Green Day Fact vs. Fiction

On line there is a lot of false facts about Green Day. I'm sure our site has some false shit too tho. Oh well. We expose some of the most popular rumors in this NL!

Rumor #1. Doo Dah Dah was misnamed because of a misprint and was supposed to be titled Stuck With Me etc.

False! YOu won't believe how many sites list this as a fact! There is an actual recorded interview in which the band says this is absolutely false.

Rumor #2. Billie Joe Armstrong's real name is William Josephus

NO! It's really Billie Joe! It's southern!

Rumor #3. The crossed out lines in the Nimrod lyric booklet are words that were taken out of the songs.

Nopers. They just say "delete this" over and over

Rumor #4. Billie Joe's son Jakkob's middle name is Danger.

Yes! I love that! It's pretty damn sexy.

Rumor #5.Billie Joe is gay.

Of course not! Why would people write that? Okay....so maybe he does shower with Tre and thinks Mike looks good naked buy seriously.....

Rumor #6. Billie Joe used to take his clothes off at concerts.

True. And there are pictures to prove it....not that i've seen them or anything.......

Rumor #7. The band had fun betting on Japanese fighting fish while on tour.

Of course this is false! They are INDONESIAN fighting fish.

Rumor #8. The band sometimes picks girls that don't look like they can play an instrument at all to go on stage during the instrument part.

hehehehe--this is true...

GREEN DAY QUOTE OF THE DAY: "After 30 minutes watching TV you belive you're on drugs. They're perfect in trying to turn you into nothing more than mindless consumers. For example there is a melancholic movie on, and right after they send advertising for mood elevators and the people will but it because we are so conditioned to consume! "-Billie Joe

GREEN DAY DID U KNOW OF THE DAY: While Billie Joe was in school, his nickname was "Two Dollar Bill"--why? Cuz he sold joints for two bucks--as always NO DRUG STUFF

GD Tearjerkers-by LO (with some pointless shit added by MN)

Now we all know that as one of the biggest known punk bands ever it is not in the profile for Green Day to do tearjerkers, aka: songs that make u cry [or make u come really really close so that u r just sitting there attempting to make it look like your eyes are watering because your cutting onions or something]. But truth be told GD does some great tearjerkers, 'wake me up when september ends' being among the top on the list. This song is about loss, love, and heartbreak, and it does it so beautifully becuz it comes from the heart--as only a true tearjerker song can. Why aren't there more Green Day tearjerker songs? Most of their songs cannot be considered as tearjerkers because despite the heartbreaking lyrics, the upbeat tempo and cheerful chorus just makes you want to smile and sing along. However, thier song 'Extraordinary Girl' is definitely a song that makes you stop and frown. It's just so magical and rythmic. Also, despite the rather encouraging lyrics, 'time of your life [good riddance]' holds many memories for people and can therefore be seen as a tearjerker. It makes you want to take time back. It connects to people's lives, how they've grown, and changed. Another tearjerker that I luv is 'Whatsername'. It makes me sad. It's about the end of a relationshp, the end of a memory, and yet, it's also touching that after all this time, some memories never fade. Another song with a simmilar theme is 'Scattered'. The difference in 'Scattered' is that there is still time to repair old wounds and make memories afresh. Of course, how could we discuss tearjerkers without going into 'Macy's Day Parade', it's an upsetting and depressing song that makes you look back on our socciety and ask "what has become of the care-free life, I thought I lived? Why do material posessions matter so much?" Green Day is not just another "angst against society band". Green Day seems to actually have a sensitive side.

American Idiot--The Movie

I know what you are thinking. "Silly Care!" American Idiot is an album not a movie!" But by thinking this you are wrong. You are very, very, wrong (except for the part about me being silly, that's true). It has been verified that Green Day's punk-rock opera concept album will be made into a full length motion picture based off of the album! The movie is set to start filming next year and will be created with cooperation of the band. The film is supposed to fill in the holes left out by the album.

While no actors and actresses names have been released, Tre said "Yeah, um, Lucy Liu is going to play me. Cameron Diaz is going to play Mike. And Brad Pitt is going to play Billie Joe. We’re pushing the gender card here." But he was kidding, at least let's hope so.

