Buffy the Vampire
Slayer: Tekiac
By Robert Chauncey
The
night moon was close to being full. Not quite there yet, but close enough to
provide adequate light for anyone out this late. One person out was Buffy
Summers.
She moved through the shadows following someone. It was no one inpaticular...just a vampire. A loner apparently, out for a late night snack.
Buffy
moved silently enough to be undetected by the vampire, but unfortunately even
she makes mistakes. She made one little noise, and the vampire turned. He saw
her almost immediatly and started walking toward her.
“Looks
like I’m on the main course now,” Buffy thought as she took her fighting
stance, prepared to fight the vampire.
The
vampire crouched down and then leapt toward Buffy. He tried to knock her down,
but he had misjudged his opponent. Buffy stood firm as the vampire ran into
her.
She
quickly grabbed his wrist and turned, ducking down, and flipping him over her
shoulder. He landed on the ground with a thud. He tried to get up, to make
another attack, but Buffy plunged a wooden stake into his heart.
The
vampire grunted and then his body turned to dust.
·
“Cordelia’s
party?” Buffy said pulling her English book out of her locker. “I don’t know.
Hanging out with Cordelia and her friends isn’t my exact idea of fun.”
“Hey,
Cordelia isn’t that bad,” Xander said standing next to Buffy’s locker along
with Willow.
“You
and Cordelia sure have been spending a lot of time together. Do you two have
something going on?” Buffy asked.
“No,
of course not. What made you say something like that,” Xander said a little too
quickly, but something was going on. Not that long ago, while him and Cordelia
were trapped in Buffy’s basement, hiding from a guy made of maggots, him and
Cordelia kissed. It was really weird. Even weirder than the maggot guy. One
minute they were arguing and then... then they just kissed. Then after every
thing calmed down and the bad guys had been beaten, him and Cordelia tried to
talk about what had happened, and then it happened again. Right now he didn’t
really know what was going on between him and Cordelia, so he decided to change
the subject rather quickly. “So what about you, Willow?”
“No,
I can’t. I have a...date,” Willow said holding several books in her arms.
“A
date?!” Xander said in an over-exhaggerated shocked voice. “Who?”
“Oz,”
Willow said with a slight smile.
“Oz...go
Willow,” Xander said.
“It’s
just a study date. He’s coming over and we’re going to study Calculas
together,” Willow said keeping her smile. However, what she didn’t say was that
it was the closest she had ever come to an actual date. Oz had saved her life
when an assassin attacked Buffy at school. He had pushed her out of the way of
an incoming bullet. He had been shot in the arm in the process. He had just
gotten his arm out of the sling in fact. Her smile widen as she thought of him.
“So, Buffy, have you seen Angel since...?”
“No,
and it’s starting to urk me,” Buffy said shutting her locker door closed. “I
know he said he needed time to recuperate from what Spike did to him, but I
didn’t know he meant this much time.”
“I’m
sure he’ll be back soon,” Willow said.
“I
hope so. I miss him,” Buffy said leaning her back against the lockers and
sighing. Buffy and Angel were the most mismatched couple in Sunnydale. Buffy
was the Slayer, sworn to stop the evils of the world, such as demons, witches,
and most importantly vampires. The only problem with this is that Angel was a
vampire, suffering from a gypsy’s curse. It’s a classic story. Slayer falls for
vampire. Vampire falls for slayer. Alright, maybe not so classic.
The
bell rings, signifying the beginning of the next class. Xander looks down at
his watch.
“Oh
no, I’m going to be late again,” Xander said taking off toward his class.
“Catch you gals later.”
Buffy
and Willow waved to him and then watched as Xander almost ran into someone as
he turned the corner. They looked at each other and laughed.
·
He,
if it could in fact be called a he, stood across the street. Standing in the
darkness of the shadows, he was almost invisible to human eyes.
He
had been in Sunnydale for sometime now, watching and learning. He knew to
complete his plans he would have to dispose of two problems. The city was
overrun with vampires, and without their leader, Spike, who was missing and
presumed dust, they were just like chickens with their heads cut off. They
would be easily defeated. The other problem was the Slayer. Even though she was
nothing more than a girl, she was not one to be taken lightly. She would
require finess to kill.
Then
he saw her walking down the street. She was very calm, but he knew that she was
prepared for anything, and in a minute, he would see if she was.
Three
vampires leapt from the rooftop toward her. They were ready to feed, and to
exact revenge for what Buffy did to Spike. Unfortunately for them, Buffy was
ready.
