Time Out
by Raietta

Notes: A Mulder-n-Scully buddy fic, from the Good Ol' Days. Short. Nonsense. Just fun.

"Come out with me," he said, straightening his tie and giving her a solemn, yearning look. Mournful. Long-faced.

She shut the file and laid it flat on the desk and considered. "It's late."

"It's nine."

"I should go home and sleep."

"Like you ever get into bed before one." He smirked at her, but friendly.

"Well, okay. Movie?"

"Pizza at my place?"

"Movie," she said firmly.

"Pizza at your place," he amended.

"Mulder!"

"Okay," Mulder said. "Pizza and a movie at my place."

Raise of one slender eyebrow.

"Your place."

Tapping of a fingernail on the desk.

"Any movie you want! Chick flick!" He cast about for inspiration and mollification. "We could watch Working Girl."

Scully rolled her eyes.

"Sleepless in Seattle?"

"Oh, please," she said, disgusted and amused at once.

"Don't even pretend that you don't love that movie, Scully. You have a bootleg copy in your living room."

"A friend left it behind a while ago."

"You love weepy girl-movies. You love When Harry Met Sally."

"You just love Meg Ryan," Scully countered, flipping off the office light as they left.

"I do no such thing!" Mulder gasped, appalled.

"Mmhmm." Scully's knowing expression was perfect.

"Okay. Pretty Woman?"

"Hate that movie."

"You pretend to hate them, but you secretly love them."

"You have a copy of The Princess Bride at home," Scully said. "I've seen it."

Mulder huffed unhappily. "We know entirely too many secrets about each other."

"I'm not watching Predator again."

"I'm not watching Life is Beautiful."

Blue eyes met hazel, and a brief moment spun itself out as they stood in the elevator, waiting for the doors to close.

"No Bruce Willis."

"No Bette Midler."

"No Robin Williams."

"No Audrey Hepburn."

Brief silence.

"John Hughes?" Scully said.

Mulder's eyes widened in surprise. "I--" He stopped, then blinked. "Okay." He sounded rather shocked. Scully smiled.

They watched Sixteen Candles in Mulder's apartment, and it was good.

The End