Billie Joe remains "tight lipped" about whether or not the band will star in the movie, but according to Tre in a different article, the band has no plans of starring in the movie and will probably only make cameos.

My personal view on the movie is that they should probably not star in it. I hate to be a hater, but seriously, there is a big difference between singing and acting and the roles played would have to be younger. Plus--the number of times Billie Joe would say "ya know" would be a pain for a director.

My personal favorite pick for the character of Whatsername is definitely Eva Amurri. I luv Eva! I respect and admire her talent. She can play a bad-ass character, but also, honest, soft character's and I think that Whatsername needs to have these traits because she is the only one that really stayed true to herself".

In case you didn't know: Eva Amurri is my favorite actress in my favorite movie--Saved! She plays the jewish one with the short black hair and the kick-ass atttitude. She is also Susan Sarandon's daughter.

Of course, Care, my favoritist actrtess ever, would be really good for this part too--hint, hint! If you read this, give me a call, casting directors!

Or maybe Eva and some younger actors etc. could be the younger characters and Billie, Tre, Mike, and Adrienne could be the adult characters at the very end, when they are all grown up!

The band also shot down the idea of a musical. YAY! Thank gosh!

Green Day and drugs and drinks:--NO DRUG COMMENTS as usual

Green Day admits to doing drugs, hell! That's why the band is called Green Day! A Green Day is a day of hanging around and doing pot--it's east bay slang. There is a song about it too on 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours.
If you listen to earlier interviews they even talk about it a lot! The band admits to doing speed and cocaine a lot in their earlir years and were very pro-pot etc. However now that they have families, they have reduced their use of the durgs.
The life-style that they were living was getting out of hand however. Billie Joe even got a DUI in 2003(don't worry it was all fine, and he was very nice about it). Billie Joe has even stated that he is giving up drugs and alchohol to save his marriage to Adrienne Nesser after the strain that was put on it during the making of American Idiot.

"I'm a father now. I have a certain responsibility. It isn't just my life anymore. I don't want my kid finding bottles in the house or seeing his father completely smashed. I don't want him to get the impression that his father is a drunk, a bum. Having children is a big responsibility and I don't want to make a mess out of it. I don't want my son thinking that I care more for booze than I care for him. If you have children, you don't want to have drugs and drinks in the house. You know they might reach it. It's just not good."

"LA is full of people crashing and burning. That could be me. I'm fascinated and horrified by that.

"Speed and cocaine don't suit me in great quantities."

"I get out of control in a funny way - like playing sax in the nude on the rooftop of my hotel. Or in a bad way - drink and drugs."

"I have been impossible to live with during the making of AMERICAN IDIOT and the thing I'm most proud of is that my marriage is survived."

"There are temptations in this lifestyle and I have survived them all." --says Billie Joe

GREEN DAY QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I am no longer married, so ladies... there you go. "-Tre

GREEN DAY DID U KNOW OF THE DAY: Mike punched his kindergarten teacher becuz he was frustrated
GREEN DAY SITE OF THE DAY: http://zerogreat.50webs.com/frames.htmlWhy no newsletter yesterday? Blame it on LO. and my lazy ass.

Today's article will be all about one song. That song is "Your Favorite Son"
Your favorite son is a song specially made for Rock Against Bush, but you can also get it at various sites on the internet. This song is full of pulsating beats and chords. It is just one of those songs that gets caught in your head becuz its soooooo good. I will be analyzing the lyrics below--becuz im badass like that.
Green Day - Favorite Son Lyrics
He hit the ground running,
At the speed of light.
The star was brightly shining,
Like a neon light.--self explanatory, Bush succceded and acchieved a lot in a short period of time

It's your favorite son.
It's your favorite son.--adressed to Bush senior

A fixture on the talkshows,
To the silver screen.--go Michael Moore!
From here to Colorado,
He's a sex machine.--there is a rumor that Bush had an affair and asked for an abortion

It's your favorite son.
It's your favorite son.

But isn't it a drag?
Isn't it a drag?
Isn't it a drag?
It's pretty bloody sad,
but isn't it a drag?--who wouldn't consider it a drag to be related to bush?