Buffy
pulled out a stake and drove it upwards at one of the vampires, driving it into
his heart. Buffy turned to the other two vampires, a male and a female, as the
other vampire fell to the ground behind her as dust.
She
sidekicked the male, driving him into the wall. The female had brains. She knew
they didn’t have a prayer, so she did the only senseable thing left to do. She
ran. Buffy didn’t have time to worry about her as the male punched her,
knocking her back slightly.
“Didn’t
your mother ever tell you not to hit girls,” Buffy said jump kicking the male,
knocking him into the wall again.
“She
also told me not to play with my food, but I’m having a blast how about you,”
the male said swinging at Buffy again.
This
time Buffy was ready for it. She ducked, and brought her knee up into the
male’s chest. “Hey, I’m the only one allowed to crack jokes,” Buffy said as she
threw him into the wall once again. She pulled another stake and drove it into
his chest. The male squirmed and then dissolved into dust.
Buffy
turned and started looking around for the female, then she heard a scream... a
woman’s scream. It was coming from the alley across the street. She took off
toward the scream, but arrived apparently too late. She saw a woman sprawled on
the ground, and then she saw a figure. It was moving quickly away, using the
shadows to mask it’s appearance. Buffy had a split second decision to make, on
whether to go after the figure or stay and try to help the woman. It wasn’t
really a decision to make, she kneeled down next to the woman, and felt for a
pulse. There wasn’t one. Buffy flipped over the body, and then her jaw dropped.
It was the female vampire that had ran, but this person wasn’t a vampire now.
Buffy
closed her eyes, thinking they were playing tricks on her. She hoped that she
would open her eyes to see another face on the dead body. She opened them, but
it was still the same face. This person was defiantly not a vampire, and she
was most defiantly dead.
·
“Now
are you sure that it was the same person,” Giles said standing over Buffy in
the school library.
“Yes,
Giles, I’m sure,” Buffy said.
“I’m
sorry. It’s just that your story is rather...well it is rather bizarre,” Giles
said. “I’m going to have to do some research on this.”
“Are
you sure we really want to know, what can not only kill a vampire, but also
make a vampire not a vampire any more,” Buffy said looking up at Giles.
“Yes,
I see your point,” Giles said shaking his head.
“His
name is Tekiac,” a voice said from behind them.
Both
Buffy and Giles turned quickly to face the newcomer.
“Who
are you?” Giles asked upon seeing a young boy, about Buffy’s age. The boy was
wearing a black trench coat, that seemed to match his black hair.
“Who
I am is not important?” The boy said with a look that made Buffy not trust him
instantly. “He will not stop until he watches the town burn to the ground, but
before he does so, he will destroy the vampires and…”
“Great
another slayer,” Buffy said.
“And
the Slayer.”
“So
if you know so much about him, how do we stop him,” Buffy said.
“It
is quite simple. You don’t,” the boy said taking a few steps toward Buffy and
Giles.
“Who
are you?” Giles asked a little more forcefully.
“Haven’t
you figured it out by now. I am Tekiac,” the boy said as his eyes flashed red.
“Great,”
Buffy said jumping to a fighting stance preparing to fight Tekiac.
“I
will enjoy killing you immensely, Slayer,” Tekiac said as he took another step
closer, coming within arm reach.
“I’m
sure you will,” Buffy said swinging at Tekiac, hoping that she could end the
fight in one blow. She was wrong.
“You
are a pathetic slayer,” Tekiac said grabbing Buffy’s arm before her fist can
reach his face. “I think it will be too easy to kill you. I think I will have a
little fun first.”
“Gee
thanks,” Buffy said trying to free herself, by sending her other fist across
his face. Her hand felt like it had hit concrete. It began to throb with pain,
and the worst thing was that it didn’t even faze Tekiac.
“Enjoy
the trip,” Tekiac said grabbing Buffy by the throat and lifting her high into
the air. Buffy struggled, but knew she couldn’t do much of anything. Tekiac
then through her across the room. She slammed into a bookshelf. The books fell
on top of her, which didn’t help matters. Buffy tried to get back to her feet,
but she could barely stay conscience. She knew that if Tekiac wanted to. He
could finish her off. “Until next time, Slayer. Until next time.”
Giles
ran over to Buffy, and then they both watch as Tekiac disappears.
·
“Giles,
that…that…that…well, what ever it was, could have taken me anytime,” Buffy said
still nursing her sore body. “So what’s the plan?”
“Plan?”
Giles said flipping through the pages of what appeared to be an ancient book.
“Yeah,
the plan,” Buffy said moving to across from Giles. “You know, that little thing
where you come up with, so we can stop the bad guy.”
