie is a loose cannon

Eve - We don't know that

Natalie - Do you know who you are talking to?

Craig - Who are we taking about?

Eve - (sighs) We were just talking about James' friend Carrie and we have nothing to worry about. James' is with her

Natalie - I know her type and if James is not careful, things will get bad. I've seen what's coming. It's vague but I don't think you can trust her

Eve - I don't think she can trust herself. That's why she needs James. I can't stand in the way.

Fade out from Eve to fade in to a restaurant. Pan along the people until we get to James and Carrie sitting at a table, eating. Carrie keeps on talking and laughing but James is looking at her pensively waiting for the conversation to turn.

James - Um . . . Carrie maybe we should . . .

Carrie - Oh and do you remember the time we . . .

James - Carrie! I thought you wanted to catch up, not walk down memory lane.

Carrie - Right ,right. Well what about your life? Eve and Morgan seem nice but Natalie is a little weird . . .

James - I was kind of hoping we could talk about your life. Carrie if I'm going to help you I need to know the whole story. What happened at Juliard?

Carrie - I told you I got involved in some stuff.

James - What kind of stuff?

Carrie - (pushes away from the table and gets up abruptly and leaves) I can't deal with this? I can't deal with you ragging on me!!

Carrie runs out of the restaurant. James is left with everyone staring at him and the bill to pay.

Cut to Outside the restaurant. Carrie runs out the doors and around the corner into and ally way. She is breathing erratically and she is shaking and panicking. She fumbles through her purse and pulls out a bag of white powder. She rubs some along her gums and breaths deeply. She closes her eyes and leans against the wall.

James - (voice) CARRIE!

Carrie turns around in surprise and fear. She is frozen in shock the white substance still in her hands. There stands James and he witnessed the whole thing.

James - (he runs over to her) Are you insane?! COCAINE!!! YOU'RE AN ADDICT!!?IS THIS WHY YOU GOT KICKED OUT?

Carrie - Jimmy please! You don't understand . . .

James in a fury grabs the bad away from her and throws it all over the sidewalk

Carrie - NOOOO!!! (starts hitting James in fury) HOW COULD YOU? HOW COULD YOU!!!? YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE! HOW COULD YOU HOW COULD YOU?!!!

Carrie and James hear a loud screeching sound behind them. Carrie stops hitting James and turns around slowly. James looks up, his eyes widening in fear. A large green scale like demon with fish like lips and gills walks out of the shadows hissing.

Carrie - Oh my God! What is that?

James - Run Carrie Run!!

Carrie and James run out of the alley way. They run through traffic and through alley ways not daring to look back. The demon follows at an alarming rate though the street filled with traffic into another alley way.

Cut to Craig, Eve, Morgan and Jeff walking through Central Park. They are walking stealthily around trees, bushes and fountains.

Craig - I'm still saying we should split up. We could cover more ground.

Jeff - Oh yeah? Well not all of us are equipped with special powers and spells. I need back up.

Craig - Well, maybe if someone hadn't let James skip out on us . . .

Eve - I didn't know we'd be going up against extraordinary demons.

Craig - I gave you the hacking codes for a reason Eve

Eve - (sarcastic)Right because I'm really good with computers

Craig - You could have asked about it before letting him go.

Morgan - Uh guys . . .

Craig - (ignoring her)There are dozens of reports about these things being able to move faster and more eloquently then the normal demons that are sighted. Like they've been trained. Demons that look like fish have been spotted walking the streets

Jeff - So . . .

Morgan - I think we've . . .

Craig - Aquatic demons can only survive out of water for a few minutes.

Morgan - Hello . . .

Jeff - Whoa well ex-cuse me. Pardon my ignorance

Eve - Will you guys cut it out!!

Morgan - HEY!!!

Jeff, Craig and Eve all look to where Morgan is pointing. Sure enough there is a girl running away with her shoes in her hands, screaming. Behind her a guy slows down as the fish demon approaches. The guy runs at it, jumps up and kicks it back with both feet but that doesn't seem to phase it much.

Eve - It's James!!

The girl who we conclude to be Carrie runs at the gang

Carrie - HELP! HELP ME!!!!

She runs into Craig's arms still screaming. He holds on to her looking at the others feeling very awkward.

Craig - Calm down! Calm down.

Craig pries Carrie off him and pushes her behind him. She is still screaming and crying.

