The
story of the band (so far)...
One
of the worst things to ever affect the music world is the
supposed need for labels. The need to name the sound of a
band was never a true need, but a belief far to many
people hold true. What's a label but confinement in a
phrase, or even worse, in a word? Single Alliance is just
that, an alliance to ourselves to write the best music we
can with no boundaries but our own creative and spiritual
limitations. It is this ongoing journey through our
individual musical backgrounds and influences with that of
our own styles that create a blend of such diverse sounds,
that to try to label the result can not do it justice. So,
to know the sound is to know the band.
Single
Alliance's deepest roots go back to three high school kids
who wanted to play cover songs and have fun doing it.
Chris, Eric, and Andy Rowe first started playing music in
the winter of 1999. It was the first time either Eric or
Andy had picked up a stringed instrument. By the spring, they knew that playing
as a band would no longer sustain them as a hobby. By that
coming fall, Ray was recruited for his vocals, and Dave
Freeman to hold down bass. What soon followed a couple
months of closed door practices, Pizza feasts, and random
acts of idiocy, were several
public appearances, among which were being the house band
for the 2002 senior variety show and a few concerts at
URI.
At
the same time however, the band began to split in the
direction that it was heading. As some members pushed
forward as hard as they could, others lacked the serious
commitment that the others possessed. Weekly Friday
practices became monthly, until it became painfully
obvious a change was in order. This led to the replacement
of Andy and Dave with Tim Thomson and Steve Humphrey. The
two new members have recently added the fervor that had
been lacking prior, and has since jumpstarted the band.
With a better attitude and a refocused direction, SA has
never looked so promising and housed so much potential.
The young band has overcome early dissension and obstacles
to begin on a path with much promise. Only time will tell
where their path may lead...
