Burrowing owls have many different forms of self defense. Their self defense methods go from disguising their scent with dung to impersonating a rattle snake. I think the coolest method of self defense that they have is puffing out their feathers like an peacock to make them look really big to their enemies. Burrowing owls also can hoot like a rattle snake so animals do not come down their burrow. Prairie dogs keep guard around their own burrows so whenever they see any predators they bark to tell the other prairie dogs. Because burrowing owls use the same burrows as prairie dogs, when ever the burrowing owl hears prairie dogs barking they know that there is a predator coming.
