Godhead (or gODHEAD) has recently released their second CD (which some people
are shocked to learn, not many people knew they had a CD before this) on
Marilyn Manson's new record label, PostHuman (or POStHUMAN). The album
features two songs that were on the original album, Penetrate, and Eleanor
Rigby.. yes, that's a Beatles cover. It's no secret that Manson was involved
with the making of this CD, his name is all over it, his voice is on one
track, and his lyrics are on another, along with his bassist, Twiggy Ramirez.
I've read articles saying that Godhead is trying to be scary or is trying to
get big off of Manson's success, which isn't really the case at all. Just
thought I'd get that out. Anyway, let's start with the sound.. I also read
that they're a cross between Machine Head, and Nine Inch Nails. I see the
NiN, but don't see the Machine Head.. and I do own Machine Head music. The
sound is very alternative, a little more mellow than Manson and NiN, but I
can hear the relation between them. Most of the album, in fact, is mostly
mellow and calm. Especially the final song, I Hate Today, which is a
desperate, sad sounding guitar playing with Jason Miller singing slowly. It
does have some heavy stuff.. but not much. I originally expected this to be a
really dark CD, but it's actually pretty realistic and touching, like Tired
Old Man. The vocals are well done, Jason is a talented singer and has
different voices which he uses throughout the album, which is always good. He
can scream a chorus such as "I'll take you down, to a hole where you will
always be alone," and then sing slowly in a sad voice a line like "I want to
hold you again, in my arms, my dear old friend." I'm aware that most singers
have the ability to do this, but Jason's voice always seems a bit muffled
(not counting I Hate Today), which makes it somewhat unique. I talked about
the lyrics somewhat all ready, so I won't go into them much at all here, all
I have to say is, they're good. One great thing about this CD is the cover of
the Beatle's UK hit song (which they took from a poem) Eleanor Rigby. They
thought they would be criticized for doing this after Manson did Sweet
Dreams, and Orgy did Blue Monday. Truth is, Godhead covered and released
Eleanor Rigby long before the first Orgy CD was even available. To their
surprise, people are actually enjoying it very much, including me.

Overall | Time for the good ol' Ass-O-Meter! *drum roll*
Well the ass seems to be in a lot of pain after receiving the boot from
Godhead, but he isn't exactly dying or in need of some help.. still though,
he screamed pretty loud. 7.
Godhead is much like the bands mentioned above, but they aren't exactly
better than them. Still, they are quite enjoyable.

Did You Know?
Godhead is the first band to sign to Marilyn Manson's POStHUMAN Records label.
The band name comes from a quote by Ludwig van Beethoven, "Do not merely
practice art, but penetrate it to the very heart of it, for only art and
science elevate man to the godhead."