“Oh,
yes, the plan,” Giles said looking up from the book. “I don’t know.”
“What
do you mean, you don’t know?” Buffy said stunned.
“I’m
saying I don’t know what to do,” Giles said taking his glasses off and rubbing
his eyes. “There isn’t a whole lot on this Tekiac character, and what there is
of him isn’t good.”
“So
tell me what the book says,” Buffy said flopping down in a seat across from
Giles.
“It
says that Tekiac has the ability to make vampires mortal, by feeding on their
immortality. That is one of his many abilities, according to the book. The book
says that about 300 years ago, Tekiac went up against the Master for supreme
control of Helmouth. The Master won. According to this, the lesser of the two
evils won out,” Giles said putting his glasses back on.
“Wait-a-minute,
I beat the Master, so how come I couldn’t beat Tekiac,” Buffy said.
“I
don’t know. Maybe Tekiac got stronger? He obviously has gotten stronger since
he fought the Master, because according to this, the Master killed him,” Giles
said.
“Sounds
like this Tekiac guy is bad news,” Xander said walking into the library being
followed by Willow.
“Good,
Xander, Willow,” Giles said turning toward them. “I could use your assistance,
in finding more information on Tekiac.”
“OK,”
Willow said moving to the table.
“You
must be desperate, if you want my help with research,” Xander said also moving
to the table.
“Now,
Xander if you will assist me in looking through the books, and Willow, will you
look for anything on the internet,” Giles said pulling out another ancient
looking book and starting to flip through it.
“Whoa,
the book that time forgot,” Xander said pulling out a book, that had about an
inch of dust settled into the cover.
“What
do you want me to do?” Buffy said leaning on the table.
“Go
home and get some rest,” Giles said looking up at Buffy. “You’re going to need
it, if what I think is coming, comes.”
“And
what do you think is coming,” Buffy said.
“Quite
possibly an impossible battle,” Giles said with a look of concern on his face.
Xander
and Willow just looked at Giles, and then they looked at Buffy who had a look
of fright on her face, and knew that Giles was not joking.
·
Buffy
didn’t go home, like she should of. She had to find Angel, just in case, she
didn’t see him again. Giles didn’t joke around. The next time she faced Tekiac,
she could very well be killed, and it scared her.
She
walked to Angel’s apartment. She hoped he was there, but she wasn’t sure. She
knocked on his door, first once, then twice. There was no answer.
“I’m
sorry, but Angel has been perminatly detained,” a voice said from behind her.
She
turned around, afraid, because she knew who it was. “If you’ve hurt him, I
swear -”
“Oh,
I’ve done more than just hurt him,” Tekiac said with an evil smirk on his face.
“No!”
Buffy screamed turning to her side and sending her foot out in a sidekick at
Tekiac chest. The kick landed square in his chest and it pushed him backwards,
but that was about it.
“Is
that the best you can do?” Tekiac said as his smirk turned into a smile. “It
was better than what Angel did though. He begged for his life, like a little
dog.”
“Lyer!”
Buffy screamed with tears in her eyes, and tried kicking him again, this time
aiming for his head.
“Do
you not learn a thing?” Tekiac said grabbing Buffy’s foot, before it reached
his face, and twisted it, driving Buffy to the ground. “I will relish in
killing you.”
“Buffy!”
A voice screamed coming down the hall.
“Angel?”
Buffy said finally freeing her foot from Tekiac.
“Let
her go,” Angel said putting his head down and rushing at Tekiac at full speed.
He crashed into him, knocking him into the wall, hard. The wall cracked
underneath the pressure of the hit.
“You
will pay for that,” Tekiac said grabbing Angel, and throwing him into the
opposite wall. Angel collapsed to the floor. It was obvious that he had still
not fully recovered from what Spike had done to him. “We will meet again Slayer,
and next time, I will kill you.”
“Guess
that means I won’t be making your Christmas list,” Buffy said, watching as
Tekiac disappears. She crawls over to Angel, who was drifting in and out of
conscienceness. “Angel, are you alright?”
“Yeah,”
Angel said trying to shake the cobwebs from his head. “Who was that?”
“His
name is Tekiac,” Buffy said flopping against the wall, next to Angel.
“That
was Tekiac,” Angel said surprised.
“You’ve
heard of him.”
“Only
the news on the street about him,” Angel said.
“We’ve
got to get to Giles,” Buffy said slowly getting to her feet.
·
“The
word on the street is that the vampires are getting out of town, because of
Tekiac,” Angel said standing in the library in front of Giles, Xander, and
Willow. Buffy was holding his hand, standing next to him. “They’re afraid of
him.”