Cut back to the demon and James. The demon jumps up trying to kick James. He is able to duck but upon landing the demon kicks James in the face. James deflects it somewhat by moving with the blow and doing about two back flips back. The demon moves in sync and jumps up again kicks James in the chest sending him flying back a few feet, right in to Eve's and Morgan's arms

James - Whoa!! These things are strong.

Eve - We know we've heard the reports.

James - Carrie! Where's Carrie?

Eve - She's fine!! Go to her keep her out of the way.

James runs over to Carrie trying to keep her calm by holding her. But she can't believe what she is seeing. She struggles against his grasp. She looks like she herself might overload and explode. Eve, Morgan, Jeff and Craig try their luck against the demon. The Aquatic demon walks toward them slowly but confidently. We soon find out why as two more demons appears. One that is slimy and yellow and the other blue with spikes coming from his shoulders.

Craig - (forms blue energy in his hands) Rictoshempra!!

The blue energy shoots forth from Craig in large quantities at the three demons. It deflects right off them.

Craig - O.k. that wasn't supposed to happen

James - (still trying to calm Carrie down) I told you they were strong.

Craig runs at the yellow demon ducking the flying roundhouse and as the demon lands Craig punches it hard causing the demon to fall back some but it's just kicks it's leg out catching Craig off guard and knocking him down.

Cut to Jeff and Morgan trying to deal with the aquatic demon. Jeff punches the demon left and right in the face but the demon is unfazed

Cut to Eve who flips over the blue demon. It follows and predicts her flip exactly because before she lands it jumps up and kicks her in the stomach. She flies back on to the ground. The demon jumps up and tries to punch her further in to the ground but Eve rolls over dodging the punch and propels her self up on to her feet. She somersaults under the demon's kick and as it turns around to face her she punches it down.

Cut back to Jeff and Morgan. Jeff sends a massive punch to the aquatic demon's right cheek with just enough force that it turns toward Morgan who gives the demon two hard jabs to the face knocking it backward.

Morgan - (shakes out her hand) Ow!

Cut back to Craig. Craig ducks under a roundhouse kick from the yellow demon. Craig punches the demon in the face and then in the stomach. The demon lifts it's hand up to try to scratch Craig but Craig whispers an incantation and his own hand becomes encased in steel to catch the demon wrist and fling it back. He tries to punch the demon again but the demon blocks the punch and tries to strike again. Craig catches it's hand and holds it kneeing the demon in the side. The demon goes down.

Craig - Aw weak spot huh?

Cut back to Jeff and Morgan still dealing with the aquatic demon. Jeff uses both his hands locked together to knock the demon down which works well for the moment.

Morgan - Enough of this.

Morgan takes out her hand held axe. She jumps up and flips over to the demon bringing her axe down and splitting it right down the middle.

Cut back to Craig dodging and blocking a kick from the yellow demon. He dodges and blocks a series from punches from the yellow demon. With his iron fist he finds an opening and punches the demon in the side. This weakens the demon enough giving Craig time to jump up and kick the demon in the head sending it flying. It lands at a far enough distance but it still is strong enough to get up and run away. Craig's hand goes back to normal and Craig falls to his knees exhausted.

Cut back to Eve who runs up the demon's front kicking it in the face as she flips upwards and back. As she flips in the air a second time she comes down and locks her legs around the demons neck. Eve leans up enough to punch the demon in the face twice and leans back and pushes the legs out from under the demon leaving the demon to fall to the ground as Eve lands up right on her feet. She throws her chakram at a tree. As the demon gets up the chakram sail back and cuts off one of it's spikes. The chakram bounces off another tree comes back and cuts off the other spike of the left shoulder. The demon screeches in pain and horror. The chakram sails back again and cuts off the demon's head. The chakram sails back to Eve who catches it gracefully. Eve grimaces as she watches the demon spout blue ooze from it's neck as it sinks to it's knees. Eve runs over to Craig, Jeff and Morgan.

Morgan - Whoa!! Those things were tough!

Eve - But not unbeatable

Craig - They're smarter than regular demon as well. One was smart enough to run off. Usually demons keep on fighting it's the whole kill or be killed rule. Not only are they able to live out of their elements and are stronger but they have smarts. We're in trouble.

Carrie -OH MY GOD!!

Carrie pushes James off. She backs away from all of them very slowly. She is still sobbing and freaking out.

Carrie - What the hell are you people?!!

As Carrie is backing away she bumps into Eve. Carrie screams as she spins around. Eve puts her arms up slowly and gently lays them on Carrie's shoulders.

