Okay, checking back into the thread got to be bit of a hassle. Im just going to post all the reviews here. It'll be easier to check back for when im done with you review. Cold Machine Rockin out from England. Nice to hear from you guys. First of all id like to list all the general things i heard so i dont have to repeat myself 3 times. In general, the guitars are a bit too flat. I dont mean they need retuning, i just think that if you use a nicer amp with a more punchier tone itll upgrade the sound quality of the song. Id also like to either hear more guitar work being done or bringing the bass out more like in "exit wound". Most of the time i cant hear the bass very well and since most of the guitar work is power chords, i think a more prominent bass section would improve the sound as well. Have you guys also thought about getting another guitar player? another guitar player would be able to put fills and licks in without having to sacrifice the rythum guitar. It would broaden your sound a bit plus giving it more of an original sound. The vocals overall were good. minor slip ups but generally on the note you wanted to be on. Youd be surprised how many bands cannot sing at all. Good work. Overall, i like your sound. Your a good band, keep up the work. Although, you may not be a band that a person would come back too time and time again. You know how hawthorne heights, fall out boy, and underoath keep getting thousands of hits, day after day? Its something about the songs that makes people come back. I dunno what it is, but i guess all of us in bands are searching for it. You said you sounded like early foo fighters. id agree on "brand new me". although, i would say that its more of the Foo Fighters get molested a bit by The Vandals "The New You". haha, it works though. Things about the song - during the early part of the buildup, watch the vocals, its kinda like a whisper singing thing and its hard to control the voice. If you guys rerecord, just make sure to comb over tha spot. The song was good overall, but i disliked the ending. i just dont see the use for it and it kinda breaks you from where you thought the song had ended. On "the president" i hear hints of blur, that "sending out an sos to the world" song, and it might just be the name, but also hints of the song "my date with the presidents daughter" from that disney movie like 5 years ago. haha. I like the weird stopping thing during the verse. i thought it might get annoying but i liked it. a suggestion for the solo - leave out all the fast back and forth picking, that gets annoying after awhile. i think a well thought out solo would work very well, its just the picking dosent say to me that you have much more skill than moving your hand back and forth in a rapid fashion... on your guitar of course. Also the lyrics confused me a bit... "get the president on the phone/tell him in not coming home/take me to the afterglow/disconnected soul". So your dad's the president and your running away from home?... pretty good song, it just didnt connect to me as much. I think i like "exit wounds" the best. It has a different sound from verse/chorus. I really liked the switch. The verse has a heavier sound but the end of the chorus sounds like weezer. I espeically like how the bass came out a bit on this song. It makes the song more unique. I also like the solo, something more like that (well thought out) would work better in the previous song. Overall, good song. I think its your best. Good job, your music dosent suck. Keep up the good work and i hope to catch you all in the states. Silent Film Great to hear from a band around the way, always up for a local band. i actually go to umbc so baltimore is like a second home to me. If you guys ever want to play a show together, were always up for a show. howd you get a show at the ottobar? great venue. i saw hawthorne heights there and they were rediculous. (if you need someone else to play at the ottobar...) and brad king? maybe a lost cousin or something? haha. (my names terry king) um.. you guys suck ass. haha, just kidding. you guys are really good. you have a great sound, great recording (paul rules, nice guy too), and an eclectic sound. Quality, quality stuff you guys. Glad i listened to you. although, i cant figure out how you got from "satellite" to "last letter". I loved last letter but im a bit biased against all the synth key stuff and the handclaps. Although, no offense to satellite though. its a really well thought out and constructed song. its just that the synth key tends to bug. check out "The ballad..." by us and the band the dresden dolls for more my taste in piano music. anyway... i dont really have any critcism for you. all the songs are thought out, well recorded, well sung (you kinda sound like the guy from the rocket summer) and the guitar is really good. im not much of a drummer but the drums sound solid. Awesome music you guys. I defintely think that "last letter" is my favorite song but "the city is my sea" is solid as well. Its like a mix of the two previous songs. If you guys are ever interested in a show, hit us up at bananafishmail@aol.com. were hosting a show in march (our spring break) and we'll proabably be looking for bands, hit us up if your interested. oh, btw, were also starting a group of bands called DCene. it'll be hosted on myspace.com and have songs from all the bands. maybe a compliation album from good bands in DC. anyway, keep up the good work you guys. great music. hope to see you around the scene.