“I’m
sorry, did you say that the vampires are leaving,” Giles said looking
dumbfounded. “Because...because they’re afraid of Tekiac.”
“So
did you find anything on the home front about Tekiac?” Buffy said.
“No,
I am completely at a lose. We have found nothing on him any where,” Giles said
closing a book shut. “With the exception of his supposed death at the hands of
the Master, there is nothing else written about him. It’s almost like he
doesn’t even exist.”
“Um...guys,”
Willow said slowly backing away from the computer she was sitting at.
“What
is it, Willow?” Buffy said walking over to the computer.
The
other three followed, and saw what had spooked Willow. On the screen, four
words were flashing. “DEATH TO THE SLAYER.”
“This
guy really doesn’t like me,” Buffy said staring at the computer screen.
“It’s
not a matter of like or dislike. It’s a matter of necessity,” a voice said from
behind them. “I need to kill you, in order to complete my goal.”
“Tekiac!”
Buffy said quickly turning around preparing to fight Tekiac once again.
“It
is time, Slayer,” Tekiac said walking slowly, calmly, toward Buffy.
“What
are you waiting for?” Buffy said running through her mind what she could do to
stop Tekiac.
“Xander,
Willow, I think it would be appropriate if you two…umm…hide,” Giles said
stepping in front of Xander and Willow, in order to protect them if Tekiac
decided to come this way.
“Hide?”
Willow said looking up at Giles.
“I
believe what Willow is trying to say, is that we’re not hiding, we’re going to
help our friend,” Xander said, looking from Giles to Willow. “Right?”
“Right,”
Willow said standing up from her seat.
“You
are all fools if you believe you can stop me,” Tekiac said as he moved quickly
toward Buffy, attempting to grab her.
“Not
this time,” Buffy said dropping to the ground, below Tekiac’s grasp, and
sending a short jab into Tekiac’s stomach.
Tekiac
looked surprised at having missed Buffy, but then felt the blow to his stomach,
and his surprise turned to anger. “You will die.” Tekiac said driving his fist
downward toward Buffy.
“Get
a new line,” Buffy said rolling out of the way of Tekiac’s attack. Tekiac’s
fist drove into the ground, causing the floor to actually crack. Buffy jumped
to her feet, and sent a sidekick to Tekiac’s head. It landed, but barely
affected Tekiac. Tekiac looked up, and smiled at Tekiac.
“Games
are over, Slayer,” Tekiac said as his eyes flashed red. He outstretched his
hand.
“Oh
boy,” Buffy said as she felt her body being lifted up and being thrown
backward. She slowly got off the floor, but before she could, she felt her body
being lifted up again, and being heaved onto a table, breaking it in the
middle.
“Leave
her alone,” Angel said diving for Tekiac, wrapping his arms around his waist,
driving Tekiac to the ground. Angel came up and punched Tekiac across his face.
A trace of black blood began to ooze from his nose.
“You
will pay for that dearly,” Tekiac said bringing his right fist across Angel’s
face. Angel flew off of Tekiac and landed on the floor near him. Tekiac stood
and wiped the blood from his nose. “Very dearly.” Tekiac stood over Angel, and
picked him up by his throat. Tekiac began to mumble some words, and suddenly
Angel began to thrive in pain.
Giles
reached for the nearest weapon he could find, a desk lamp, and ran toward
Tekiac. He raises the lamp and brings it down on the arm holding Angel. “Let
him go.”
Tekiac
turns toward Giles, unaffected by Giles blow. “You are a stupid man,” Tekiac
said as he grabs Giles by the throat with his other hand, throwing him across
the room. Giles crashes up against a bookshelf, and falls to the ground hard.
“Let
him go,” Willow said picking up one of the rather large books that Giles and
Xander had been reading earlier and throwing at Tekiac. Her aim was perfect as
it crashed against Tekiac’s head, making him break his concentration. For a
moment, Angel was a safe.
“Yeah,
let him go,” Xander said picking up another book, throwing it at Tekiac also.
It also hit Tekiac in his head.
Tekiac
shook his head, trying to ignore the pain that the books were causing. He
dropped Angel to the ground and turned his attention to Willow and Xander.
“You’re turn will come soon,” Tekiac said waving his hand.
“Ugh!”
Xander said as him and Willow were thrown back by some kind of force, driving
them into the wall, and holding them there.
“Hey,
forget about me,” Buffy said punching Tekiac. Tekiac dropped back slightly, but
Buffy capitalized on it. She jump kicked him, landing just below his chin.