Eve - Carrie, I want you to take a few deep breaths. Slowly now ,breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Carrie starts to listen what Eve is saying and follows her advice.

James - (sighs) Is there anyway to convince you this was a drug hallucination

Carrie - (looks to James violently then pushes Eve off) PSYCHO!!! (points to James) It's you!! You got me into this. You pushed me here. JUST STAY AWAY FROM ME!!!

Carrie runs off away from the group.

Eve - James!

James just shakes his head watching Carrie run off. He sighs and turns away

Eve - Wait. You're not going after her!!

James - She's a drug addict Eve. There's no point. She's self destructive. There's nothing I can do for her now

Eve - THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING YOU CAN DO!! Do you remember what I said to you? Don't you just forget her and leave her be like nothing is wrong when you can do something!!! James I could have done something for Tao An but I didn't!! I didn't!! I just let Alfidia get me riled up and followed her plan.

James - Eve what are you talking about? I thought Tao An stole that stuff.

Eve - She didn't steal anything. She could never. I did more then betray her. I set her up

*flashback*

Eve - (voiceover) Alfidia saw the way Augustas started treating Tao An and Alfidia wanted to get into the palace, she wouldn't if Tao An was to be my constant companion. And like Ares said, Alfidia wanted to keep from love and affection so I wouldn't be weak. Tao An was a threat to that so she decided to kill two birds with one stone.

Cut to Alfidia talking to the young Livia. Then switch to scenes of Alfidia and Livia stealing some of the Emperor's things and Alfidia grabbing her own things. Then of Livia finding a key under Tao An's mattress and Alfidia putting the things in Tao An's trunk and Livia distracting Tao An and taking her outside.

Eve - (voiceover)Alfidia filled my head with notions that Tao An was going to take my place. Not only in the Emperor's palace but also in his heart. She made me believe that everything I worked so hard for would be taken away unless I prevented it. So we devised a plan. Yes ! We! Together. Alfidia had me completely believing that Tao An was out to take my place. I knew Tao An had a trunk that she kept all her childhood belongings in. I saw where she kept the key. I distracted Tao An and got her away and Alfidia set it up. Alfidia and I made it look like she stole and defied the Emperor.

Cut to Tao An screaming and thrashing violently trying to get away from the Roman guards that dragged her down the corridor. Fade to the young Livia who just raises her chin defiantly not saying a thing.

*end flashback*

Morgan - Oh my God

Eve - I know I know!! I did it all to satisfy my own selfish purposes and I felt no shame. Not until a few years later. I heard that her aunt had denied her home and her own people shunned her. She got involved in . . . cults and evil magic . . . I don't know . . . but she was gaining many enemies. I wanted to find her and tell her how sorry I was but Alfidia prevented it. She reminded me that is was my fault and that Tao An would sooner kill me then look at me. The blame rested on me and Alfidia poured it on thick. I couldn't face her like that so I forced myself to forget about her.

James - But . . .

Eve - The point is I completely denied her existence, twice, and by letting Carrie go you are doing the same thing. None of this is your fault James but she doesn't know that and she will try to rationalize it like it is. And if you let her go now . . . in the state she is in, it might as well be. I made a huge mistake, my first mistake that lead to my own self destructive behaviour but it doesn't have to be that way for you and not for her!! Go James!! Go help her. Calm her down, try to explain, just don't let her go. She needs to know that she can trust you. From there you can help her!! NOW GO!!!

James nods furiously and runs off after Carrie determined to catch up with her. James runs past a dark cloaked figure, standing next to a tree. We recognize the figure from Lucifer's lair.

COMMERCIAL

Cut to Eve and the rest in the park. Craig, Jeff and Morgan look at Eve skeptically.

Eve - All right. Look those weren't your normal demons. There were qualities that were different, they shouldn't be able to fight like that. We need to find those things and figure out what they are. Especially before they hurt someone else(sees how the three are looking at her) . . . What?

Craig - You're telling James all your deep dark secrets now?

Eve - They are things that I'm starting to remember again. I'll tell anyone willing to listen.

Craig - Well that is pretty heavy stuff. It explains a lot about how you felt with Thuvan and with what happened with Alex. Why you blame yourself so often.

Eve - You don't know the half of it

Craig - But James gets that privilege?

Eve - This is not the time to discuss who I tell my past to

Morgan - Cut her some slack Craig. James just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Jeff - Um excuse me . . . Super Uber demons on the lose. Maybe we should . . . (makes stabbing motions with his hand)

Eve - Right. We should split up and . . .

