The Third Trilogy

Tony's Compilation 7
Make: Made around early August, late July 2001, using my burner in
Dad's computer (Bob).

Remake: Hasn't been remade yet, but I've been considering a remake because
of CD#7's one big flaw - the last two songs got burnt the wrong way around somehow.

Description: Being the first compilation in a new trilogy, I wanted to do
something good and something a little different. I kept CD#7 waiting for a very
long time after CD#6, due to the fact I didn't have easy access to a burner, or
getting my MP3's over to a different computer. As I started buying my own computer,
I decided it was about time I made the next compilation, and my playlist looked
big enough. Unfortunately, it was just below my quota. I was really picky about
the songs this time, as I wanted to step things up again for the new trilogy.
As a result of how picky I was being with songs, this compilation had a lot of
work put into it.

Using the strengths of CD#4 and original CD#1, I decided to use more dance songs
at the beginning, this time they don't start deteriorating till the sixth song,
and even then it only wavers slightly. The story for CD#7 is in part a sequel to
CD#4, although (like any good sequel), it can stand on its own just as easily.

To date, CD#7 is my favourite, with very few flaws. I still can't believe I
somehow managed to switch Give A Little Love and Violent.

Listing:
1. Gwenyth Paltrow - Bette Davis Eyes
2. Ellie Campbell - You're No Good
3. Invertigo - Desensitized
4. Lydia Denker - Real To Me (Barcelona Mix)

What Missed Out: Although at first I didn't have enough songs, somehow
I ended up with quite a selection (about 5 spares) to pick and choose from.
Among those were Lash's Take Me Away, Foo Fighters' Generator,
a selection of Leah Haywood songs (which was where Crazy was chosen among
them), but the one song that only just missed out was The Whitlams' Blow Up
The Pokies
, which I left out because I thought it was too similar to CD#4's
Why Does It Always Rain On Me, which ended up getting old and tired after
a while.

Favourites: Ouch. umm... Dreams, One Of Us Has Changed and Real To Me.
Closely followed by... Unsung Hero and Foolish Games.

Why I Chose Them:
1. Gwyneth's second song, Bette Davis Eyes is her second song, and IMHO,
far exceeds the quality of her first. Drooby sent this to me, and I reluctantly
accepted it, but now it's been put up the scale so far it's become burnable. A
good first choice because of how it starts off and it's DDRability. The friend
points out that there's something amiss in the guy's relationship.

2. The song that everyone loves skipping past, You're No Good is a song
that craves negativity. Past that, her friend sees the relationship failing in
action.

3. I wanted the third dance song to be something that people could REALLY dance
to. The dance mix of Desensitized worked nicely here. I've heard it so
many times in so many places, and I didn't get a copy of it for a long time,
and I never found the original. The guy isn't stupid, and reacts violently but
reasonably to what she's doing.

4. I got Real To Me by total accident, when I was on Austnet's Big Brother
site where most of the MP3's from the TV show could be found, and this happened to
be one of the two songs that I really loved. It's even better when you hear the
whole thing, and fits nicely here. They've been through a fight like this before,
and they both know they can fix it or break it - and this is where she tells him
the truth - she's got problems with him, too.

5. I've been meaning to burn Everytime You Need Me for a long time, but
I was looking for just the right spot to put it. It couldn't've been placed
better as the last initial dance song on the CD. The girlfriend reassures him
that everything's fine and that if he has any problems, he knows where to go.

6. His friend is not so sure. Crazy is not completely what it sounds
like. A very DDRable song, albeit a tad slow, Leah's second song is almost
just as good as her first (that just so happened to be on CD#4). The flaws
in the relationship are scaring her to death, and she doesn't know whether
to become involved or to possibly let things die slowly.

7. I didn't like Butterfly (Come My Lady) when I first heard it, but
probably because it's a song that doesn't fall into my likable genres of music.
Luckily, it grew on me to the point where it became burnable, and it fits nicely.
The guy has chosen to remain faithful, remembering all the good times, and
knowing that it's really the only option.

