Our History in Photographs
Written by Our Grand Chronicler: Chev. Count Michael Subritzky-Kusza, GCCStS

Have you ever attended a chivalric investiture, met a prince, dined with royalty or dreamed of becoming a knight? If so these pictures are for you.

These cherished photographic scrapbook will bring back precious memories to us, of the Order of St. Stanislas, and its members in our past, those who are still members, and all our dearly departed friends:

The Way We Were:
Memories
Like the corners of my mind
Misty watercolor memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then
Or has time rewritten every line
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me - would we? could we?
Memories
May be beautiful and yet
What’s too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it is the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember
The way we were

Barbara Streisand's song tells it all.... the bitter sweet memories will remain in our hearts forever.

Few men and women seek the path of chivalry. These pictures reveal a group of people who seek to make a difference in the world. Individuals who forsake self to aid humanity through their thoughts and deeds.

This photographic gallery is dedicated to our Grand Master, Count Juliusz Nowina-Sokolnicki GCCStS

This is the coronation portrait of King Stanislas Augustus Poniatowski, Poland's last King. King Poniatowski was founder of the Order of Saint Stanislas and the Orders original Grand Master. This painting is currently in the Warsaw Royal Collection in Poland, and was painted by Marcello Bacciarelli, whose "studio" was at the Royal Castle in Warsaw (Lileyko, Jerzy. A Companion Guide to the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Warsaw: Interpress Publishers, 1980).

This is a painting, from the 18th century, of Wawel Cathedral, inside the grounds of Krakow Castle.

This Cathedral holds the mortal remains of Saint Stanislas, inside a silver casket which is raised above the altar. All Polish Kings and Queens are buried in this Holy Place. Wawel's patrons are SS Eaclaw, Saint Stanislas, and the Holy Savior. The Cracow diocese was established in the year 1000. Only small vestiges remain of the Romanesque Church built by King Boleslaw the Brave (1040-1081). King Boleslaw Smialy ("the Brave") ordered Bishop Stanislas of Krakow (1030-1079) executed for treason in 1079. His gruesome death was carried out in the church on Skalka Hill in Krakow. In 1253, Stanislas was canonized (in Krakow) and became Poland's second patron saint - next only to St. Wojciech.

Boleslaw was exiled in 1079, as a result of the rvolt of the nobles. He died in Hungary.

The tomb of Saint Stanislas, our patron saint.

A Baroque shrine housing the coffin of Saint Stanislas in Wawel Cathedral, in its center nave. This was designed by Giovanni Trevano (between 1626-1629), at the spot where Saint Florian's and Saint Stanislas's remains were interred in 1184 and 1254 respectively.