Just then a fully covered masked figure steps in front of Eve blocking her way. Eve looks confused at the intrusion. The figure slowly lifts a hand up and several of the "uber" demon comes up behind the figure.

Jeff - I guess those demons aren't too far away

Everyone starts to back away slowly but the figure brings the hand down and the demons run to attack. The masked figure disappears from the scene.

Cut to James as he is running after Carrie. Carrie begins to slow as she loses her breath

James - (catches up Carrie and grabs her by the arm and turns her around) Carrie!

Carrie - LET ME GO! LET ME GO! (struggles with him but loses her breath quickly again. James lets go off her and she leans against a tree trying to catch her breath)

James - I guess that what drugs can do to you. I never used to be able to catch you

Carrie - (anger clouds her face) YOU SICK PIECE OF SH** (slaps him James looks unfazed) HOW DARE YOU JUDGE ME! HOW DARE YOU!! YOU'RE GOING TO CRITISIZE ME? AFTER RUNNING AROUND WITH THOSE FREAKS YOU CALL FRIENDS, FIGHTING MORE FREAKS! WHAT? ARE YOU IN SOME KIND OF GANG?!

James - It's not like that!! I wanted to tell you but after I helped you out. You were in no state to know what is out there, what I do. You're still not

Carrie - So what? This was a lesson? Try to freak me out enough and scare me out of my lifestyle!

James - I didn't want you to find out that way

Carrie - You're sick!!!

James - I didn't arrange this!! I wanted to help you with your problems but you freaked out on me and ran into that ambush!!

Carrie - Oh of course. Holier than thou James. So perfect!! On his little holy crusade! FIGHTING FREAKS AND HELPING DRUGGIES!! WELL I DON'T WANT YOUR HELP!

James - (grabs her by the arms) WELL YOU NEED IT!!

As Carrie tries to struggle away from James, she stops suddenly when she hears a growling.

Carrie - No No not this again.

James sees Carrie's frightened face and he turns around and sees the slimy yellow demon baring it's sharp pointy teeth. It suddenly attacks. James pushes Carrie down and out of the way. Just as it is about to launch at James, the dark masked figure, appears in a cloud of smoke in front of James. The action stuns both James and the demon. The demon looks curiously at the dark figure but the growls at it furiously and attacks the figure.

As the demon runs at the figure, the figure turns around and runs up a tree grabbing on to a branch and flipping upward so the demon runs under. The figure then flips around the branch swinging down to kick the demon right in the chest. The demon jumps up and runs at the figure again jumping up and spinning around with a kick that the figure dodges. The demon throws a series of punches that the figure evades effortlessly. The demon does a high roundhouse kick to the figure's head. They duck it slightly and spin around to elbow the demon in the back. As the demon spins around the figure jumps up high and sends a kick with both feet to the demons face. The demon flips over from the force of the kick onto it's stomach and is knocked out. The figure lands on it's feet. They walk over to the demon picks it up by the neck and snaps the neck.

Both Carrie and James are surprised. James walks over to pick Carrie up. She pushes him off.

Carrie - Is the world full of freaks?

James - This is not how I wanted you to find out?

Carrie - Leave me alone. Your kind of help I don't need!

James - (grabs hold of her) Carrie

Carrie pushes him off again. James turns toward the figure. The figure jumps up high with a spinning kick aimed at James' head. James ducks the kick, surprised but now on the defensive. James kicks his foot to the figures side but the figure blocks it. James also throws a punch that the figure blocks. The figure throws a punch at James that James leans back from just out of reach. The figure throws two more punches that James dodges. The figure then kicks out a foot aimed at James' gut. James catches the foot and flips the figure over. The figure lands on it's feet then jumps up with a hard kick right at James' head. The figure hits him so hard that he flips on to the ground and it knocked out.

The figure turns to Carrie. Carrie is frightened and looks like she is about to bolt but the figure holds up it's hands and in a smooth voice speaks

Figure - It's all right. I won't hurt you

Carrie is surprised that the figure is a woman. Carrie lets her guard down a little bit. Just as Carrie is about to listen to the figure. Eve flies out of nowhere flipping over them both and kicking the figure in the back. The figure falls to the ground in front of Carrie.

Eve - No one hurts my friends. Not even the friends of my friends

The figure gets up to fight Eve. Carrie runs off freaked out again.

Eve - Craig look after James. Morgan, Jeff, Go after her. Try to calm her down and get her some place safe.

