"Dear Jill and Gordon,
I've gone out shopping tonight and I will be out for some time. I am also visiting Mr. Augustus in the hospital. They say he's not doing well. I know, he is our neighbor and you are just as close to him as I am, but your studies are much too important for me to pull you out of school to see Mr. Augustus, he's not going anywhere. We shall visit him again this weekend. As for the time being, don't go outside. In fact, lock the doors, close the windows, and do not answer the phone, no matter the Caller ID. Stay in the living room, please, and do not go about the house alone. This may sound bizarre, but please do as I warn you to.
This was suprising to Jill and Gordon, and made them quite suspicious of their Father. However, they listened to his orders.
Being twins, they had their arguements, but they healed quickly. The 17 year old twins were in their 11th year in school, and were working hard at part-time jobs to get into a good college with the money they earned, taking some aside for buying things of their guilty pleasure. They both were brown-eyed brunettes, originally, but Jill had dyed her hair many times since she turned 13 four years back. She was on blonde at this point in time.
The twins watched the television quietly while finishing up the rest of their homework. It flickered for a moment, then turned off, as well as their lights, followed shortly by a bolt of lightning and a crackle of nearby thunder. Jill jumped. The power flickered back on.
"Odd.." Gordon mumbled, as he finished the last question of his math.
Just that moment, the phone rang. Jill ran to look at the Caller ID, forgetting it's rule. It was the number of their father, so she answered it. All of the power shut off again, but there was no thunder this time.
"GORDON! Gordon...? Gordon?!" Jill yelled. No one answered.
Jill ran around the corner and down the hall. A light was glowing from one of the rooms. Jill ran in to find Gordon with a flashlight.
"Calm down." He said. He shined the flashlight around the room. They were in the library. A book fell off the shelf, with a cover that particularly interested the twins. It was plated with jewels, but the title was dusty. They opened the book to the sound of people talking. It shocked them both. It seemed to come from the other room. They went to check it out, taking the flashlight.