Tekiac flew backwards and landed on his back, knocking the wind out of him.
“Give up yet?”
Tekiac
got to his feet. His smile was gone. “It is time to change the scenery some,”
Tekiac said waving his hand. For an instance, everything went black, but then
they were in some kind of cave.
·
“Great,”
Buffy said looking around to see that Tekiac had brought her only to the cave.
“You
truly do not know what you are dealing with do you,” Tekiac said as his smile
returned.
“Some
ugly, smelly monster that is bent on destroying life as I know it,” Buffy said.
“Did I hit it pretty close to the mark?”
Tekiac
smiled as his eyes began to glow red. He began to grow. Then Buffy looked at
his hands. They began to bulge. Suddenly, the flesh on Tekiac’s hands tore away
to reveal black, bone-like claws. Then Tekiac sheathed the rest of his flesh,
exposing his true form. His mouth was filled with sharp white teeth. His eyes
bulged from his head, as they glowed red. His body was covered with a black slime.
Tekiac smiled.
“Gross,”
Buffy said staring at Tekiac.
“You
will now die, Slayer,” Tekiac said taking a step toward Buffy.
“If
you insist,” Buffy said taking a running leap at Tekiac and kicking him in the
stomach.
Tekiac
stood, unfazed, and laughing. He brought up his right hand and swung it at
Buffy.
“Aaaggghhh...”
Buffy screamed as Tekiac’s backhand connected across her face, throwing her
into a rock wall. Buffy got quickly to her feet, and did the only thing she
could think to do. She ran down the corridor of the cave, looking for some way
out. “Come on, Buffy, think. How can you stop this thing?” Then Buffy stopped.
She wasn’t getting closer to the surface. She was getting deeper within the
cavern. She looked around. She was at the opening of a giant chasism. She
looked down. There was no bottom. It was like an endless pitt. “Yes.” She knew
how she could defeat him.
“Come
out, come out, Slayer,” Tekiac said slowly come into Buffy’s view.
Buffy
ran around the corner and prepared to hit Tekiac with everything she had, and
hopefully it would be enough to knock him off the side of the cliff. Tekiac
came around the corner. “Come out, little girl, it is time to die.”
“Hey,
don’t call me a little girl,” Buffy said leaping at Tekiac and kicking him with
all of her might. It knocked him back slightly. She brought her fist up and hit
him across the face. It hurt her hand, but she did it again and again.
Everytime it knocked him back a little further. She jump kicked him, hitting
his chin. He was almost there. She tried to punch him again.
“No
more, Slayer,” Tekiac said grabbing her wrist before her fist could reach his
face. Buffy tried swinging with her other hand, but Tekiac grabbed that one
too. “I grow tired of these games.”
“Just
one more. It’s called Kick the Can,” Buffy said bringing both of her feet up,
drawing them in and then sending them out, kicking Tekiac hard in his chest.
The blow knocked him backwards. He began to fall. He let go of Buffy, who fell
on the edge of the cliff and struggled to get a grip in the rocky wall.
“No,
this can’t be happening,” Tekiac said finally grabbing a rock that was jutting
out ouf the side of the wall.
“You
finally picked on someone you couldn’t handle,” Buffy said as she watched
Tekiac’s hand slip off the rock.
“Nooooo!!!!”
Tekiac screamed as he fell down the chasism.
Buffy
listened as the scream grew lower and lower, until eventually she couldn’t hear
it any longer. She had won.
·
“I
can’t believe you actually talked me into coming,” Buffy said looking at
Xander. People were dancing and talking all around her. Cordelia was off
somewhere, being the gracious hostess.
“No,
he’s the guy I can’t believe I talked into coming,” Xander said nodding in the
direction of the door.
Buffy
looked, and her breath stopped for a moment. Then she smiled. “Angel?”
“Hello,
Buffy,” Angel said, as a slow song came on over the DJ’s speakers. “May I have
this dance?” He extended his hand and smiled at her.
She
smiled back at him, and took his hand. “Of course.” The made there way to the
dance floor.
Cordelia
walked by Xander. “Cordelia, you look nice tonight,” Xander said looking at
Cordelia.
“What
is that suppose to me?” Cordelia said, jumping slightly.
“Nevermind,”
Xander said lowering his head.
Cordelia
hurried to greet some new comers. Xander then smiled to himself. “Who would
have thought it?”
The
full moon hung high overhead. There were no werewolves hollowing at it. No
vampires sucking peoples blood under it. No demons waiting to pounce. No
witches casting spells. Well, at least, not under this moon. Not on this night
anyway.
The End