Craig goes over to James and drags him out of harms way. Morgan and Jeff go after Carrie. The figure in a defensive stance looks at Eve.

Figure - Those demons were hybrids. They should have killed you.

Eve - You don't know me very well do you?

Eve and the figure slowly circle around one another, they both seem to analyze one another, making sure they never take their eyes off each other.

The figure is the first to launch. Eve is able to push her back with a couple simple drop kicks but the figure comes back harder spinning around with a roundhouse. Eve ducks the kick and blocks a punch but as Eve sends one of her own, the figure dodges to the side and pulls Eve's arm forward and hitting Eve's shoulder out of it's socket. Eve grunts in pain and pushes it back in and with this distraction the figure proceeds to throw Eve into a tree but Eve runs with the push running up the tree and flipping back over the figure. The figure anticipated this move but in a turn of events Eve bounces off another tree sailing right back toward the figure clasping her legs around the figure's neck and flipping her over on to her back as Eve lands on her feet. The figure however, propels herself up by her feet throwing her feet back far enough to kick Eve in the back in the process. The figure runs at Eve. Eve jumps out of the way but the figure kicks off the tree landing at Eve's feet. The figure spins both legs around to kick the feet out from under Eve but Eve is able to jump over both. Eve flips back twice and on her landing kicks the figure across the face. The figure spins around and kicks Eve in the knee. Eve is sent down on one knee. Eve anticipates the next move and puts her hands out to block the kick coming toward her face. However the legs goes over her head and the other leg comes up to clasp around her neck. The figure flips Eve over on to her back. Eve wretches her back but gets up again as the figure spins her legs around and gets back up on her feet. The figure jumps up high spinning around in what looks like a cannonball sideways then sticks her foot out kicking Eve in the head sending Eve flying back. Eve gets up in a fury and runs at the figure. The figure however flips backward really fast and on her fifth back flip throws something down that makes a huge puff of smoke go up and the figure has disappeared out of sight. Eve looks around both shocked and upset.

Cut to early the next morning. James is sitting in the apartment above the center, looking out the window at the rising sun. Eve comes up behind him and sits down next to him. She puts her arms around him and leans her head on his shoulder.

Eve - They've looked . . .they can't find her.

James - All her stuff is gone too. She's out there Eve, somewhere. She could be in danger . . . or . . . or worse.

Eve - We'll go to the police and put out a report. We'll keep looking. We'll do all we can. We'll find her. We'll help her

James - You were right. She blames me. I completely over reacted and pushed her away. I didn't know how to handle it and I completely pushed her out of my mind and preferred to forget her. Now . . . who knows what will happen to her. She could end up like your friend. Tao An

Eve - No. No. Those were different times, violent times. Everything was different. I was different. But you're not. You are still sweet and caring and Carrie can trust in you. She can change because she has you.

Eve gives James a small kiss on the temple and leaves him to ponder.

Cut to downstairs in the centre. Morgan Jeff and Craig are talking.

Craig - O.K. So these things can live out of their element, their intelligent, stronger, more eloquent fighting skills. . .

Eve - (walks in) They are called hybrid's Al least that's what . . . whoever that was called them.

Morgan - Hey! How's James.

Eve - Alive, thank you Craig for looking after him, but he is sad and afraid for Carrie.

Jeff - We can put out a police report to look for her.

Morgan - She could have left the state by now

Craig - I hate to say this but we have bigger things to worry about.

Eve - Right, like these hybrids.

Morgan - But we beat them

Craig - What if this was a test run though? Those demons may be prototypes. Who's ever making these demons can make them better.

Jeff - But who's making them?

Craig - Could be Lucifer, could be that figure, which is our second problem

Eve - What do you mean?

Craig - I saw you fight that person Eve. They anticipated your every move and knew how to counter it. She kicked your ass. Who ever this person is, they know your every move. They are your equal. And with these demons we are at a serious disadvantage.

Morgan - I don't get it. Who was that person?

Eve - I don't know. I don't understand it either.

Fade out from Eve to the dark back streets. Carrie with her duffel bag is walking along still sobbing, the masked figure steps out in front of her. Carrie jumps back.

Figure - Don't be afraid. I am here with a proposition.

Carrie - A proposition?

Figure - Yes, you hate James don't you. (Carrie nods) He hurt you and you want to get even. (Carrie nods) I can help you. I can help you achieve a certain gift, you can become better then him, you can have your revenge.

Carrie - What do I have to do?

Figure - Join with me.