A clean-cut All-American,
Really ain't so clean.--just cuz he went to harvard and is supposed to be the "all american", it doesn't mean he is
His royal auditorium,
Is a murder scene.--hello? Do you know how many people Bush has killed overseas?

It's your favorite son.
It's your favorite son.
Oh, isn't it a drag?
Isn't it a drag?
Isn't it a drag?
It's pretty bloody sad,
but isn't it a drag?

[Bridge]

Well no one says it's fair.
Turn a teenage lush,--teen alcoholic and partier
To a millionaire.--who got rich off of oil, and the saudi's

Now where's your f**kin' champion?
On a bed you laid.
He's not the All-American,
That you thought you paid.--Bush Sr. obviously realizes that Bush is a screw up.

It's your favorite son.
It's your favorite son.
But isn't it a drag?

Do you like Bush? Are you upset by this article?
Yes?
Well shove it.

Hey yalls. Today's article is to all those haters!!! While researching for today's issue I came across this sick fucker's site. As I read it, my blood began to boil and I became so--well, let's just say, irritated--that I thought. "Hey , let's just tell everyone on the site, what an ass he is."
And so it is with my sincerest err "grattitude" that I thank GDsucks@yahoo.com for this opportunity.
The site, which is vey crappily put together, is all about how much the person hates Green Day. The person doesn't even own a CD and he talks about all these stupid reasons why he thinks they suck. That is shitty! You can't dish about how much you hear a band, without even listening to them! I wrote him this.

"ur a sick, sick person. With way too much time on their hands to deal with why they hate a certain band--what's worse, you dont even know anything about them. For one thing you mispelled Billie-Joe's name. For antother thing, I bet you haven't even listened to the muscic. You haven't even bought one of their albums. How can you say all this bull shit about how much you hate a band, when you haven't even taken the time to hear their music? That is a shitty, shitty, thing to do. And the music they play is punk. But I guess you wouuldn't know that becuzyou don't really know what punk-rock is. Punk Rock is all about being yourself and not caring what people think. So you know what? I don't give a shit what you think becuz Green Day helps define punk.
I just thought u should know what a scum-bag u are.
PS: U suck at web-design.
If u think im an ass now, thats okay. Why don't you check out our web-site?
angelfire.com/punk5/cuteandpunky/
We'll make sure to put in a nice little blurb about your site."
--i sent this from john smith's account

And so i made this blurb and urge all of you to go check out their crappy site and e-mail them what you think.
Their site is at http://www.geocities.com/gdaysucks/GreenDaySucks.htmlBelow I have made it easy for you to complain to them!

Spread the GREEN DAY LOVE--NOW!

What is your name?

What do you want to say to the hater?

There is another sick page at http://home1.swipnet.se/~w-11931/gd.htm.
These people suck and have nothing better to do with their life than to concentrate it on hate and direct it at a band they know hardly anything about. I'm sorry, I'm just way too pissed right now, to write anything more.
I just feel like tearing those sicko-s heads off.
The good news? These sites have not been updated in a long time, so these idiots have probably:
A.found lives
B.been to scared and too depressed that nobody reads them to update their pages.

Hey yalls. I just got off the phone with Barbie, which was weird, becuz he never calls. I also discovered that since I updated a lot of the pages on the site, they aren't going to be listed on google for a while--my bad, but hey, if I hadn't updated them, you wouldn't have the cool cursor. And im sorry that i was a lazy ass on saturday and didn't make a newsletter.

Today I will continue my article on Billie Joe. Do you remember the first article? Well, you should.
I'm not going to remind you. But it was on--june 24th.
Okay, so after that, Billie Joe devoted a lot of his time to music and organized his own lil band with his buds. One of them was Mike. Mike and BJ met for the first time in the lunch room in 5th grade and were inseperable after that. Billie Joe's first song was "why do you want him", which was about his mother and his step-father and after that he began writing lots and lots of songs, some of which you can hear on 1039 record. Then, BJ and Mike formed Sweet Children(Im not going to go in to particulars here, cuz its in a lot of articles already) Billie Joe never did like school that much and would rather be devoting more of his time to music. So a day before his 18th birthday, he dropped out of highschool.
The band started getting gigs in the punk-rock scene, and they even got a record deal!....to be continued in part 3