8. I first saw What Took You So Long on a music clip and I had no idea
that Emma Bunton was Baby Spice. After I found out, I didn't care and it didn't
diminish my liking of the song. Breathy, cruisy and aero-dynamic, this song
reaffirms what she said in the fourth song; the results came through and the
couple obviously both got what they wanted.

9. I wanted to include another Belle Perez song on CD#7, and after not burning
any for quite so long, this decision became really difficult and I'm not really
sure I made the right choice. You Make Me Feel So Good was the result,
because it carries on her side of the message from the eight song.

10. I loved Shaggy's version of Juice Newton's Angel of the Morning when
I first heard it. Angel adds a touch of R&B to it, and changed the lyrics,
to show his side of the message from the eighth song.

11. I didn't know that Dreams was actually a remake, originally done by
Fleetwood Mac. It was also one of the Corrs' songs that I didn't like that much
for a long time, but it grew on me to become one of their best. This song starts
off completely easing into it - even the music clip emphasises that. His friend
gives him her final warning of the gamble he's taking. Interesting to note that
this part of the story came, in the second trilogy, at the sixth song.

12. One Of Us Has Changed is very comparable to We Think It's Love, and
it almost delivers the same message, with this one being notably good for the sequel.
After a bit of dreaming, it's gradually occured to the girl that this might not work
out after all - something's changed. Although it's a low profile song, this is the
climax of the compilation, and at the end of the song you can definitely see that
bring rubbed in, the final stage of seeing her true side, and even what has rubbed
off from him from their history.

13. I really did not like Foolish Games the first time I heard it, simply
because of how whiny Jewel's voice sounds in the chorus. Later I figured it
actually added to the emotion of the song, after listening to the lyrics while
shopping in Woolworths Paddington, when I went there with my parents and I was
seperated from them walking slowly down one of the aisles, when it got my
attention. In this song, the truth hurts, and this is what it's all come down to.

14. Which brings us to recovery time. Again. The couple are getting sick of coming
back to this stage, and I Don't Wanna Wait is the quick way to let out all
their problems at once as they've learned once and for all that hiding the truth
for the sake of their love just isn't working.

15. I first heard Right Here when Luke sent it to me, just thinking it was
a good song. His preference of music is rap, so I didn't expect this to be any good.
Fortunately, I thought it was really good, and later decided it was burnable.
They figure out the answer is right in front of them, not being as evasive as what
they found the first time; their coping skills have become apparent.

16. While I was listening through Tina Arena's CD, I expected quite a few good songs
on there, but I only found one. Unsung Hero, however, is an absolutely
brilliant song of hers, which reeks of pure positivity. The whole song is one
big affirmation, and that's exactly what happens as the couple's problems are
solved.

17. When you come to hear I Love You on this CD, the whole feeling of what
just happened in the rest of the songs hits you. This is the song that makes you
really love what was accomplished in the story. No explanation necessary here.
I had been meaning to burn this song for a long time too, but I needed the perfect
spot. I found it here.

18. I'm not really sure why I'm Like a Bird was such a good song when I first
heard it, and it's definitely started draining on me now, but this is the best song
to represent the aftermath of everything that just happened. The couple feels like
they're on top of the world.

19. Violent was meant to be the last song on the CD, and if I ever remake it,
this song will definitely be last. I first heard it when Jimmy downloaded it for his
own purposes, but I really liked it and thought *maybe* it was burnable. It was a good
way to end the CD, even if it wraps around to the first track. It doesn't have much
meaning to the story, unless it actually does wraparound.

20. Give a Little Love was meant to be second last. This is the song I was
looking for when I found Real To Me, and I couldn't find it ANYWHERE. Sally
ended up finding it within a few minutes after it took me several weeks to get nowhere.
Anyway, I heard this song on Big Brother and loved it, deciding I must have it. It was
probably the looks on Jemma's face that made it complete.
