Enterprise

Continuing the seemingly-immortal Star Trek franchise, Enterprise, like its predecessors, goes boldly where no man has gone before. Only this time that place is the past - to a time before Janeway, before Sisko, before Picard, and before Kirk. To a time when, for humans, space was unexplored territory.

Enterprise shows us how all that changed. After a Klingon and his ship crash-landed on Earth, Starfleet, preparing for the maiden voyage of their flagship starship, the Enterprise, quickly assembled a crew to take him home. The crew was led by Captain Jonathan Archer (ex-Quantum Leaper Scott Bakula) who, inspired by the work of Zephram Cochrane, and of his own father, had always dreamed of space exploration. However, his efforts to actually get the Enterprise into space had been hampered by the Vulcans and their belief that humans weren't ready to reach beyond the confines of their own solar system. Consequently, Captain Archer didn't really trust the Vulcans, and so was none-to-pleased to find himself saddled with a Vulcan sub-commander, T'Pol (Jolene Blalock). But the two soon came to an understanding of sorts and, after the success of their first mission, the Enterprise crew set off to encounter many other alien races and cultures.

As one of the most highly-anticipated genre shows in years, Enterprise still has a lot to live up to - particularly in the opinions of its built-in Trek fan-base. But with its return to the origins of the franchise, as well as a new direction for the show going into season three, it looks like being a continued success. One that, if it follows the example of its predecessors, could be on our screens for a long time to come.