POLITICALLY INCORRECT?--by LO

In present day society Green Day is thought of as the rebel band, the anarchists, but has this always been their goal image? Take a look back at some of their beginning albums, like 1039/smoothed out slappy hours, and notice how focused they are on anything but politics. Not that i mind the Bush bashing but it has been said in various interviews [provided in previous newsletters by the one and only Carol] that the current politic binge was set up by the record companies as a publicity plot and is not the actual choices of the band members. And if it's publicity they wanted, they got it. Look around you! Look at how many thousands of people can be seen with Green Day shirts on their backs. How many of these people do you know to be actively republican? It's definitely something to think about. But when it comes down to it all know this, whether they're singing about politics or getting high they still rock.

GREEN DAY: PUNK OR PREP?
by LO

All across the 'alien nation' Green Day is known as one of the most famous punk bands ever to walk the face of the earth. But ask any hard core GD fan and they will tell you that Green Day has gone soft. If you compare they're latest album 'American Idiot' to some of their older stuff such as 'Warning' or 'Nimrod' you will definitely see a difference. 'American Idiot' has caused quite alot of controversy over whether or not Green Day has turned to 'the dark side'. Mostly because it is a genius album and loved by many, including a high number of preps who have suddenly decided to jump on the bandwagon. And by 'jumping on' i mean going all out. Green Day merchandise can be seen worn, drank out of, or plastered on the wall by any once pink princess [prep]. It's times like these when you have to stop and ask yourself; is GD going prep? For those of you who can't bear the thought and are twitching in pain right now know that individuality is a punk virtue and Billie, Mike, and Tre would want you to make up your own mind about them.

GREEN DAY QUOTE OF THE DAY: "There's nothing wrong with being a loser, it just depends on how good you are at it."-BJ

GREEN DAY DID U KNOW OF THE DAY: You guys prolly already know this but the original master tapes for their latest record were stolen. The album contained 20 tracks and to those who heard it was very good. The record was supposed to be a follow-up to Warning. However, rather than re-do theses tracks, the band decided to start from scratch--thus creating American Idiot.

GREEN DAY SITE OF THE DAY:http://citypages.com/databank/21/1037/article9078.asp

First a shout out to Diana, who went to the site and voted to the polls and signed the guest book.

Grrrrr... Last night at 12:30 there was a live concert of MCR on MTV and a re-run of Storytellers:Green Day--both of which I tried to tape---but I was pissed to discover that our VCR didn't record anything--after I spent over half an hour trying to set it up--sorry guys.

I thought that today would be a great time to discuss creative writings and songs because of Green Day. I know my friend--Siders wrote a sonnet about BJ, but there are many, many others who feel compelled to pick up the pen cuz of Green Day. I actually wrote a sonnet about the concert--and ya know what? My teacher actually liked it.

Concert at Night

by: MN

A thick vast sea of twinkling lights of blue
And flaming yellows shine through the hazed night
Pulse of the music stirs as if on cue
Waves of victims drowning in rich delight
Strange magic notes so sure and boldly dark
It controls my every thought and vain
Defining moments like these have no mark
It seeps exposing deep wounds and old pains
Close my eyes and feel deep eerie bass
Sink deep into lulling beats and odd notes
Discovering that I have lost my face
While delicious screams exit from my throat
Forbidden lyrics dance on tongue and heart?
I feel so free but the music must depart

Gerard of My Chemical Romance says that Billie Joe influenced him to play the guitar. They even thank Green Day first at the end of the "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" video. And many music lovers agree that Green Day's "Dookie" set the stage for the punk music of today--the good music--no the crap. Green Day is also thanked by tons of bands--check out the list at
http://www.greendayauthority.com/TheBand/didjaknow.shtml.

The most bizarre thing that Green Day influenced, that I can come up with is the song "I Wanna Be Billie Joe", by some British guy.

http://www.lookoutrecords.com/store/index.php?cPath=22_25_26&sort=2a&page=2

I think we should have a creative writing contest at our site relating to Green Day-wuddya think?
Oh yeah-I added some new animated cursors to the site! One with over 30 flashing pics of the band, one with just their eyes, and another with just one pic of each band member--they are kickass.
